As speculated following a teaser last month, NIS has officially announced Disgaea 7 for both PS5 and PS4. The latest entry in the long running strategy RPG series features a Japanese-styled Netherworld, and you play as a lazy demon named Fuji, who gets roped into overthrowing the realm's corrupt leadership.
Unfortunately, the game's only been confirmed for a Japanese release at this point. It's launching relatively soon, on the 26th January 2023. We're sure that a Western date won't be too far behind.

Didn't Disgaea 6 Just Come out Not to Long Ago.
@Areus it’s a few years old on switch in japan. The ps5/ps4 western port is less than a year old tho. Disgaea 7 is going to be multiplatform in japan.
feel like I played this game 10 or 15 years ago on PS2. Still looks exactly the same.
Looks good (I think...?) A bit disappointed that they chose to drop the 2d hand drawn style, which I always liked- but I'll keep an eye out for this. Haven't played a disgaea game since the ps2, but have always been tempted to try another...
Looks like an improvement over Disgaea 6. I’d be surprised if they can recapture of the humour of the first, third and fourth games.
I keep trying to get into this series and it never quite clicks. It starts out great, and then once they introduce the color tiles I lose track of how to not lose pretty fast.
I love the Disgaea series, as it's one of my favorites and the games often lend themselves to a lot of hours of gameplay. Disgaea 6, while with some setbacks, was still a lot of fun to me. I just hope NISA doesn't pull the year timed exclusivity crap with this one in the west, since Disgaea 6 didn't run all too well on the Switch (I've still yet to play my PS4 copy of Disgaea 6).
Also, this one is coming out almost exactly two years after the initial release of D6 in Japan, which was on PS4 and Switch then. For some reason (likely money paid by Nintendo, since it was exactly a year after that PS4/5/PC versions released), they only localized the Switch version in the west in June of 2021. The Complete version released in the west came out in June 2022.
I'll wait to see how this runs on various platforms before buying in. I'd prefer Switch, but the last game was really poorly optimized for that platform.
I'm guessing y'all will be waiting for the Complete edition a year or so after the Switch version is localized. Which is probably actually the better deal, since you get a bunch of DLC and whatnot with the base game.
I hope we get a Disgaea 2 remaster at some point. It's far and away my favorite entry in this series.
@MasterVGuides I doubt Nintendo paid for timed exclusivity for Disgaea games. This isn't Monster Hunter. Staggered release patterns for different versions of these games has been happening with this series for a good long while now, and NIS has become far more preferential toward Switch since the surprise success of D5C on Switch.
@Ralizah I doubt it will be exclusive for a year this time, might come to PS4 and PS5 on the same day.
Beside, even if it comes out a year earlier on Switch, why would you not wait a year? The Switch is dog *****, except for Nintendo first party games, I have no idea why anyone would want to play a game on it when the switch version is always the inferior version.
Look at Disgara 6. Not only did it perform very badly, but its visuals were so bad that performance mode was blurry as hell. Hell, I even thought I forgot my glasses when I tried the demo once because it looked so blurry and bad.
@GigaGaia Releasing it only on Switch for a year allows them to market it as an exclusive, and then they can double dip on PS5 with a "Complete" edition. I dunno why they wouldn't continue with that trend.
In general, I'm actually more inclined to wait for the Switch version of a game than visa versa, as I prefer the ease of use allowed by its hybrid form factor. Being chained to a TV in order to play a game is a downgrade in the experience for me. Especially with grindy games like Disgaea. I have no interest in playing something like this on a pure home console.
With that said, if Disgaea 7 is as poorly optimized as the previous game was, I'll probably skip it.
@MasterVGuides I dont mind waiting getting the complete edition is cheaper and more bang for your buck.
