18 Minutes of One Piece Odyssey Gameplay Debuted at Anime Expo 2022

Shaping up nicely

18 minutes of new One Piece Odyssey gameplay was shown off during an Anime Expo 2022 live stream, and the upcoming JRPG is looking strong.

In the video, Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hat Crew are exploring a mysterious island, engaging in turn-based combat and some light traversal. The gameplay and even art style are very reminiscent of Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age, with its snappy battles and colourful cast of characters.

One Piece fans have been eating well of late, as we just got our first real look at combat in last week's dev diary.

While we don't have a confirmed release date just yet, One Piece Odyssey is slated to launch on PS5 and PS4 in 2022

Ngl, the over world exploration looks like DQ11 but so much more janky and unpolished. All of his actions from walking to jumping to smashing pots and grabbing the item just look wrong

Still hyped for this cause it's a turn based one piece game. The combat looks super fun so I'm really hoping they pull off a good game with this. Maybe it'll play better than it looks

I don't know anything about One Piece, but this honestly looks like it could potentially be pretty decent. The animations definitely are weird tho - really not digging the jump in particular.

That said, it's a turn-based JRPG, so they have my curiosity. I hope they release a demo because, while this game may look similar to Ni No Kuni and Dragon Quest XI, it really lacks their polish; I'll need to try before I buy on this one.

Looks like it could be decent game. I do wish it was a game where you built your own crew of nakama in the one piece world and made a name for yourself and where you eventually meet Luffy and unite to take on an enemy crew to save your childhood country or something.

Ok this is shaping up nicely indeed. Very similar to DQ 11 which is good for me. I too am not a One Piece fan but hopefully the story is still engaging enough for a non-fan to enjoy. Just waiting on that release date!

I’ve only ever read though the first two Arcs of the original Manga and some of third. My main thought of this game is how much do you need to know about One Piece to get what happens here, especially since the story has been plowing along for years.
