New age ratings from the Taiwan Game Ratings board suggest a native PS5 version of What Remains of Edith Finch is in development. Spotted by Twisted Voxel, the recent listings haven't been mentioned publicly by studio Giant Sparrow, but as is the case with today's other age rating tied to Inscryption, these ratings are very rarely ever wrong. An official reveal could be just around the corner.
You'd like to think a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade would be on offer for current owners, but since the new version is unconfirmed at the time of writing, we can only speculate. As Twisted Voxel points out, What Remains of Edith Finch on PS4 ran at 30 frames-per-second and wasn't native to a 4K resolution. As such a PS5 version could provide the indie darling with a huge graphical and performance boost.
In our What Remains of Edith Finch PS4 review, we awarded the title a very rare 10/10 rating, we concluded: "Between the most realised home we've ever seen in a game, the incredible voice work, and the moving, intriguing story, this is the genre's new golden standard."

WROEF is the first and only emotional walking simulator I ever enjoyed and finished. I know that there are a million more, but they get as repetitive as Ubisoft games and don't even get me started on all of those 5 hour long horror games. Those developers went to the Harvard class for copy and pasting.
Can't someone give a decent budget to these people?
Great game hopefully they will include a platinum this time
What a great game this is!
this was a horrible title by all means
The picture in this article gives me a hugh flashback of one of my most memorable moments in gaming.
This was a top 3 game in 2017 for me. I'd love to revisit it on PS5.
Phenomenal game. Definitely stands out amongst the pack of walking sims IMHO. Such a unique premise as well.
This game is exceptional.
My issue with these games though is that I can never replay them for the first time again.
are these people who say great game ever played good games? it's a ***** title
Really think Sony dropped the ball when it let this game go.
@OthmaneAD wrong, by all means lol
@OthmaneAD
Sounds like you just don't like the genre... doesn't mean the game sucks though.
@OthmaneAD. Stop doing drugs.word up son
@Gloamin I guess you didn't get the memo that on the internet your personal opinions are facts. I didn't really enjoy the game to be honest but that just means I must have bad taste!
Absolutely brilliant game, loved it.
Thought it was brilliant myself. I'm not really sure a PS5 upgrade is needed but could be a nice reason to replay it again
@OthmaneAD What is a good game?
And they're remastering it for the PS5 because....?
This game really f****d me up emotionally. I've never had a game impact me like Edith Finch did before. Absolute masterpiece imo. Never bought it on PlayStation, but I'd gladly pay for a PS5 version if it's at 60 fps.
I don't think this game needs to be touched up, but it is darn good and if a re-release will get more people to play it I'm all for it.
@playstation1995 😂😂
One of the very best of the genre for sure. It really hits you right in the gut.
The sequence of the fish factory worker is one of my gaming highlights from any game ever. It's a game I always use a rebuttal whenever anyone uses the term "Indie Game" in a negative way.
@playstation1995 your reply literally made my day 🤣
Loved it, will defo play through again on PS5.
Lots of mentions of great moments, how come no ones mentioned the brilliant Halloween section!
hmm, I hate to say but I can't get excited over this. I got a good halfway through the original on PS4, but then just.....disconnected from the main character, could not relate at all. I like walking sims as a general rule (been playing them since Dear Esther, which I thoroughly liked...nice and creepy) but when I can't relate to the character I just don't enjoy it. But good news for those who enjoyed it
I hate games that are solely based on walking around and discovering story by reading notes and what not. Many of them are pretentious and have no pay off at the end. But but but.....this game was special, the story was tounge in cheek and the dark humour was on point and the part with the train tunnel was so bitter sweet. Of course the fish gutting scene was the real star of the show and really resonated with me to the point where it was almost like it was holding a mirror up to me, and because of that, this game will always hold a special place in my heart.
One of my favourite games. ❤️'d this & The Unfinished Swan too!
Still couldn't find Milton there though. 🔎
@Cherip-the-Ripper. Hahaha.😄.word up son
@pip_muzz. Hahaha thanks.i had to say it.he made no sense at all.😃.haha.word up son
fantastic little game loved all the quirkiness off this story. i do enjoy these type of games chill time between the madness 🤣
@OthmaneAD relax
Whilst this is an amazing game, there is absolutely no need for it to be remade. They achieved what they needed to with previous hardware and more eye candy will not add to the emotional draw and impact of the game which is at its core.
Still, if it brings any new players to the title, then its a good thing!
I enjoyed parts but the genre of walking sim is just overdone at this point.
If this wants to take the title of best of the bunch sure, but there was little to love from the genre. Maybe it was the hype and reviews that stopped it from really hitting home.
I'd definitely think all these types of game could do a little bit more to be true gems like Obra Dinn and The Outer Wilds.
I've never been one to replay these games so it's a bit surprising they would re-release it on PS5, anyone know what they're working on next?
What remains of edith finch is one of my most favourite games of all time, but the ps4 version runs perfectly well and there's no need for a ps5 version
Preem game.
That's cool, for new players it will be a journey.
Phenomenal story telling, but definitely not a game for everyone or even considered a game by some
Hoping they release a VR version with PSVR2! Personally I loved it.
