A fresh look at HBO's TV adaptation of The Last of Us has appeared in a new sizzle reel focusing on upcoming projects from the company. Roughly 20 seconds of brand new footage can be viewed, including a glimpse of Nick Offerman's Bill, fungus spores taking over a wall, and Pedro Pascal's take on Joel's voice. Also part of the video is Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, The Idol, and Succession.
In response to the new footage, Neil Druckmann — who has worked on the TV show — posted to Twitter: "You ain't seen nothing yet."
This is the first official look at the show we've received since a single shot of Joel and Ellie looking at plane wreckage was posted back in September 2021. A number of set leaks have kept us updated since then, however. The TV adaptation is set to launch on HBO Max next year, but we're only a few weeks away from PS5 remake The Last of Us: Part I allowing us to experience that first tale all over again. A few of the game's bonus costumes leaked overnight.

So hyped for that! I can't still believe the amount of idiots I've seen after the new images were posted saying "That's not Ellie" like lol at least give it a chance!
"You have no idea what loss is"
He nailed it, really can't wait for this now
@AFCC
I've been saying it's gonna be good for a long time and that HBO was the right choice given their track record. I think this teaser is starting to prove me right.
Neil is not wrong, this shows nothing
Seriously though, that's definitely not a bad first look.
Makes me wonder what people unfamiliar with the games make of it - i mean, you wouldn't even have a clue it's a zombie apocalypse from this teaser.
The hype is real!
In the words of Jake Peralta... "Chills! Literal Chills!" (tried to attach the gif and failed xD)
Pedro nailed it!
Super hyped for TLOU.
@jrt87
Can't constructively criticize something you know literally nothing about though. Which is what he was calling out. I always eye roll when people try to s--t on something they have not seen or played as if they have experienced it already before it has even been released.
@AFCC From what I’ve seen, people online are mostly calling Bella Ramsey ‘ugly’ which is pretty dreadful all things considered.
So far so good. Sadly though HBOmax is spiraling downward. They have been dropping shows left and right. They claim its to help with their merger of Discovery+, but many experts refute that. I was about to join to as its 30% off a yearly price. After some research I saw many articles sharing what I stated above. Ill join for a month once the whole show is out.
Does anyone else think it looks rather cheap from a visual standpoint? I feel like a prick judging it too harshly based on like 30 seconds of footage, but the really flat lighting and boring color palette just rubbed me the wrong way. The Last of Us should have a very striking aesthetic, and I didn't get that at all with the bits they showed. It looked like yet another generic TV show.
@RBMango
Most of that teaser was in an abandoned grocery store in a post apocalypse setting with no artificial light sources.
This is shaping up to be the first truly great game adaptation.
......
Other than 1995's Mortal Kombat, of course.
If you look closely, it's not "fungus spores taking over a wall," it's a fungus riddled corpse sticking to a wall.
This is just a remake of a game we'd have had 3 times by the time this releases, just with more realistic graphics
@nessisonett Naw, the only thing I'm worried about is her playing a 14-year old, when she's clearly a couple of years older. But maybe they rewrite her age for the show so it makes a little more sense.
I want to see real ugly characters, give me a Bloater.
So were getting retold a ten year old story as a remake of the game for $70 and a show for $45 (10 episodes)?
The quality of the adaptation from game to show looks phenomenal. The creator of the show made Chernobyl and I have very high hopes for this now after seeing this trailer. Pedro Pascal absolutely is Joel spot on.
I honestly hate how quickly the line is delivered compared to the original. But will only know how it fits fully when the show goes live.
I am quite excited to see how they’ve adapted it to a show.
I love how true Pedro Pascal is to the character! He's nailing it.
Bella Ramsey too, I see a lot of negative comments about her online (and admittedly among my own friends which is sad), but I think she's great and can pull off the character really well.
The thing about Ellie is that no 14-year-old can ever pull it off you will always have to choose someone much older. She's got a complex character and if you want her to jump off the screen like she does in the game, you gotta be very meticulous with who choose. Bella Ramsey has shown she has the talent for it.
@Octane Ellie in the original game isn’t written like a 14 year old and is voiced by a then-30 year old woman. I don’t think it was really feasible to have a 14 year old actress playing the part who can carry off that level of unrealistic maturity without having actually lived through a zombie apocalypse.
I don't remember that dragon in The Last Of Us.
@nessisonett A lot of these will be adult men who had a weird crush on young Ellie, these same men we're disappointed with how grown Ellie looked in the second game so I'm not surprised to see something like this.
Is Pascal unable to grow a full beard? To me he looks exactly as he did when he removed his Mandalorian helmet.
@nessisonett Neil Druckman will even tell you TLoU does not have zombies.
@nessisonett That so sad that you target a young kid and calling her ugly which she is not. Trolls always think they have the right to do whatever they want. You can be critical towards casting but dont make it a personal thing.
@ApostateMage I think thats a stupid thing from HBOmax themselves.
@Voltan it is more accurately a fungal infection apocalypse, the infected are not dead and as such are not Zombies. So much more scary that cordyceps fungi really exist, just hasn't made the leap from arthropods to mamals yet...
Looks promising. Off course the games will always be canon for me regarding how the characters are and how they look. But HBO, the crew and actors deserve a chance, all of them already showed they are capable of creating amazing entertainment. Now give HBO God of War to work on next. Just imagine what they can do with that ip.
A God of War show with the scale and budget of Game of Thrones would indeed be promising.
It's a cash grab! We've seen it all before and putting real actors instead of computer-generated ones changes nothing. I'll watch it when HBO Max drops in price /s.
I like the casting, both really nice, especially Pedro. He was so good in GoT and Mandalorian.
I honestly don't have too much faith in it. But I do have to admit Pascal, or whatever his name is definitely NAILED Joel's voice.
I want this to be great so bad...
Sneak peek looked great, super excited for the show now!
@nessisonett Considering the amount of braindead people on this planet, most 14-year-olds have lived through a zombie apocalypse, they just don't know any better.
@nessisonett it's downright stupid and of bad taste. She is so young and seems talented but this will surely take a toll on her
@jrt87 people were only complaining because of her looks. Her acting is great so far, only 1 episode to go. There was no reason to cry like people did it seems.
