Star Ocean: The Divine Force is the next instalment in the long-running series of JRPGs, and it launches on 27 October for both PS5 and PS4. Square Enix has released a couple of trailers detailing the motivations and backstories of the dual protagonist's players will be able to choose between.
Laeticia Aucerius is the princess of the Kingdom of Aucerius located on the underdeveloped planet of Aster IV. Laeticia embarks on a secret mission in response to the threat of an encroaching neighbouring kingdom and will do whatever it takes to ensure her people's safety.
Raymond is the hot-headed captain of the merchant vessel Ydas, of Lawrence Logistics, an interstellar transport company run by his family. When the Ydas crash-lands on Aster IV, Raymond must search for the members of his missing crew, and find a way off the backwater planet.
Together with a ragtag group of allies, both will need to work together in order to save everything they hold dear from a dire threat. Sounds like a proper JRPG, doesn't it?
What's cool is that depending on which character you choose, you will experience the story from a different perspective; Laeticia's represents a more traditional fantasy tale, whereas Raymond's plays like a sci-fi epic.

So far I was giving this game the benefit of the doubt, despite odd character models, but releasing trailers with such shoddy lip sync is worrisome. I really hope for a delay that this works. Even the characters could work if they'd add some shaders and make it look like a 80s/ early 90s anime.
Others on here might know exactly what I think of The Divine Force; it's going to make or break the series for me. I liked The Last Hope, I liked the original on SNES, I love the concepts and the stories...but the last entry was so bad I lost a lot of faith in Tri-ace. Especially after the absolutely amazing decade they had 2000-2010 and not just with Star Ocean. So.....please don't be crap. (Traditional fantasy tale? Nah. I'll play Raymond first then...)
@tameshiyaku
I think I’m just used to an English dub for these types of games, so don’t expect the lips to sync up.
Agree about the character models though, and more so the character design generally. Nothing to match the designs In Integrity and faithlessness
Having only played the PS2 Star Ocean I haven’t been scarred by more recent entries in the series. So I’m going into this game fresh faced and doe eyed.
I’m convinced it’s going to be magical!
@Kienda I enjoyed what I played of Til' The End of Time, but that wasn't very much...in the first planet you get to there's a monster (I don't even think it was a boss) that hands your butt to you in the first few hours of the game. I haven't been back...........
.........
.....too scared, monster will eat me
but it's a shame because I've heard so many things about the high quality of TTEOT.
Day 1 for me. Star Ocean is a childhood necessity.
But I have it on my SteamDeck list like most RPGs now. If not working on it I'll move it to PS5.
Regardless, so many RPGs on the horizon - it is good times!
Thought this game was January, guess that was Squenix other game For spoken. This comes out the day before Bayonetta 3 which I preordered in December2018 so I may wait on reviews for this one. Also likely to be half price by March after the last one reviewed so poorly. Looming good though.
@thefourfoldroot1 same here, and I know VO seldomly lines up with the animation (only know of Tsushima, judgement and now xenoblade 3), but this feels like a English Dub of a 70s Kung Fu movie 😂
The baseline is to stop jabbering once the lips stop moving.
I’m a long time fan of Star Ocean, and I’ve personally loved every game in the series except for Integrity and Faithlessness. That one was just okay. This one, The Divine Force, is looking like it has a lot of potential to me. I really like what I’ve seen of it so far. I’m hopeful it’ll be better than Integrity and Faithlessness was, and so far, it looks like it very well could be.
I'm still uncertain about this new entry, but hope it performs well!
