SNK has confirmed that a new Fatal Fury / Garou title has been green-lit, and we've got the above trailer to prove it.
...What? What more do you want? That's literally it. We don't have any details whatsoever at this point — all we know is that Rock Howard's probably the poster boy. Plus, the fact that SNK is saying that the project has only just been "green-lit" suggests that it's a long way off. Hopefully we get some additional details in the coming months.
For those totally out of the loop, Garou: Mark of the Wolves is a well respected 1999 Fatal Fury tie-in fighting game (and it's available on PS4, if you fancy it). SNK is setting this new project up to be a "long awaited sequel".

23 Years later...talk about a long time to wait.
Oh yes please. Garou is one of my favourite fighters of all time alongside Street Fighter III. I hope they go for fluid sprite work like with the new Guilty Gear but I think SNK have pretty much been doing 3D games recently.
Never played it but good for the fans. I'm sure it was a nice surprise!
@nessisonett Going back to really well drawn sprites would be ideal for this. I still think King of Fighters XIII looks way better than XV.
But it's obviously much more efficient (and probably cost effective) for SNK to use 3D models these days.
I really enjoyed the original back in 2000 (-ish)!
@ShogunRok Unfortunately it's not just a matter of the amount of work. It also makes it impossible to use different camera angles during super flashes, round ends, etc - and those are kind of a must for a modern high profile game like this.
Honestly ArcSys has 100% figured out how to get the best of both worlds but unfortunately nobody else is on that level yet.
@ShogunRok
It is. But I think SNK should go with a smaller roster for this game anyway. A smaller number of more technical characters with wildly different play styles; that’s part of what makes both Garou and Third Strike so good.
Garou had a very small roster by that days standards. Let me see if I remember…
Rock, Jenet, Jae Hwoon, Dong Hwan, Terry, Hotaru, Gato, Freeman, Marco/Khushnood, Tizoc/Griffin, Kevin, Grant, Kain
That’s a tiny roster even by 1999 standards. They add a few old FF characters (Mai, Billy, Andy, Blue Mary, and a new character or two) and they could easily justify HD sprite work.
When I played Garou I mained Kain, Hotaru, and Terry.
@Voltan
I don’t think so.
They could sell it as a retro throwback to times gone by. A love letter to 90s 2D fighters. A small technical roster with amazing hand drawn sprite work.
"the project has only just been "green-lit" "
Then why announce it years before is possibly finished? 😅
Wow that's very interesting, another Smash Ultimate Fighters Pass character's franchise gets a new game.
So that leaves ARMS, Banjo and Tekken left. A new Tekken game sounds the most likely of those.
@OrtadragoonX As nice as that sounds, I don't believe that would sell well enough in 2024 or whenever that comes out, unfortunately. Retro games are niche.
You got me really sad, I was thinking there was a new Fatal Frame game in the works and then I see the next word being Fury.
Thank you SNK. Maybe there is hope for a Last Blade 3 someday.
Miracles happen.
It was awhile back but I remember the guys who made Streets of Rage 4(dot emu) had shown a drawing of Garou that they made. They really wanted to make a sequel for it.
@Juanalf so they can hire people to work on it, this announcement isn't for us
@Voltan Yeah, in a way, ASW has spoiled us with that graphics engine. I don't think anyone comes close, but I will say SF6 looks lovely so far.
@OrtadragoonX Yeah, that's a fair point. There is something to be said for smaller but more focused character rosters. For me at least, a lot of characters in KoF blend together after a while.
At the same time, though, I do think a larger roster has a certain charm, like there's always something new to discover. I suppose you just have to find a good balance.
Much as I love King of Fighters games, Fatal Fury is my true love in the fighting game genre. Mark of the Wolves is an all-time classic, but the three Real Bout games have eaten hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of my life and I love them to bits. Bring it on!
All the positive responses here makes me think people will pretty quickly not care how much of Ubisoft ends up owned by Tencent, given that SNK is owned by that Saudi prince.
@Milktastrophe That's why I commented the other day about Tencent possibly buying Ubisoft is preferable to Microsoft or another platform holder buying because at least their games will remain multiplatform. At the end of the day if most of us only bought games from companies that didn't do s****y things then we'd be playing very few games.
N.i.c.e. i got garou mark of the wolves download on my ps4 pro.its a really a good fighting game.cant wait for the sequel.word up son
Lets gooo!!! New FF game!!
@Grumblevolcano The next Tekken game was teased very recently, but no confirmation that it's Tekken 8.
