Update: PS Plus owners of What Remains of Edith Finch are currently unable to upgrade to the PS5 version for free. The PS4 version was included with Sony’s subscription in May 2019, but only those who have actually purchased the game can upgrade to the new-gen re-release. While it may be easy to blame the Japanese giant here, there have been occasions where games claimed through the service have been able to upgrade, so unfortunately this does appear to be a publisher decision.
Original Story: An open secret lately has been What Remains of Edith Finch being brought to PS5 with a native port. Earlier this month, the new version received an age rating, and more recently, a PS Store page practically confirmed things for us. Now, publisher Annapurna Interactive has confirmed it's real.
Better yet, the PS5 version of the game is available right now — got to love a shadow drop every now and then. You can catch a glimpse of it in the above trailer. All we really know about the port itself is that it runs at 4K resolution and 60 frames-per-second, so it should look great on a big telly. Furthermore, those who already own the game on PS4 are entitled to the PS5 version for free.
If you've yet to play What Remains of Edith Finch, it comes highly recommended. It's a first-person narrative adventure set inside a crazy, complex house, telling the stories of the Finch family's unlucky fates. It's incredibly inventive and well worth your time.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like the PS Plus version can be upgraded
I will take any excuse I can get to replay this game! Highly recommended to anyone who hasn't tried it.
Love this game. Definitely recommend it to those that haven't played
@Voltan
Balls.
@Voltan Classic Sony, classic. Bloody hell.
Did they finally add a platinum?
Another backlog upgrade, lol. I really should give it a whirl, especially as it's so highly rated and only 2 - 3 hours long.
Cool would enjoy reliving this game all over again.
No free upgrade here.
@Gloamin that sucks game really should have had a platinum to begin with.
@Gloamin
Same problem, popped a trophy and no trophy list appeared for the game. Trophy synching seems to be broken for me as well now.
@Gloamin
Yes, I had a trophy notification (All Roads) and it even saved a video clip but no trophy list for the game appeared. When I try to sync it just thows back the NP-117622-9 Something went wrong message.
@itsfoz
That decision was the developers not Sony
Getting tired of the PSPlus upgrade nonsense
@C9906753 I’m glad they don’t auto pop as I really can’t wait to earn them all over again. That said it’s kiiiind of a bummer the list is messed up right now. I’ll wait to play until it’s fixed.
You don't own ps plus games you never bought them you just get to play them for aslong as your subscription is active don't know how people still haven't worked that out yet
@C9906753 that's what happens when the trophy list hasn't been uploaded to Sony's servers. Check sites like exophase or PSNP to see if the trophy list is on Sony's servers (PS5 games will always have a separate list).
Unfortunately I think PS5 can only show your online trophy list, so you'll always get that error until the dev uploads the trophy list. You could try turning off your network connection entirely to see if PS5 will show your local trophy list.
I was looking for an excuse to hop back into this game again.
Meh, have other games to play 🤷♀️🤷♀️ they can gamer block us with this nonsense but at this time who cares? there are so many other games to play anyways that are open world bloat lol
@Gloamin
Whether it was developers or publishers, point being it wasn't Sony like that guy was claiming
it was alright im not sure why everyone thinks this game is amazing
Darn shame! I guess I'll be waiting for a dirt cheap sale on the PS5 version.
Things like this annoy me. The publisher has made the decision to not allow people who claimed it for "free" to upgrade as they want them to actually pay for the game. The thing is Sony paid them for the game to be on PS+ they didn't lose out. They want to have their cake and eat it too and double dip. Its just greed plain and simple. So fine, I wont play their game!
Great game but I wont be paying to play it again!
@Americansamurai1 Nah if a game is great then i could not care less if it has a Platinum trophy.
@Smash41 Entitled much nobody has to give anything for free did you buy the game yes did it work and did you have fun? Why are they obligated to make a free upgrade for you?
@Flaming_Kaiser It has nothing to do with being entitled. The developer has already profited from my PS+ version through Sony paying them to add it to the service, they are double dipping. The upgrade is free on Xbox Gamepass there is no reason for it not to be on PS5 too.
@trev666 Probably because different people have different opinions??
@Would_you_kindly - I don't own the game on GP either, didn't stop MS making the updated version available day and date on their subscription service.
Oh nice! I bought WROEF years ago but never actually got around to playing it a few months ago on Switch — be nice to see how the PS5 version shapes up.
@Milktastrophe
Thanks, interesting to know.
@glassmusic
They've added 3 new trophies to the PS5 version, I found one but the other two will have to wait until they actually upload a trophy list to sync with.
Edit The trophy list is working now and they've given it a Plat.
@trev666 agreed. I've played a lot of walking sims because they always (undeservedly) get so much praise, but honestly this one doesn't stand out from any of the others.
@Shigurui because Microsoft have given them money to get it as part of gamepass Sony obviously didn't think it was worth it 🤷♂️
It's a linear walking sim with a set story that I'd assume most owners have already played once, so this doesn't seem like a big deal. I can't imagine playing though it more than once, and from what I remember of the graphics, the PS5 version can't be much different.
Came back to this game I enjoyed so much on the first playthrough but had two gamebreaking bugs within 15 mins. Deleted.
@Would_you_kindly - Did you see the money change hands? MS just seem to provide the most suitable version of the game for the hardware it's played on due to Smart Delivery.
@Shigurui so if you buy FIFA for Xbox one you'll get the Xbox series version free because of smart delivery ?
@Would_you_kindly - Who mentioned buying anything? The discussion is about upgraded versions of games obtained via a service. Fifa 22 on GPU does support Smart Delivery.
@Shigurui it doesn't support smart delivery because you can't download the Xbox one version on a series console then upgrade to the xbox series version if you want you're just downloading the Xbox series version because it's part of EA play...
@Would_you_kindly - Why on earth would you download the XBO version on X|S to upgrade it when the enhanced version is already available?
@Shigurui well you said the series version is available through smart delivery & that's not true both versions are part of EA play
@Would_you_kindly - Jesus dude you're just being obtuse now. Let's say you own Cyberpunk 2077 digital. You cannot download the original game on X|S, only the enhanced version. Same with digital Fifa. You can only install the digital version that is tailored to the system you're playing on because of Smart Delivery.
@would_you_kindly why mention Fifa as example for smart delivery when the publisher doesn't provided a free next gen update rather chooses to give 3 versions of the game? 1 for xbox one, one for xbox series x/s and the ultimate edition that includes both. Smart delivery and MS has nothing to do in this case when the developer/publisher doesn't provide a free update. Bad example. Here the publisher provided a free update witch in xbox you get it with smart delivery and in ps+ you cant, simple as that.
@Smash41 They have no obligation to you or anyone else.
@Would_you_kindly Thats why its cheaper dont you think for a price lower then a €100 a year its not weird you dont own anything.
