Content Warning: The below trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners features bloody violence and sexual imagery, as well as strong strobe effects.
Hey, this Cyberpunk anime is actually looking pretty darn good, isn't it? The stylishly titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners now has a 13th September Netflix release date, and the series will be ten episodes long. To be clear, this is a standalone story — it's got little to do with Cyberpunk 2077 outside of the established world of Cyberpunk.
Anyway, the trailer itself is a bit of a trip, packed with neon colours, bold animation, and, of course, some mature themes. The anime's gearing up to be a feast for the senses, if nothing else.

you lost me at anime , but then i decided to still watch so , what exactly is an anime ? Is it just cartoons that has a more realistic aesthetic to it instead of caricature or what . this doesn’t look like anime to me , just a semi-realistic cartoon.
It's a Studio Trigger anime with a cyberpunk setting. That's all I could have asked for, so I'm pretty excited for this.
@nomither6 Anime is basically just any Japanese animation. So there's a huge variety of anime, ranging from family-friendly shows such as Sailor Moon or Studio Ghibli movies, all the way to the more graphic things such as this show.
I've had mixed feelings on Studio Trigger over the years, as I feel like they're a disappointing successor to Studio Gainax overall, but Hiroyuki Imaishi is directing this, and his work is almost always incredibly solid.
Anyway, this looks edgy and absurd in the right ways. Even if the game itself turned out to disappoint, at least this seems like it's shaping up nicely.
@nomither6 Anime is just Japanese animation. That's it. It encompasses a wide variety of genres, art styles, subject matter, etc. While some art-styles might be more prevalent in Japanese animated media (just as a lot of modern American cartoons have that thin-line animation style, aka CalArts style, to them), anime isn't limited to a single look or aesthetic.
This looks pretty good. Generally Netflix has been doing well with these animated adaptions. Arcane, Castlevania (partially), Cuphead and the just released Tekken series were all really solid offerings.
Really liked Ragnarok, Castlevania and Tekken so bring it on.
@crimsontadpoles @Gloamin thanks
Studio Trigger will do more justice with the IP than CDPR did with the game.
I think this anime is more nfsw than the game. The story looks great and it's made by studio trigger, can't wait to watch it 😃
Funny how this series looks and actually feels more "cyberpunk-y" then the actual game its based on, lol.
@Coolmusic @Deadlyblack @Ralizah @crimsontadpoles @Mylo I avoided the game hard after seeing all of the reviews and gameplay at launch, but eventually bought it during a $10 sale. Still not touching it until all of the DLC has been released.
However the anime I definitely plan on watching immediately, looks dope.
@Mylo
It's a pretty good game right now especially with the PS5 version, which is night and day better than PS4. It's story and writing are generally pretty good and the combat feels good with the driving passable.
@Mylo Glad to see someone else with the same mindset about the game!
If anything the anime should give me an idea of what the game's story and world was supposed to look like.
