Sony is now offering a free seven-day trial option for PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium. We're not entirely sure whether this option has only just appeared or whether it's simply been overlooked up until now, but it's right there on Sony's official PlayStation Plus page (as spotted by XGP). And, as far as we can tell, it's only available to European customers at the time of writing.
This free trial period applies to any Extra or Premium subscription option — that's one month, three months, or 12 months. If you do grab the free trial, note that you'll be paying the regular subscription amount once the trial expires — so be sure to cancel before then if that's not a part of your plans.
It doesn't sound like a lot of time, but a week's worth of access to Extra or Premium could actually be quite generous if you spend it wisely. The Extra games catalogue in particular offers an impressive number of titles, all of which can be downloaded. You can check out our massive All PS Plus Games guide for much more information.
Think you'll give this free trial a go? Hit that subscribe button in the comments section below.

As it’s likely We’ll all only be able to claim this once, I’ll wait until there is a good short game I really want to play. Problem is I’m a JRPG guy, so all my games take 100-200hrs to fully plat. Don’t think I could get one of those done in a week.
1 - Get this tomorrow
2 - Play Stray
3 - ?????
Signed in and the link asks me to pay. So maybe for people without ps plus at all.
This is just for people who have never had a playstation plus subscription
That's 7 days to play Stray in then? I'm already with Extra so i shell keep this back for another time.
I need to renew so I was going to renew end of the month but there is no trial on the phone app so I am not sure either it isn't viewable on their or I am just not able to view cos I had premium before.
@hoffa007
Apparently it’s only for new subscribers unfortunately.
Cool, my month-long subscription will end soon so I'll take advantage of this.
EU only means I won't be trying.😝
@Athrum #3 forget to cancel and pay for month 1 anyway
@thefourfoldroot1 that was my assumption, not to worry that's ok, thanks for the reply.
If I were Sony, I'd have automatically put everyone on Ps Plus Premium for the 1st week and then revert them to whatever tier they are on.
That way if you are on Essential, you will know what you're missing out on rather never having experienced Premium so you don't know what you're missing out on.
@Netret0120 that sounds like a very Sony move. Do you work for them? 😃
@Netret0120 99% of people wouldn't even notice so wouldn't take advantage of the extra benefits and then wouldn't notice when they start "missing" stuff. But I guess that also means it wouldn't really have been any harm to do it.
@carguy143
Lol no I don't. I've just noticed my friends who have PS Plus Essential not be bothered with upgrading since they mostly just play COD and Fifa.
They may try a few games on Extra/Premium that they normally would never have bought and realise they like it and decide to sub for a year.
@Milktastrophe
This is a possibility. Sony giving the trial is basically to increase the accounts subscribed to Extra/Premium so I think its easier to miss something if you have tried it before, rather than something you have never tried so you don't know what you're missing
Can I still claim the offer if I'm already a ps extra subscriber?
So I'm just going to go ahead and ask this. Is there any way to cheat the system here? I'm in the US, I have a UK account that's never had PS+, but obviously I can't add a payment method because of my US credentials. I'd love to play Stray...for free. But I'm not sure if there's any way around this? Maybe someone knows something I don't?
@Netret0120 fair. I decided to give PS+ Extra a go as I wanted to try Ghost of Tsushima, Returnal and a couple of others which are all still selling for 60 quid each.
