Each year in the middle of summer, Japanese publisher and developer Nippon Ichi Software (NIS for short) sends out a greetings card that typically teases an upcoming title. As posted on Twitter by @boneta_hone, 2022's card features what looks like some kind of demon (or perhaps deity-like figure) holding a sword while standing on a rooftop. A building that resembles a traditional Japanese castle is in the background, along with two less defined characters.
It's definitely got that NIS art style to it, but what game could it be teasing? As you'd expect, a lot of fans have immediately jumped on the possibility that it could be Disgaea 7. However, the last game in the strategy RPG series, Disgaea 6, is less than two years old — it first launched in January 2021. You could argue that the timing isn't quite right.
A new IP, perhaps? It's certainly far from impossible, given NIS' creative output over the years. We'll just have to wait and see!
What do you think this teaser is for? Would you welcome a new Disgaea, or do you want something new? Don't call upon your underworld army just yet in the comments section below.

If its Disgaea 7 I wonder if the western Release will be Switch only again lol...the NIS CEO is not on good terms with Sony anymore
Soul Nomad? Nah they wouldn't....
@UltimateOtaku91 Or would they...
@UltimateOtaku91 Artstyle and Char Design doesnt look like Soul Nomad
@IonMagi yeah but it was a playstation 2 game, surely art style would change to something more modern like other newer remakes
The next guided fate paradox/awakened fate ultimatum.
@IonMagi Yeah, they're on such horrible terms, which is why Disgaea 6 was released on PS4 in Japan at launch, then the Complete version released on both PS4 and PS5 about one year after the Switch version released in the west...
@MasterVGuides it actually was the NISA Boss who said it 🙃

Hopefully a new IP that isn't a strategy game! I love the artwork/character designs and story for the games, but suck terrible at strategy based games.
@Milktastrophe Doesn't look anything like that
@Lolcat and guided fate paradox doesn't look like ZHP. No reason they can't change the style for their next roguelike.
@Milktastrophe Fair enough actually
@Lolcat to be fair, I should've said their next roguelike, I just figured there was a sliver of a better chance that people have heard of those games over knowing NIS has ever made any roguelikes.
