Japanese gaming publication Famitsu has given us our very first look at Yakuza: Like a Dragon 2 — or whatever the sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon ends up being called. Despite being officially announced back in October of last year, we haven't seen anything of the sequel up until now. All we know for sure is that it'll once again star the lovable Ichiban Kasuga.
Anyway, Famitsu's off-screen shots show Ichiban (now with his hair tied back into a little ponytail) as well as returning characters Yu Nanba and Koichi Adachi. The fact that the game is suddenly being covered may suggest that a debut trailer is heading our way soon. It's starting to seem likely that it'll show up at Tokyo Game Show 2022, which is happening in September.
Famitsu also confirms that the game will feature Mikuru Asakura — a popular Japanese mixed martial artist. We don't yet know who Asakura will be playing, but as per the fighter's own video on the subject, he's in there. And of course, Asakura won't be the first sports personality to show up in a Yakuza game — the series already has a history of throwing professional wrestlers into the mix.

Wonder if it has some sort of exclusivity with Xbox again lol
>Ichiban has tied his hair back
Good. Finally I can take him seriously lol. Haven't played the first one, so can't be too judgemental, but that DBZ hair looked so goofy
I absolutely loved Like A Dragon. Probably my favourite Yakuza game along with 0. Can't wait for more Ichi and gang.
My favourite series of all time and one of the only series of games I’d ever even consider buying at release. Not keen on Ichiban yet, but hopefully that’ll change.
@BoldAndBrash I wouldn't bet on him keeping it tied back, mind.
@BoldAndBrash
I’m the opposite, whether in a game or real life, I can’t take a man seriously if he has a ponytail or, worse, a “man bun”
One of my favorite games of the last decade.
Ichiban fixing his hair...I have mixed feelings, I liked how the frizzy hair is kind of like 'JRPG/anime hero hair' but applied to being a real life bad hair day situation, which fits with Ichiban and his worship of the heroes from Dragon Quest.
I hope it doesn't stay neat, i'll say that.
Hopefully it doesn't have a weird current gen exclusivity deal in place... I would have to shut my mouth to avoid spoilers until my ps5 only friends can play a current gen version.
Controversial opinion but I think this is far and away the best yakuza game. Loved the characters and the battle system was a blast.
Here’s to hoping we get some news sooner than later
Ayyyy LESS GO BAYBEE!
Keen!
I'm wondering if Judgment will get a third game after the actor's likeness not supposed to be on PC was a thing last year? Looking forward to playing Lost Judgment but haven't gotten too it yet.
I'm hyped. I loved Yakuza 7 to pieces.
Ichiban, lipstick for men. Saikou!
OMG the backlog is so real! I still have to go back and play like 60 more hours of the first before I even think about the second, and both Judgements are still in the back log too!
Just add another JRPG to the list. We are eating so good in this genre!
Like A Dragon was a great first crack at a JRPG Yakuza game. If they can just clean up some of the little issues the 1st one had like characters in your party getting stuck on the geometry on their way to a fight and how grindy the job system could get Like A Dragon 2 could be excellent!
@NEStalgia
I think we all have a huge backlog but, for me, any Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio game like this gets pushed right to the front of the list!
@Colour
Not that controversial, imo. I usually can't stand turn-based gameplay but, somehow, RGG made a game where I actually enjoyed it. I did miss the action-based combat of the past but the new battle system was still very fun and had that Yakuza flair to it. And everything else was exactly what I expect from the series. Wild, whacky moments and fun characters. Can't wait for the sequel
This is easily my most anticipated game. I love the entire Yakuza series and will preorder this no matter what. Like a Dragon was such a blast. Before it i was never really into turn based games but this one turned me around. Give me more Ichiban please
I see Nanba. That's good enough for me to be excited!
Just hope they change up the combat. Really liked the turn-based take, but it was so janky.
Excited for this - though happy to wait a long time as I have played a lot of Yakuza over the last 2 years. What a beautiful experience Like A Dragon was though. For me it’s 2nd only to Y0.
