While you can play it entirely in single player, Gotham Knights is more of a co-op, online game. However, its opening mission will feel much more familiar to fans of the Batman Arkham titles. In this IGN First video, we see the opening 16 minutes, as Batgirl investigates a murder and takes a ton of goons to task.
There’s a mix of detective work and outright combat to pour over here, although the latter half leans heavily into the action side of things. We’re not overly convinced by some of the dialogue, and all-in-all it does feel a little flat – but we imagine once you begin to add other players into the mix, the fisticuffs will become much more engaging and involved.

Didn't the PS4 version get cancelled?
Correction! It's no longer coming out on PS4.
For the record this is not in any way part of the Arkhamverse and is a new take on all the characters despite the visuals & combat being similar. Rocksteady’s Suicide Squid game is set in-univere
Love the idea of an Arkham game but with Babs though statements like this do worry me: "Gotham Knights is more of a co-op, online game."
Why do I feel like there's no hype around this game? I'm a fanatic of all the Arkham games and I have no interest in this at the moment. It just feels like an online first game.
It gives vibes of GoT legends where yeah there's a little bit of story here and there and you could technically play a few modes by yourself but is not really recommended or worth it.
@Korgon @Atreus97 It did! My bad!
I’m looking forward to the game, I’ll probably just wait until reviews come out and the game is a bit cheaper. I loved the Arkham titles but I just want to be sure the single-player is solid… the focus around “online co-op” isn’t something I care for, personally.
Holy ***** that dialog was cringey as *****. Why the hell would that goon be discussing temperatures and stuff? Jesus.
I'm still concerned about combat in this one. It looks floaty, not challenging and overall less fun than in the Arkham games (or something like Spider-Man).
PS4? I thought this studio said their game is "too cool" for it to be a cross-gen game.
@Ilovecoffee Yeah I made a mistake, it's PS5 only. Sorry about that!
Not convinced with this one, feel it will be a wait for review before ordering.
I read these comments after the article was edited and initially thought y'all were just dunking on how this absolutely looks like a PS4 game.
@DiscoStuUK Me too
Well the game was designed initially as a cross Gen game which meant the graphics would probably be based on performance of both the PS4 and PS5 hence the reason it may not look as "next gen". If this was built for the PS5 from the ground up from the get go, then it'd look different
@DiscoStuUK Er, your fish are dead.
Online co-op?
No.
Not interested.
I'll play single player.
Ok.Batman Arkham games are some of the best ever.word up son
Really can't wait for this one! It's gonna be fun Multiplayer or single player.
Still don't see why this couldn't release on ps4 & Xbox one
@Would_you_kindly because the consoles can't run it plain and simple. This is a true next gen game.
Ready for this! Can’t wait to co-op it with my son!
@Resi32 doesn't look any more demanding than Arkham knight
Love all of the Arkham games, you're all wrong the Batmobile was sick - City is my fav though.
Have no interest in this however.
@Would_you_kindly yh, looks pretty average in this video.
I want to be excited for this game but can't find any reason for the life of me. The combat looks floaty and no type of lock on is worrying. Visually, it looks like a PS3 game and, from what has been shown, the story and character interactions between the Bat family looks bland. The Arkham games are some of my all time favorites and Suicide Squad's one gameplay trailer has sold me more than any of Gotham Knights.
@Would_you_kindly Developer's are probably just tired of having to optimize the games around the PS4 and Xbox One hardware. They're pushing for this to be the biggest version of Gotham seen in video games. That means it probably going to lean a bit on CPU, and the CPU in those systems have always been a massive bottleneck.
If this was single player it would be a day one but, but it clearly being built for mp ill play it when its extremely cheap.
I really want this to be good... but the laboured voice acting and the one-dimensional combat doesn't look promising.
@PeakUnagi @Voltan @DeathByLasagna @zupertramp @Juanalf That's because Gotham Knights isn't being made/developed by the Arkham games developer Rocksteady.
Instead it's being made by Warner Bros Games Montreal, who worked on Arkham Origins.
The game looks just fine and dandy to me..i'll have it in my collection regardless of the reviews..pushsquares previous articles on this game have already been leaning towards the game being somewhat mediocre..i could be wrong but thats the impression i get anyway..so i'll be enjoying kicking the heck out of bad guys with dodgy dialogues about temperatures etc whilst the majority of you slag it off and just concentrate on the negatives..👍
@KidBoruto But Arkham Origins was great too! And had the same combat as the others.
So can't wait for this one! single, co-op....... Thus will ensure I can play while my friends are sleep.
It looks interesting...but anyway, I am a fan of the Arkham games, so maybe this will be good!
I hope they don't take the Marvel's Avengers route (which it wasn't as bad as a single player game) with a bland co-op mode.
The Arkham Asylum opening section remains the best in the entire franchise.
The video here doesn't convince me to buy the game... doesn't have that AAA epic vibe... gonna wait for reviews to find out more.
As a side note, Batgirl's suit could have had a better design, imo. She uses a lot of high tech gadgets, but her costume feels strapped together from daily items... Especially those yellow gloves, they look like some yellow rubber gloves used around the house...
She looks ready to clean up the streets by using a cleaning spray and a dust cloth.
She may not be Batman, but she looks a bit ridiculous dressed like that.
@Voltan Fair point, I just remember Origins being buggy as heck on PS3.
I’ll still likely succumb to needing my Gotham fix, just a case of choosing who is least ill-fitting to visit as. Tough choice
