It was one of the first games announced for the PS5, but licensed stealth action title The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will finally lurk onto Sony’s new-gen console (as well as PS4, of course) from 1st September. A new gameplay trailer gives a taste of what you can expect, including first-person deep-sea diving and lots of crawling through shrubbery.
“Gollum is perhaps the most maligned and misunderstood creature in all of Middle-earth,” the press release teases. “Cursed with duelling personalities and a constant compulsion to find his Preciousss, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum takes players on an exceptional journey, sharing a perspective unique to Gollum alone. Whether creeping through tall grasses or swimming in rivers, Gollum must adapt and move with stealth if he is to evade enemies during his adventure.”
The title’s definitely improved since its earlier showings, and there are a real dearth of stealth games these days, so it could plug a gap. However, we’re still not all that keen on the idea of taking control of Gollum – it just doesn’t sound all that appealing to us. Hopefully we get to see a bit more gameplay prior to its release in a couple of months.

"Gameplay".. All it was was Gollum running around on all fours.
There's a reason it's untold methinks. You never know it might end up fun but it doesn't look that appealing to me.
At least the upcoming TV series might be good.
What's all these announcements today? Was there some kind of event?
This looks pretty bad. I lol'd when I saw lil' Gollum's legs dangling, shimmying across that ledge.
Still in the minority here but I’m remaining optimistic for this one. I’m just a sucker for a pretty trek through Middle Earth. Will probably wait for reviews but I really want this to be good and hopefully surprise all the naysayers.
My goodness this looks bad bad. Never been into LOTR so I have no dog in the fight, but this seems pretty rough
This looks terrible 😔
I'd not seen much of this, I'd voted it as one of my 5 most anticipated as I could see myself buying this fairly early as it's a new fantasy game. But perhaps not now.
I'd like the idea of the story with potentially the choice between Sméagol responses to situations and corrupted Gollum responses. But it just looks like it's going to be gameplay hints like "climb up there, quick" rather than any moral dilemmas. And a lot of scuttling.
PS Plus Extra, do your thing 😁 as I'm putting this on the reserve pile and won't be in any rush to actually own it :/
@Icey664 nacon had a livestream today.
Naaaaaah
Naaaaaah again
There's no way this game will actually be good right?
Looks goddamn awful!
I echo everyone else when I say this looks dull
I was one of the few that was pretty excited for this when it was first announced but....not now.
It still looks like a forgotten PS2 game. Man, what happened to all the great LotR games we had? Just being back conquests, a remaster of that would have been so much better than a Gollum game…..
This looks like it's going to be the best Gollum video game that's ever been made.
Need to see more.
It looks fine going by the developers previous work. They are not AAA devs but somehow got the license and people think the game should like something EA would make. Eh, maybe it'll be fun, maybe not.
Er it doesn't even look like Gollum??? Is it his brother or something
Yea not looking too impressive is it.
I was instantly excited for this game when I first saw it. But then got very surprised when majority of the comments were super negative about it.
I don't understand why the studio make a game for gollum, isn't that an aragon (or other warrior) make a better game? Like shadow of mordor series which is pretty good.
Its budget smeagel Gordon. The long lost brother of gollum
@bpomber I find it crazy they are charging full price for this game...hoping to be proven wrong when the reviews drop though.
Everyone is overreacting with the negative comments but yea I'd rather have a prequel game about Aragorn.
Looks slow, tedious and boring af.
If anybody suffers from insomnia, this will put them right to sleep.
