Shaky rumours regarding previous Sucker Punch properties inFAMOUS and Sly Cooper have been doing the rounds for years now, and have only increased in frequency since the Sony studio released its biggest blockbuster yet, Ghost of Tsushima, in 2020.
Indeed, there was a widespread inFAMOUS rumour making headlines back in September 2021, and then Sly Cooper had his turn months later in March 2022. On both accounts, we advised caution. Nothing concrete ever came from these whispers, and now we know why.
Sucker Punch has confirmed that no inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper projects are planned or in development. In a new blog post, it states: "With our focus on our current project, we have no plans to revisit inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper right now, and no other studio is currently working on projects related to those franchises either. These characters are very special and near and dear to our hearts, so while we’d never say never to re-opening those doors down the road, for now there are no inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper games in development." Those aforementioned rumours were essentially nonsense, then.
That "current project", by the way, is almost certainly a sequel to Ghost of Tshushima — something that's been heavily hinted at through job openings at the Bellevue-based developer.
Arguably the craziest part of this blog post, though? The studio says that it'll be running some maintenance on its inFAMOUS 2 UGC (user-generated content) servers soon. "We will eventually need to sunset these, but want to keep them running for as long as possible for players who are still active," it says. Please do let us know if you're still playing the PS3 title's community creations, because that kind of commitment has blown our minds.

I hope it's another new IP then. As much as I loved GoT, we need some more variety in Sony's first party lineup.
Sad that Sony is only interested in AAA Games with realistic Visuals nowadays. RIP Sly Cooper, Medieval, Wild Arms, Japan Studios and more. 🥀
Shame, I'd love to see a new Infamous Second Son was really fun would be great to see a new city and set of powers.
I’m good on sly cooper , the fourth game wasn’t good and it really ended with the third game . thieves in time doesn’t exist to me ; it wasn’t even made by sucker-punch . They can just remaster the trilogy from the ground up one day , but it’s a real shame about inFamous though .
@IonMagi New inFAMOUS and Sly Cooper games would both be considered AAA anyway?
@LiamCroft Thats why I said "with realistic visuals" and named Games and a Studio who mostly used Cell Shading/Comic/Anime Graphics
@IonMagi What about games like Concrete Genie, released less than three years ago?
So only one game at a time?
Boooo! Boooo!
What are Bluepoint up to atm? Surely the masters of Remasters/Remakes could be asked to work on an inFamous Collection at least?
@LiamCroft Probably has been in development since ~2016 so still under old leadership...Sony would never greenlight a Project like this nowadays. Im actually suprised the Team still exists.
I think their next game will be one of the upcoming live service games. They got their feet wet with Ghost of Tsushima multiplayer, now they'll go full love service.
@IonMagi
Screw those games lol.
There's a console for those.
@BritneyfR_ee They sadly work on a original Game. I understand that only doing Remakes can be boring for the Devs but still...
@CapGod I wish they would sell the IPs to Nintendo, at least they know how to market Games that arent AAAAA 🙂
Sorry guys we are not Insomniac, just one game at a time.
@IonMagi Maybe actually take a look at the games they do release over the next couple of years before making a statement like you did, then. You have very little evidence to actually base it off.
@IonMagi
It's a different audience. If zelda was a new ip and released on ps, nobody would buy it.
Infamous 1 and 2 were ahead of there time and should be remade if not by sucker punch pay someone else to do it
Such a nice message on the day that Ubisoft announces its sunsetting the servers for all PS3 Asscreed games save for Black Flag, plus a few other titles like Splinter Cell and Rayman.

@LiamCroft worth writing an article for?
@LiamCroft I would love to know more about their upcoming Games besides Marvel but as we all know Sony had nothing to show so far. I highly doubt we will ever see a more non-realistic Game from them tho.
Disappointed. Really enjoyed GoT but I'm not a big fan of Samurai setting so I'm not all that excited for a sequel. I will play it someday, would just rather have a new inFAMOUS and Sly Cooper instead.
