Ever wanted to get into Final Fantasy XIV, the critically acclaimed MMO from Square Enix? It's simple! Just make sure you check out this quick six-part video series first, to get your head around the many different aspects of adventuring in Eorzea.
All kidding aside, this is a pretty cool series and a great way of minimizing the incredibly daunting prospect of jumping into an MMO as expansive as Final Fantasy XIV, some 12 years after its initial launch.
The series starts with the basics of character creation, faction selection, basic questing, and first steps, all the way through using the Duty Finder and joining a Grand Company. It's all presented in an informative, if somewhat cheesy, animated format, and Square Enix should be commended for continuing to make the onboarding process as smooth as they possibly can.
You can check out the intro above, and the first episode below. For your convenience, follow these links to episodes 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

Pretty cool for people that feel like mmos are overwhelming
FF14 I feel is the easiest MMO to just jump in any time and have fun.
I’ll watch these on Wednesday/Thursday because I’ve always been overwhelmed with jumping in FFXIV. It’s definitely my cup of tea but I’d like to not waste a lot of game time being unproductive & efficient then not realizing so for days. I’m going to the Red Sox game against the Braves tonight (August 9th) so I’m just heading to Boston and hanging there all day or I’d check them out later.
I really wish they would make a YouTube series recapping the story of Before Meteor/1.0.
I have a feeling that there is some continuity lockout for newcomers who cannot access the 1.0 story content.
This game isn't that hard to get into imo if you are used to mmorpg or rpg in general. The game itself explains a lot and the questing and leveling proces is pretty straightforward. The side things like the grand company and such i can understand people could use a guide for that.
The good thing also about FF XiV is that it is also getting more and more single player friendly. Many of the dungeons can be run with AI party members now, especially neat when playing a non tank or healer character where dungeons queues are longer. The AI is pretty good for those dungeons as well.
The story and the quests of the original game aren't that great yet, even though they already cut out a lot of filler stuff, the story really starts to pick up with 3.0 and further. With the latest 2 expansions to be by far the best story wise.
I really want to dive in the game again after I went on a hiatus around the beginning stages of Heavensward. I just can’t find a relaxed state of mind though to really go for it, with so many (PS Plus) games to play.
My one regret during lockdown was not using that time to finally play FF XIV. The estimated 200+ hour playtime is just too much to dive into now. What stopped me is that many people said you have to persevere through the first 50+ hours of the original game first, that always put me off.
Instead I unintentionally put 2000+ hours into Genshin Impact. Unintended consequences. lol.
Its cool they are doing this, even if its not really needed imo. 14 is definitely one of the easier MMOs to get into, especially with how solo focused it is, outside of Dungeons/Raids. The team does such an amazing job at making this as approachable as it possible can be, while still being true to itself.
Why do the visuals here look nothing at all like the 1990s PC MMO looking forest area that I started in when I tried to get into the game and couldn't?
Very helpful videos, will be watching these when I eventually get around to playing!
