Let's be honest: The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has been looking kinda rough, hasn't it? What little we've seen of the game, which casts you as the notorious character obsessed with the One Ring, has appeared to fall short of where we'd expect a game in this franchise to be. While the game was given a 1st September release date not too long ago, it seems the studio has decided to scratch that, delaying the game indefinitely.
Yes, the game has been pushed back "by a few months", with no firm date just yet. It sounds like the delay is simply "in order to deliver the best possible experience", meaning a little more time getting that extra TLC. What's interesting is the new Lord of the Rings show, The Rings of Power, is set to debut on 2nd September, so that cross-pollination potential is somewhat lost.
Still, hopefully the game will be worth the wait. Fingers crossed it'll be in better shape when we next see it. Are you excited for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum? Tell a riddle in the comments section below.

Damn so there ain't no good lotr media in the pipeline for the year huh
I'm a little relieved tbh.
What we've seen of this title so far has been disappointing. The right ideas are there, it just clearly needs a lot of work.
Always hoping for good games from Germany - Chorus was a good one - but this Gollum game will be only average.
Remember people, we'd rather see delays than have what happened with CDPR
I seriously think most gamers didn't want to play as gollum, but rather other characters like aragon, legolas, gimli, or even frodo. Open world lotr games where you play as frodo and sneak into mordor seems way more interesting than this.
How about they start announcing games at an appropriate time instead of 10 years before they've even started working on it so that they can actually hit the marks they set for themselves?
Well, the industry delayed 2020, into 2021, 21 into 22, might as well delay 22 into 23.
Are there ANY games still coming out this year? 😫
@GagaOooLaLa I mean, there is FIFA and COD
@Cherip-the-Ripper Doesn’t the TV show air in September? The trailer was really impressive.
@naruball haha I’m only being dramatic. I’m still looking forward to Evil West, God of War, A Plague Tale Requiem, TLoU, Destroy All Humans 2 and Callisto Protocol. Maybe those Gotham Knights / Midnight Suns games too. Things aren’t quite dire enough to resort to playing FIFA or COD (well, not yet anyway) 😂
From the trailer, the game has potential, but sure is lacking polish.
For this delay so near release makes me believe the core is already done, so it really about making it look better.
Take your sweet time sugar I will see you on down the road.
Why even bother at this point
Would love a good LOTR game. However, the Styx games really weren’t for me, so this news isnt hitting too hard
Im up for this title... Lotr has been done to death at this point, so a game from Gollums perspective is an interesting fresh perspective!
It was looking rough around the edges though, so it really needs this tidy up. Im not sure a few months is enough tbh.
I do look forward to trying it when its ready, and I hope they manage to turn around expectations....
Who thought it was a good idea to create a game when you play as Gollum? Seems boring, I would like to play as any member of the fellowship or something...
@nessisonett it does yeah
Hogwarts Legacy next
Of all the games getting delayed this year, this is certainly one of them.
Maybe they’re adding some gameplay that doesn’t involve crawling around and hiding. One of the worst trailers I can recall. It looks like A Plague Tale minus all the fun parts.
I'd prefer they delayed it for good and give us a real Lord Of The Rings game like the ones we had on PS2 with co-op fun
I still think this concept is awesome and I'm glad if they wanna take more time on it.
@Cherip-the-Ripper umm it could still have the September 1st date and your statement would still be true. This game is a certifiable flop in the making.
@Gloamin story wise it’s average but that’s my personal opinion. Not the biggest fan of dark fantasy and the story sequences are a bit dull.
Nevertheless the gameplay ist really cool, a very fun old school space shooter. Nice sounds, cool weapons, fluid and good looking 60 fps.
Game should also be part of the PlayStation summer sale. 20€ currently in the German store. Great price for the game.
I'm more hyped for Amazon's series TBH, this will be a $20 or cheaper bargain bin game for me no matter when it eventually releases.
