An update overview trailer for the beleaguered Battlefield 2042 has been released, outlining the changes and new content players can expect going into Season 2, what is to come in Season 3, and beyond.
Amidst rumours that the troubled shooter was in "abandon ship" mode, the team at developer EA Dice pushed forward with the release of Season 1, Zero Hour, which came to the game a full seven months after launch. Check out our video on the subject for our full thoughts on the matter.
While we don't have official confirmation, Season 2 is expected to commence at the start of September, once Season 1's Battle Pass expires. Players can look forward to a new map, a new specialist, and the inclusion of additional weapons, gear, and gadgets.
Season 3 will bring more sweeping changes, perhaps the biggest being that the controversial specialists are being rolled into a more familiar class system. The individual perks and gadgets of each will now be available to the class as a whole, those being Assault, Recon, Support, and Engineer, although the specifics are still subject to change.
Some of the classic maps will be getting overhauled, starting with Renewal in September, and Orbital in October. The changes are pretty extensive, as you can see in the video.
These look like promising changes, but whether they will be enough to right the ship remains to be seen. What do you think? Are you still playing Battlefield 2042? Drop into the comments section below.

Let it be known that Vampire Survivors, an indie game that had no marketing at all that launched only a month later, has double more steam players than Battlefield 2024. This game was such a colossal failure of the Triple AAA gaming landscape, to the point where I genuinely supported policy that would’ve made releases like these way more regulated in terms of polish. EA’s a failure
While this game does deserve hate for how it launched, I gotta hand it to Dice for actually fixing a lot of the core problems of the game and not just releasing the bp and moving on.
They're fixing maps, classes, bugs, etc. So don't just jump on the hate wagon with out knowing anything smh. I do think it'll be worth a try for most once it comes to Ea play for those who have it or on sale.
I'm now having fun with the game again, although one new map per season is a joke.
All in all, they better not f*** up the next installment else the series is over I'm afraid :/
Well they aren't giving up on it. I'll give them that.
So much for "that's not the direction we want to go" and "we have a vision where that system just wouldn't fit". Just listen to your audience from the start. The damage might already be too great.
Too little, WAY too late. This game was a molten dumpster fire upon release and has only incrementally gotten better. I can’t believe people still play this. Kudos to the devs for not just abandoning it and moving on but this game is past the point of worth saving, IMHO.
This game needs to be taken behind the shed and given the Old Yeller treatment.
Let it die already.
@RawnDawn
This game is dead.
I’ll give them credit for trying to fix it.
But they need to take it out back and end it’s existence. And move on to the next installment. And this time listen to what the fans actually want in a Battlefield game.
This game is not dead at all..we still have a dedicated evening session every week and its chock full of players and i mean real gamers not the generic bot cannon fodder which are very easy to spot..bring back team deathmatch and squad deathmatch and make them a permanent fixture and bring back the bad company 2 maps which were by far the best the series ever produced..
@OrtadragoonX Oh for sure the game isn't popular but it's in a better place now and once season 2 comes out it'll be how it should've been from the start.
I'm honestly worried about the next installment, they can't f it up but they will, even after all the complaints from bf5 and 2042 they'll ***** out a bad game and that sucks.
Battlefield was my childhood and it's ***** now but oh well, gotta take my copium and grind the bp so wish me luck friend.
Yeah that's not gonna get me to buy this thing. I shall wait for the next BF.
Its a pity that after such a long time the game is getting where it should have been on release.
@OrtadragoonX They unfortunately can't just take it out back and put an end to it existence. EA can't afford another Mass Effect andromeda or Anthem situation. They will be forced to support this game until dies of natural causes.
What's that noise I can hear, kind of sounds like some meat getting thrashed....
Ah I know, EA are flogging a dead horse.
@RawnDawn yeah nah, praising them for doing the bare minimum is exactly what's wrong with the industry lol.
@Korgon yep, Bioware should be taking notes
Bought it during the Summer Sale last month. I've really enjoyed it so far.
@Deoxyr1bose Vampire Survivors absolutely slaps though
Glad I held onto my physical copy, I think this could still become a good Battlefield game 👌
@jrt87 @Cherip-the-Ripper oh for sure, they f***ed up big time no denying that but the game is at a better state now for those who want to scratch the bf itch and if you don't want to that's fine man, I ain't forcing a gun to your head lol
@RawnDawn that's such a funny thing to say when discussing bf 😂