They should reboot inFAMOUS to bring Cole back. At the very least, someone should remake/remaster the originals so that PS4&5 can play those without relying on Plus service.
Not a big fan of infamous but am gutted about sly ,some of my greatest times on ps consoles have been spent playing sly
This is why Sony studios mainly get the amazing big AAA games out, studio management and focus.
Focus on that one game and get it out to the gaming public and micro manage that game and stay tight on it and focus on it and definitely don’t scope creep.
That's a shame but Sucker Punch has certainly earned my trust with whatever they are cooking next so I won't complain. My personal favorite Playstation first party studio.
Also shout out to the people still playing the UGC stuff in Infamous 2! I remember I had a great time with that mode for months after I finished the game. It's too bad it didn't make it in Second Son. Might need to fire up the PS3 and fool around in UGC just out of respect!
But but insidERA said blah blah
Would sites reporters stop with the fake rumours then? Of course not. They are too valuclickable.
At least some proper news here. 👍🏻
It feels like so many decent PS franchises have been shelved for the newer ones. Jak, Sly, InFamous, Resistance, Killzone etc. Even Ratchet & Clank took 8 years to get a follow up to Into The Nexus.
On the other hand I'm still glad we've got games like TLOU, Horizon, Spider-Man and Ghost of Tsushima. Can't have them all ig
@IonMagi I'm sure if Sucker Punch wanted to make another Sly Cooper, they'd be allowed to do so. There was a Ratchet and Clank game, Astro Bot, and Sack Boy all in the first year of the console so while, yes, Sonys bread and butter are story focused games, there's room for platformers.
Do they think Sly Cooper type games only work on Nintendo these days?
@IonMagi You forgot that now they are more focused on live service games of which they have 12 in development
@CynicalGamer It does, for example look at gravity rush 2, people never mention it when they speak about PS exclusives.
I really wish the original Sly Cooper trilogy could get a remaster. I'd even take a HD port. Not interesting in streaming games, surely there'd be enough market to actually make it available natively on PS4/PS5?
Feels like Sony is maybe trying to address some of the rumours and "insider info" (mostly made up, it seems) that seem to have reached critical mass and resulted in the whole God Of War thing we had this week.
As for Sly, I don't really mind. The PS2 games and Thieves in Time were amazing for me and I don't really know how they can spice it up without ruining the charm. Maybe its best to do new ones way down the line for a younger generation, or hand it to another dev like Thieves in Time.
For inFamous I'm crine. My all time top 10 franchises. I bought my PS4 because of Second Son. I played the first two for at least 50 days worth of hours. If they take their time with it, put as much as they put into the previous entries then they can release it whenever. As long as they treat it good.
I wouldn't have expected them to be working on any of those IPs, GoT is there future now, and if done right it could have truly special sequel.
Of course it doesn't mean another studio could work on those franchises eventually. I would like to see a remaster for Infamous 1 and 2 like.
@SamMR yeah but I feel like with a bit more effort they have the library to get some more of those demographic back. That being said, I do prefer the God of Wars and Ghost of Tsushimas so all good with me
That's a shame I'm a giant infamous fan and it was the first PS3 game I bought that blew my mind 🙁 could we at least get remaster collection of those games to PS4/PS5? Surely that wouldn't require too many resources!
This is too bad, inFamous is always a joy to revisit and Second Son in particular set a standard for PS4 visuals and gameplay. Hopefully PS5 will see a new one some day but it's sounding pretty doubtful.
I liked Ghost of Tsushima but I loved Infamous so much more.
Infamous>GoT
It’s very disappointing to learn that it’s not even being worked on by another developer.
I feel like there'd be plenty of third party devs who'd step in to remaster the original games, and create a sequel, even if it was just a budget entry.
It's not even like you'd be milking these franchises doing this, since it's been 8 years since the last Infamous, and 9 since the last Sly.
