SEGA is looking into the possibility of adapting the Atlus library of games for films and TV shows, the publisher revealed to IGN. The Persona series was one example highlighted by the Japanese company itself, but other possibilities include the overall Shin Megami Tensei franchise and Catherine.
Speaking to the website, lead producer of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies Toru Nakahara said: "Atlus' worlds are filled with high drama, cutting-edge style and compelling characters. Stories like those from the Persona franchise really resonate with our fans and we see an opportunity to expand the lore like no one has seen — or played — before." He then adds: "Together, Sega and Atlus, are working to bring these stories and worlds to life through new mediums and for new audiences."
The publisher has experienced a lot of success recently with the movie adaptations of Sonic the Hedgehog and friends, with the sequel comfortably beating the blue blur's big-screen debut for global box office earnings. It appears SEGA will now turn to its other IPs in an attempt to make them a success too — either in cinemas or on TV streaming services. The company says it's currently talking to various studios and producers about live-action adaptations of its franchises.

They already adapted Persona 3 into the excellent animated movies. The adaptations of 4 and 5 were pretty rubbish though. I just hope these aren’t live action.
You know that this will happen.
Can SEGA & Atlus work someway to bring Persona: Trinity Soul officially to Crunchyroll (and other Television Subscription services) as well?
hell no. especially if its from hollywood. imagine what would happen to the franchise if these people got a foothold in the decision making
There's potential I think, the day by day format. Probably better suited to a netflix/amazon series than movie though, and would need really good writers.
As long as they don't do what they did with Persona 3 it's fine I think. Those bored me more than I would have thought.
Oh please no. Stop watering down every little corner of gaming, and the last remaining aspects of book-like writing in games into Hollywood mass market trash. I really don't want SMTVI to feature Kurt Russell as Kuburo, your childhood friend turned demon.
The Persona 3 and 4 anime actually turned out pretty good. P5's anime not so much sadly. It did have some good openings though!
I actually think Catherine could make a good film if done well but we will see if any of this comes to fruition.
"Live action" I'm done.
@Korgon Yeah the P5 anime was such a massive disappointment with its awful animation and the way it did the story.
No thanks if they meant live-action, Persona only works in animated form!
I'd watch Catherine as an anime or movie.
My god. Can you imagine Netflix's vision for a Persona series? Just the thought of it makes me shudder.
@nessisonett Hell nah, the Persona 4 anime was golden, and is what made Yu the best persona MC.
If the persona 5 movie/series is at least 200 hours long.....I may watch it.....then rewatch it....twice....
Seems everyone wants to make their games into movies/series these days.
Really love Persona but I'm not sure how to feel about this. It would be better suited for being a long animated series. And they should redo that. Put a lot of episodes into each season. Should look closer to the games too.
The only way I can see this working is that the actors and real world locations will need to look a LOT like the ones in the game and everything else will have to be CGI. Let's see how the trailer looks when they launch one. If it looks bad then I will be skipping it
No thanks. Opinions vary but it seems like beloved franchises are rarely treated well by Hollywood.
@Korgon I'll be honest, I would think it would work better as a tv series.
Is Persona really being developed into a movie or is someone at Sega just being a joker? I guess I’d watch it.
Hey Sega, we need a Golden Axe movie. Picture this: It’d star a Conan the Barbarian-like dude, but the guy will be wearing blue trunks. And there’d be a green elf who does little rolley moves and hits with his axe. And, there’d be a long-haired, sword-brandishing gal donning a revealing red garb. And there’d be little kickable potion-carrying guys who try to sneak into the blue-trunk dude’s camp at night. Is there a plot to it? Not sure. Never got past those sword-slashing skeletons and the big knight in silver.
Japanese drama adaptations of the Persona games would be great for Paramount+.
They would provide Paramount some good international content and it would be a good way for the shows to have high production values.
Persona could probably be Paramount+’s answer to Squid Game (Netflix’s big Asian drama hit) and Snowdrop (Disney+’s big Asian drama hit).
I mention Paramount specifically since the Sonic movies were Paramount. And the Knuckles the Echidna show will be streaming on Paramount+.
