The release date for uber-popular MMO Final Fantasy XIV patch 6.2, Buried Memory, has been announced. You can look forward to living a carefree life on your Island Sanctuary on 23rd August, on PS5 and PS4.
Buried Memory introduces a swathe of new content, and in addition to moving the MSQ along, making changes to PVP and including new dungeons and even a raid, the inclusion of the Island Sanctuary is probably what die-hard fans have been looking forward to the most.
Island Sanctuary is a solo activity in which players are given an island that they can shape to their heart's content, raising livestock, planting crops, building facilities, and gathering materials that can be used to craft gear for their characters.
Perhaps most essentially, players will be able to release their minions (the cute and cuddly sidekicks they may have picked up along the way) and allow them to roam freely about the island. Stardew Valley has come to Final Fantasy XIV, and we couldn't be more excited.
For the full list of content coming to the game, check out the official page over on the FFXIV website. If you are looking to dive into Final Fantasy XIV, and you don't know where to start, Square Enix has got you covered, with this informative series of starter guide videos.

These patches are as big as some mmos' expansions
This looks so amazing. I can't wait to decorate my own island. The biggest success for FFXIV lies in the fact that they are actually listening to fan feedback, communicate with their fans and value your time by not forcing you to login daily to keep up to date like some other MMORPGS do. That combined with a brilliant story keep me logging in regurarly, granted as a side game since my focus is more on sp game nowadays, but it is enough to keep me subscribed.
Getting back into this finally after taking a break from when I finished SHB. Everyone has that one game that has a hold on them, this one is it for me. Possibly one of my favourites of all time, which is impressive since I'm not an MMO person and really don't enjoy playing games with other people at all tbh. Something about Eorzea always pulls me back!
@starnivore I feel the same. I just subscribed to PS Plus Premium and have tons of games to play, but I can hardly hold the urge to return to FF XIV. I’m still at the beginning stages of Heavensward though which feels like a lot of grinding, but I’m sure many magical moments are waiting for me.
Is it worth starting ff14 from scratch?
i am assuming so, but as it has been out a while thought id check.
@stvevan I started last year and have been playing on and off for some months. You should be prepared for lots of grinding and should initially invest some time to really find your way in the world/story and mechanics. Besides that I love it though. There’s even more charm than in “regular” FF’s and a lot of freedom to find your own way and rhythm.
You probably know already, but there’s a free introduction version through the PS Store that lets you play a big part of the story. I think I played it intensively on a daily basis for about two months before I had to start paying.
@Darude84 i dont mind a grind so i will pick it up.
@stvevan if you've no friends already playing so you're not already tied to a server jump on the (probably) recommended one, it'll have an XP buff that means you can focus on the main story with minimal grind necessary.
I REALLY need that new banger in my houses orchestrion... Soken about to slap it out of the park once again. The Man never misses.
I hope they'll offer an offline version eventually in the future, like what they're doing with Dragon Quest X in Japan.
