Warner Bros has announced Hogwarts Legacy won't make its projected late 2022 release window. Instead, it'll launch for PS5 and PS4 on 10th February 2023. The publisher confirmed the news in a tweet, where it said the game is being pushed back because the team needs "a little more time to deliver the best possible game experience".
The hotly anticipated title — which takes place before the events of the Harry Potter books — was the subject of a State of Play livestream earlier this year, but very little in the way of official news has been shared since. While a delay may be disappointing, at least we now have a firm date to look forward to.

February doesn't sound that far off does it?
At this rate, they're gonna push back the World Cup to make way for Ragnarok
I am no big Harry Potter fan but this has all the ingredients to be a great game. The extra time suits me fine with a pretty packed line up for the close of the year, Feb might be better all round!
So just a trickle of a few AAA games left for the rest of the year now.
Probably.
Ah that's a shame as i was really excited for this for Xmas, oh well if it means a better game then fine.
Many first quarter is going to be insane
Owwww that’s a bummer! But I guess it’s for the best, we don’t want a half-assed game.
I think I'm more surprised when games don't get delayed now. Which is just as well. I'm all for devs taking their time. Still think HFW should have done the same.
Oof. My heart is broken. Not really, but still… sad to see both Hogwarts and Forspoken pushed out of 2022 this year, as they were the two games I’d been waiting all year for. Can’t wait for it either way. Oh well, 2023 is going to be a difficult year to play through. If everything on the schedule sticks, I don’t know how I’ll physically have time for all the great looking games next year.
In other news, Elden Ring is essentially confirmed as my GotY 2022 now, no contest.
How long is the game please?
So Pokemon has zero competiton for the Holidays lol
Gutted it won’t be out this year, but at the end of the day I’d rather wait a bit longer for a more polished and finished game. Anyway, probably be knee-deep in GoW Ragnarok this Nov/Dec!
... and another one gone,
and another one gone,
another one bites the dust!
Good news for ensuring the game is as polished as possible, but wow 2022 feels like it has been a very anaemic year for gaming
I'm fine with the delay. Just think it's a pity that it's not going to be out for Decemeber. Would have been a really nice getting to play on Christmas. Love watching the movies at that time of the year starting with the first on Christmas day
Saw this coming. Isn't Dead Space Feb aaswel?
@Danloaded Dead Space is late January
It seemed likelier the later the year we got. I mean, we've waited so long for a game like this, a few more months won't hurt.
Get it right!
It’s a delay but at least we have a date!
2023 is going to be seriously insane.
@Atreus97
No chance of moving the World Cup
All the back handers have been dealt out to play it where it is and in November, pathetic 😂
This was honestly the only big game of the fall I was sort of excited about. Bummer.
@Voltan ah thats alright then. I remember now that Feb was the gap in the horror winter. Calisto December, Dead Space Jan and Alan Wake 2 March. Technically this will count as a horror as Hogwarts isn't exactly a bright and sunny place XD
Don't like it but its OK. Most games are being delayed to next year now. If all games release next year that are supposed to its going to be an insane year, but yeah that's what we said last year as well and look at this year now.
No worries take your time. February isn't too far off anyway from where they were aiming for originally. Game looks absolutely incredible! I'm sure PS4/Xbox One can handle it with some obvious caveats but I am super curious to see how that Switch version is going to work!😅
Very happy with this. If there was any inclination that some time was needed they should take it.
I really feel that this game has the potential of being something really special.
i wonder how much of this is strategic versus complication related. Although I'm sure it's very much so both. However, with a franchise like this i do feel it would have been vastly boosted in sales by the holiday season alone, even if the game is mediocre which is seeming more likely.
Very true, @Dezzy70. Very much off topic, but I see that football matches this weekend in the UK will be having water breaks due to the extreme heat (by our standards). I wonder whether they will do the same in Qatar? Felt from the moment that the location of the World Cup was given, that players from less sunny/hot climates would not fair well in the exceptional heat of the Middle East. It quite literally puts teams from the likes of Europe at a disadvantage from the outset. Really looking forward to the World Cup though... and Hogwarts...
Damn I jinxed it!! 😂
Just earlier today I was discussing Hogwarts Legacy with a work colleague and he asked if it was delayed as he felt there's been next to no news and I said "Nah! seems to be on schedule".
I can wait patiently till Feb! My backlog is too crazy atm. No rush!
Also still can't believe there's a Switch version! So curious if it's native or cloud.
