We’re not quite sure how industry veteran Glen Schofield has pulled this off, but The Callisto Protocol has come out of nowhere and collectively dropped our jaws. Yes, it’s ultimately derivative of the Dead Space concept that he helped cook up at Visceral Games, but it’s seriously impressive how new studio Striking Distance has managed to execute an outing this compelling on its first attempt.
Of course, you’ll already be familiar with the gameplay from various summer livestreams, but here’s a little more to sink your teeth into. It comes by way of a Game Informer interview, in which Schofield digs a little deeper into his creative process and how the project came about. In short, he went to the desert to draw some pictures, and this is what he came up with.
Remember, the release is due out on 2nd December, so the year looks set to end with a pretty big bang. Where does this rank on your most wanted radar?

Must play maybe if you like horror games. I personaly can't play them. Even the freaker caves in Days Gone would make me ***** my pants.
Loved the Dead Space series (even last one which rather jumped the shark) and will happily play this when it’s been out a little while and come down in price. @Sil_Am don’t play Resi 7 then for goodness sake. Scariest game I’ve ever played I think (lights off and headphones on).
From the footage this is quite obviously Dead Space on next gen with a different name. And I say that as a positive.
This will heat up those cold dark winter nights. Can't wait.
Can't wait for this, will be on my Xmas list for sure.
True Dead space.
I love Dead Space and I'm kinda surprised it took this long for us to get a spiritual successor to the series.
Ironic that the remake of the first game is releasing around the same time.
pre ordered some time now… gimmi gimmi
Its kinda like a big FU to EA ,"you broke my creation so ill do it properly myself" ,the game looks great its basically dead space which is fabulous news ,love that game.
Pre-ordered for PS5
@Grimwood It's on both. Google is a wonderful resource of information.
Im glad this game exists and really hope it does well. A new game deserves more success than all these remakes
i only play these games in a darkened room. cant bloody wait
I’ve had this on my radar since it was announced. This was my most anticipated game of the year by a country mile. Yes, even over God Of War. Accordingly, I’ve already pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe Edition as I want the season pass for it as well. Can’t wait to play it!!
I already bought it. Playing it as soon as it releases.
So many horror games coming out within a few months, with this in December, Dead Space Remake in January, & Resident Evil 4 in March! My favorite genre in video games hands down, so I can't wait!
I just need to figure out which platform to go with for each game. Xbox Series X or PS5? Hmmm.....
Insane how fast they made this game! And in the meanwhile formed a new studio! Game looks incredible!
It’s currently £45.99 on Amazon for the PS5 version.
Glad folks are hyped for it and it certainly looks like it's being made by a good team, but the hyper realistic gore is just too much for me.
N.i.c.e. God of war ragnarok and the callisto protocol are my 2 most anticipated games this year.word up son
Didn't know this was coming out on PS4 too. Really glad about that.
I'm glad we've all gotten over our cross gen derangement.
o man I cannot wait for this gem!
pre-order locked in
Well im a big fan of dead soace.i hope this game runs well on my poor ps4 "last gen"...
Since a ps5 us far away from my pocket
Rent,bills etc to pay before a ps5
I miss out on so many great games by being totally unable to handle horror games. Other than forcing myself to play through the many in my backlog I can't see how I'll ever change. Wish someone would invent a courage pill
Looks like a day one purchase for horror fans. Can’t wait.
Yea this game has truly shocked me as well how good it looks to be.
I'm really enjoying the exclusive gameplay for it so far. Only issue I have with it is the base enemies are a little too generic coming from Glen Schofield.
A third person action-horror-scifi-space-adventure game? I'm absolutely in.
High on my list! I don't mind derivative games, especially if the gameplay hasn't been done to death.
@Ico1977
Try it on PSVR and remember to wear a nappy!
God of war, this and hogwarts are my top 3 most awaited games 2022
Yeah it looks fantastic, i think its easily going to be the surprise hit of the year.
@Robbirtles @Sil_Am im in the same boat as both of you guys. I love the idea of horror games but i just cant bring myself to play them. Jump scare, freaky monsters, suspense and being chased are my worst fears in a video game. I just cant play them.
I have your back, I’ll be that 3rd person that sees the 2nd person behind the 1st person.
Day one. As someone with no interest in Ragnarok or TLoU Reremake I can't wait for this to drop. Its been a long gap since Elden Ring for a must buy title.
I don’t see this as ‘horror’ per se. Mostly a good space sci fi TPS with good shooting and combat mechanics. I really hope DualSense is well used 👍🏻
I read the interview, definitely my most anticipated game of the year, and most likely my goty. Dead space is my favorite series, december cant come quick enough
I've been exited for this game since the release date trailer!
I dunno if it'll be a pre-order/day one purchase, but def looking forward to playing.
@Ico1977 I think the scariest game for me was outlast 1. Went in not knowing anything. The first moment you need to use night vision on the camcorder I was already like ‘nope’. It was great though.
This is a day one purchase for me. Looks crazy.
@StandardCabrera ahh yes that was really freaky!
Only if you don’t factor in the extreme lack of competition atm. Anything looks great when you’re starving, a smart head knows that though and reserves judgment until the “tasting” 👌
@StandardCabrera I’ve tried Outlast a couple of times but can’t get far due to the terror setting in very early. One of these days I’ll put on my big boy pants and get further in. Maybe.
@Ico1977 don’t get me wrong, I couldn’t play more than fifteen 15 minutes at a time at first lol, anxiety was through the roof
