Dead Island 2 is apparently closer to launch than we had previously anticipated, as a leak from Amazon suggests that the long-in-development title is set to launch on 3rd February, on PS5 and PS4.
As spotted by the eagle-eyed Wario64, it seems like someone at Amazon might have jumped the gun a little bit, and updated the PS5 page ahead of a surmised possible re-reveal at Gamescom's Opening Night Live Stream next week.
A February release date strikes us as realistic, as it doesn't coincide with any fiscal quarter, and is a Friday, the traditional day on which new video games are released (at least in the U.S.).
The official description of the game, and its features, according to the Amazon listing of Dying Light 2: Day 1 Edition on PS5 is as follows:
A deadly virus is spreading across Los Angeles, California, turning its inhabitants into ravenous zombies. The city is in quarantine, and the military has retreated. Bitten, infected, but more than just immune, you learn to harness the zombie inside. Only you, and the handful of other swaggering fellows who happen to be resistant to the pathogen, hold the future of LA (and humanity), in the balance.
As you uncover the truth behind the outbreak, you’ll discover who – or what – you are. Survive, evolve, save the world – just another day in LA! The much-loved zombie saga is back with a unique formula of horror, dark humour and over-the-top zombie-slaying, spanning an epic pulp adventure.
Dead Island 2 is a thrilling First-Person Action RPG that takes players across a brand-new playground. Stylish, vibrant and flooded with zombie infection, explore iconic, gore-drenched Los Angeles. Meet larger-than-life characters. Slay countless foes in exquisitely bloody detail. And evolve to become the ultimate Zombie Slayer. See you in HELL-A!
- Dead Island 2 takes players across the most iconic locations of the City of Angels, now stained with horror, in an exciting pulp journey from the verdant suburbia of Beverly Hills to the quirky promenade of Venice Beach.
- Combat delivers the most intense, visceral and gory first-person experience possible, with plenty of weapons and tactical (and brutal) options to chew your way through the zombie horde.
- There are 6 characters to choose from, each with their own unique personality and dialogues. You can fully customize the abilities of each Slayer, with our brand-new skill system allowing you to re-spec instantly and try out the craziest builds.
- Our LA is crawling with zombies that look & react realistically. These mutated wretches are the reanimated, rotten heart of Dead Island 2 with dozens of distinct zombie types, each with their own mutations, attacks & hundreds of LA-themed variants.
- Day 1 Edition includes the Memories of Banoi Pack - Banoi War Club, Memories of Banoi Baseball Bat, Weapon Perk – balanced, Personal space skill card.

Wow I'm absolutely shocked this game looks like it will make it to the finish line! Hopefully it turns out better than Duke Nukem Forever.
I really enjoyed the first 2 games..i had dead island on the ps3 and somehow managed to get both titles free on steam for my pc and i bought both for my ps4 in a sale..looking forwards to this..
Fantastic news (hopefully)!
I'm really excited to finally see it but on PS4?
When are we leaving this generation behind?
i'm surprised this game has come back to life like this! ps4 and ps5 release is golden, price is way too much when people have been waiting so long for this game to come out, it should be a budget title really 😑😑
@Anke Probably four years into the PS6.
@OmegaStriver ps100 in the year 2030 LOL
I'm the bomb and I'm 'bout to blow up.
I'm the bomb and I'm 'bout to blow up.
February 2023 release? I hope.
SO PUMPED!
Amazing memories playing the first Dead Island with my bro.
Love Dying Light…although for some reason couldn’t get into the second one. The movement is amazing and love the idea of inside/outside vs day/night cycles…but the world didn’t grab me. Much preferred the first one which felt more…grounded? (Feels an odd word to use in a game like this)
Will 100% be checking this one out!
70$? No not paying that in ever. Although feom the sounds of it, they arent going for that old dead island 2 where all you do is repeat quests over and over and have no story.
I’m still bitter about the first games save system being borked so dying island 2 can go eat a bowl of farts.
I heard nothing and seen nothing from the game that worries me a lot.
Alot of Gamescom leaks lately, I wonder if there will be any surprises left by the time it starts lol...
i wonder if people are tired of zombie games yet , i forgot about dead island so it made me nostalgic seeing this , but i feel 0 hype for it . ..or any zombie game these days
meh
Guarantee a gamescon or game awards reveal and trailer
YES! finally! I'm so Happy to see that we're finally gonna get the game!
It probably won't be a continuation of the First Game, but i've got to reinstall the game and finish it.
Or...maybe its somehow just another part of the elaborate Goat Simulator 3 ad campaign.
@Korgon
As much as people harped on about Duke Nukem Forever, it really wasn't that bad of a game. Yeah the jokes were about as funny as the holocaust and the story was terrible but the level design was only mediocre and the gunplay was passable. There is much much worse games out there. I've played so much worse.
@PegasusActual93
Your right it's definitely not the worst game ever or anything. It's actually a small miracle it came out as ok as it was considering how rough development was for it. I was just comparing it since Dead Island 2 has also has had a very troubled development cycle.
Dead Island 2: Dead continental megacity how'd that work out
Hopefully it's better than the fairly average Dying Light 2. Although it's going to feel weird playing this style of game without the parkour system.
The first was a great game with hidden details throughout, this seems ambitious and I’d need to see it before making a judgment.
@Anke when the post covid economy at least somewhat recovers. No one could buy them at launch because of the stupid scalpers and now we're in a recession, what do you expect? Currently the only people buying them are financially privileged, be it through high income or low outgoings. No one else is going to drop half a month's rent on a new toy when the old model is still pretty well functional. A game for that old model might be justifiable as a treat, or even an investment to keep you entertained at home and not spending elsewhere, but a new console? Lol. And Sony will keep supplying as long as that's where the demand is, it's just sensible.