Just hire someone outside to make ports remasters of the old games to modern consoles. Thats all i ask and am willing to pay for
Damn would love a new sly. Even just a remake would be good. Infamous also…
Its a pity i loved all the Infamous gsmes the last expansion was fantastic for and i really wanted it to go on.
Bummer, dude. My hopes and dreams are forever dead
Something about this doesn’t seem right to me.
When do first party studios ever just release statements about old franchises randomly without prompt?
Wish they would at least remaster the existing titles for PS4/PS5. There's too many great games trapped on PS3. Sly would really only need a port since they've already done the remastering. Bring them to PC too if that helps justify the dev cost. Same for Resistance, Killzone and Motorstorm. MGS4 as well.
This makes me sad
As much as I like it I'm not fussed if there's no inFAMOUS or not but the lack of Sly games is driving me insane if Sucker Punch don't wanna make Sly games anymore why can't another Sony team? Ghost is on of my favourite games ever made so I'm soooooooo excited to get more but I don't want Sly to die because SP don't want to make it any more let someone else do it
It took 6 years for them to make GoT so I can see why they can't work on two games at the same time. I like the Infamous games but lets be real here, you all were the same people whining the series was stale when Second Son came out and Sucker Punch needed to do something different. The insufferable negative attitude on some of you is just so weird to me. I wonder why people like IonMagi even game anymore when literally everything he posts is negative about the state of the industry.
@xDD90x Infamous 1 and 2 Remaster with the expansion just a little polish and updated textures 60 FPS and resolution bump and ill be all over them.
@OmegaStriver I loved Cole so much i would love to see him get back in some way.
That’s unfortunate, because GoT suuuucks haha. Nothing but Far Cry with swords. Absolute snooze fest with absolutely nothing new to say.
Infamous ss was a repetitive, generic, open world game, with silly little markers to get to, plus destroy things just to destroy things..
I still like the xmen type powers and all but, better innovate.
@Dezzy70 You're not wrong, but if a studio is big enough, they can work on multiple games at a time and still get them out in reasonable time unlike most of Xbox's studios. Insomniac definitely qualifies, as they are working on at least 2 games right now. You would think Sony could expand their core studios like Insomniac, but alas it doesn't seem like that is the case here.
With that said, as long as it's another AAA story driven title, I'm good. I'm with others that feel that GoT doesn't really need a sequel even though it's a really good game, but I have a feeling that is the game they are working on since it was such a success.
@IonMagi Sony has decided to put all of their resources towards western blockbusters. Realistic graphics, (supposedly) dramatic stories, and gameplay for the lowest common denominator. The intro to in-house Sony games mimicking the intro to a Marvel studios movies tells you all you need to know.
Despite their success, I don't think this is a good long term strategy. Good investments come from a diverse portfolio.
If the current genres go out of style, they will be ill-equipped to easily pivot to newer trends.
@KilloWertz
Yes some do work on more than one.
But sometimes you hear about other studios working on 3 or 4. Mainly not Sonys and then we wonder why those studios don’t get the game out or it becomes well below expectations.
I think Sony manage their studios the best by a long way when it comes to big AAA games and most of the time they really are amazing games.
@Dezzy70 Oh yeah, they definitely manage their studios really well. It's a shame they closed down Japan Studio and seem to put more focus on less variety, but for the most part it's hard to knock what they do put out, and you don't have to wait forever for them most of the time either.
Sly is one of my favorite Sony mascots. Too bad they don't think the same.
@KilloWertz
At the monument my favourite game producer
And if GOW2 hit this year then top that.
Nintendo second, but seem to have dropped big in house AAA games for to long, after a great first year or so.
Xbox third, a very good FH5, half hearted Halo campaign and looks decades old environmentally and graphically and biome wise.
Uncharted 4 ps5 remake lol
Edit* just remembered sonys doing the legacy of thieves collection 😂
Glad to read it. Infamous had 3 games, and people expect them to bring it back, now that they finally got a new and praised ip on their hands. Played Second son a year a go, and it blows.
So basically 80% of everything I've ever bought PlayStations for for 25 years is discontinued. Thanks, Jimmy!
