Given that the Russian national team as well as Russian league teams were removed from FIFA 22 via an update back in April, it comes as no real surprise to hear that Russian football will not be represented in FIFA 23. The confirmation comes from EA Sports itself, as reported by Eurogamer.
Russia's removal from last year's game came about as a response to the country's ongoing invasion of Ukraine. It mirrored the real life decision of chief footballing bodies to ban Russia and its teams from competing in European competitions, like the Champions League.
A statement from the developer reads: "EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and like so many voices across the world of football, calls for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine."
It continues: "In line with our partners at FIFA and UEFA, EA Sports will not include the Russian national team or Russian clubs in FIFA 23."