Cool.word up son
I just hope they also continue the Judgment series, as I find the "classic" Yakuza gameplay superior to turn based Yakuza.
I can't wait. Like a Dragon was great. Reminded me of an more adult version of Persona.
oh yes more please love the characters and substories. hopefully judgement will get sorted out to have a new game there to.
@Colour
This is the only yakuza I would buy. For sure
"Yakuza: Like a Dragon 2", god I hate that name.
@thefourfoldroot1 I'm still working on Zero. The game says I'm 120 hours in, and I'm just wrapping up with the cabaret club....... RGG alone makes my backlog hurt..... I don't even do trophies, that's just natural play time!
@NEStalgia
They do take a long time. I have all the plats, did them all apart from Lost Judgment and FotNS in a 9 month period, but that is because I love the games so much and want to do everything. The longest one took me over 200hrs (I think it was 5). Even without going for the plats though, if you do all the side stories and play all the games, it can take well over 100hrs as you say. Incredible value. Hope they never stop making games in this format.
@thefourfoldroot1 Yeah, I do worry now that Nagoshi's gone how the series will progress, but definitely hope it can keep going. Heck between this and the Legend of Heroes series, that could consume an entire gaming lifetime right there. They never get old!
I personally don't mind a ponytail or a tied up bun when it comes to hair but I do hope Ichiban let go of it soon enough in the sequel. Imo his original hair style, coupled with his red suit, is his signature look.
Yeah still not a fan of Ichiban or Yakuza being turn based so I will be waiting for the next Judgement next year.
@NEStalgia
Never really got much into LoH series. Got the plat for Trails of Cold Steel on PS3, and was on my second playthrough of the sequel when PS4 came out and I got distracted and never went back. Definitely my type of game though.
@BoldAndBrash the hair is a joke in the game, Ichiban hates the way it looks too!
@AndyKazama I hope Sega didn't just stupidly drop the series cause they couldn't put it on PC. It'll be the dumbest thing they could do to drop a series.
One of the very few great games I’ve enjoyed since I grabbed a ps5 on launch day. Been hard to boot it up once I played the few gems on here. Here’s to hoping they aren’t forced to ruin the sequel, I have high expectations for this and can’t wait to see what they do with it
Personally wished Yakuza would have kept the Action RPG and judgment went turn based, but they're all good games. Just don't like hitting a difficulty wall where I'm practically forced to grind. In the action RPGs I could always get by through skill alone. Also never been a fan of job systems in any RPG, unless jobs wouldn't have levels but would just scale with the character level.
@thefourfoldroot1 It's definitely a whole different thing and a lot lower octane than Yakuza, but yeah, it's a great series. And so massive. But so hard to play the whole thing between the different trilogies split on different platforms with publisher disputes. And the older games certainly can be rough to play once you get used to the newer game's QoL features. I keep just ignoring them despite wanting to get the whole story arc.
This gives me hope we’ll get a release date before 2022 ends (meaning it’ll hopefully come out in 2023). One of my most anticipated games behind the inevitable Persona 6 & FF7 Rebirth. Yakuza Like A Dragon was such a blast with so many lovable characters. I can’t wait to see what happens with the gang next. Hopefully we get more than 1 mandatory female & 1 optional female as party members too
@Nepp67 oh yeah I forgot that. Those agencies need to be less sensitive.
Man these games were weird and not in a good way. At all. Insta-pass from me
Loved like a Dragon,... Tons of fun.
Just keep those jRPGs coming. It is a flood on PS, good times.
I still need to play Yakuza 7, waiting until I can find time to play Yakuza 0 thru 6.
@AndyKazama Most of the agencies aren't as sensitive. That one just happens to be one of the infamously tightest.
Although their fear is inappropriate use of his likeness on the internet using PC assets......they're not actually wrong....
They can just keep doing what they always been doing. I enjoyed and played almost All the Yakuza &Lost Judgment games. RGG Studios always does a great job.