Both games were great but you can't keep making the same games. New IP is important. Sony already has a bad record with milking IP. I hope SP make something new. I won't be mad with a GOT2 but a new game would be better. I would also like Naughty Dog to start on something new now after over a decade of TLOU/Uncharted
Id take GoT 2 over either of those anyday. I've got Spider-Man for my super hero fix and I've never played a sly cooper game in my life. Easy choice.
Just wishful thinking. Why do this to us with rumors of games that are not coming?
@pushsquare
Didn’t Ghost of Tsushima come out in 2020, not 2019?
If Ratchet and Clank, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro could make a comeback, I don't see why Sly Cooper couldn't/wouldn't especially since Sony featured the Sly Cooper logo in their last promotional video.
With how popular Ghost of Tsushima is I'm not really surprised it's not on the radar at this time.
@Jacko11 Alot of fans have been bugging them over the rumors of a new Sly Cooper or inFamous game.
That combined with the recent God of War Ragnarok fiasco is prob why, since they're a fellow Sony own studio like Santa Monica.
Kinda of a bummer. As I am one of the few that thought Ghost was highly overrated and for open world elements very iterative.
The story was ok, but the gameplay elements have all been done before. I think had they really fully embraced the stealth elements and made locations far more intricate and vertical, that coupled with the stealth would have made it truly special.
I especially wish they had just not even had a map and truly made it like they advertised where you had to scan the horizon and follow the wind. To include the map on top of that was just laughable when i realized they had done that after the prerelease marketing.
would love to see a current tech infamous.
The only thing that's good about this news is that they've put useless rumors to rest. I wish other studios would be as open, it would spare a lot of online rumor drama and the useless hype it's generating that amounts to nothing in the end.
I liked very much the Cole Infamous games. I bought my PS3 back in the day, as an Infamous bundle. Even kept the box for a few years, it looked too cool to throw away.
Unfortunately, after the rather disappointing Second Son, this franchise was left to catch dust on the shelf.
I would have loved a new game more akin to the first 2,5 (counting Festival of Blood too). Or at least a Remake of those games.
But it looks this IP will continue to stay on the bench for years to come. Too bad.
@anoyonmus Good catch!
@SuperPotato316 Only console exclusives, as both Kena and Stray are/will be also available on PC since day one.
@ShogunRok thank you
It's true that the series program ended in the third game and the last game they planned to release was the game Levita, but why not just give us a collection of remakes of Sly Cooper's original games and the game that Levita released for the PlayStation 4 and 5?!? I unfortunately missed his games and would very much like to play these amazing games that are considered PlayStation 2 classics and there are plenty like me who also have not tried or are unfamiliar with these games and if you give them remakes it can bring these games back to consciousness. But what annoys me the most is that Infamous will not get a new game / reboot / remakes / remasters or anything else for the original games from the PlayStation 3 which are also considered classics of the PlayStation 3 that people expect graphic innovations or new games, and Infamous Second Son showed me and lots of people unfamiliar with the series That this series has tremendous potential to become one of the expected brands of PlayStation like God Of War, Uncharted or Ratchet and Clank.
@PoopScoop I actually did not, I thought the second son was an amazing game and really enjoyed it until I wanted more and I also liked First Light even though it felt less good to me than the previous game, I hope they just work on us to lower expectations to surprise us sometime these games come back 🙏🏻
Good. Those games are done and failed to fully take off. Move on
@BReal
"are done"
The story of Sly isn't over.
"failed to fully take off"
Not every game needs to sell 10 million copies.
Well... yeah. Working on more Tsushima i gather. There is a "sequel" to the setting in real life. So, i expected they would do it.
I’d never heard of the Sly Cooper games until I got into PS3 and PS4 around 2018 and got the HD Trilogy on PS3 and loved it! So much so I’ve since bought the PS2 originals, just because I had to.
They felt very ‘Nintendo’ to me, which was surprising considering Sucker Punch are American and first party to PlayStation.