But ofc I'll be getting it on PS5 for hopefully the optimal experience.
This is the work of Kratos or something it’s wild how almost everything is getting delayed except GoW seemingly this year
That's not too surprising. Hopefully it's worth the wait.
OH GOD DAMN IT!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Bummer but i'm not fussed as i'll have gotham knights, call of duty and god of war to be getting my teeth into..perfect game for those long, cold winter nights..
@SinfulDestroyer It’s literally on the NLife article as well.
Nooooo. This would have been perfect as a Christmas release with all the magical feelings and stuff. Looks like we’ll be getting our wands out in February instead.
Colin was right!
Stinks but that's not too bad. If you remove the time we sleep and work, those extra two months are what, just like three weeks or something. It's fine!
Cool its not far away.this game will sell a lot of copies.word up son
Nice 4 months at the end tho, October...star ocean..November god of war then December calisto protocol and then dead space in Jan 2023 and RE4.remake somewhere there aswell 😀
Either most of these games are really going to be delayed until 2024 or these companies are setting themselves up for failure. There is just TOO much releasing in 2023 at this point. There are going to be some major games overshadowed by others leading to disappointing sales.
That's too bad this is all I had to look forward to at the end of the year. I really do not envy you guys at Push Square who have to pick a goty next year from a pool of about 100+ high quality games 🙂
The game looks fantastic so far, but I really only have time to play 1 big open world game at a time. The extra polish will go a long way. Will definitely be picking this up next year!
In the category of Colin was right....
I just made $10 from my best friend who insisted it was coming out this year. I will let him keep his money as I just knew this was never going to hit this year.
I'll go a step further and say it will not see the light of day until at least April of next year.
Any takers?
Always happy to have a higher quality game come out when I actually have time to play it . As long is it isn’t too close to Crisis Core…
Gives me more time to enjoy Ragnarok
February is tax time for me so that’s when I’ll be able to get my PS5 anyways.. sounds like a perfect first game for my system
Microsoft response: Sony paid to keep it off xbox this holiday.
Creatively this has got to be the right decision. But commercially this has also got be something of a disaster for the developers and publishers, because (a) they will miss out on the lucrative Christmas period, which would have been especially important for this particular game, and (b) by Feb folks may be baulking at spending money on games if there’s a significant squeeze on household budgets come the New Year.
Not surprised
I remember in the past year when delays were occurring and everyone was like, man 2022 is stacked. Déjà vu. If it’s needed, oh well, but all these delays suck.
Looking forward to the game, hope it turns out good.
@Fiendish-Beaver
Sort of looking forward to the World Cup much prefer it in the summer like normal.
Also it badly disrupts the English football season.
Anyway I never get my hopes up for the male England team even in the good old days.
I think the ladies showed them what real determination and dedication was in the Euros.
Called it. GoW2 gonna get delayed too imo
Defo a bit letdown about that, Xmas time is when I have more holiday booked so I like playing round that time but oh well
The power of Ragnarok. Publishers shaking in their boots.
Hahahaha wicked, it releases on my birthday if the date sticks.
2023 is looking like one of the best years of gaming ever. Time for me to start saving!
There is seriously gonna be a ps6 announced before games are exclusive to ps5. Every game is also on ps4
I've got the village dlc & Ragnarok to look forward to (:
@Icey664 they've literally just announced the release date they wouldn't have announced it when they did if they didn't know it was going to be ready
🤦🏽♂️ While many of us understand delays, repeatedly pushing games back after announcing multiple release dates (or, in this case, release windows) kills hype and creates a lack of trust and reliability.
Poor forecasting and expectation-setting is an industry-wide issue at this point and we deserve far better on that front, at the very least.
There's no reason to get hyped over release date announcements anymore. #TheBoyWhoCriedWolf
Shame but expected. They should take their time to deliver an absolute masterpiece, and I'll be there on launch day regardless. It's the only game I've been genuinely hyped for this year, and it still is in 2023. The only huge letdown is the sudden empty void for me this year, but I'll easily fill that with retro goodness.
God of War for Christmas.
Forspoken in January.
Hogwarts in February.
Sounds alright to me. It's a shame Hogwarts won't be here for Christmas, but this schedule looks solid.
Oh noooooooooo, I will just have to buy one of the other 10,000 games coming this holiday season instead!
Good thing I have a huge backlog of games + gamepass to keep me warm this fall and winter!
🔥❄️
First of all I hope they make it a great time. I'm anticipating a game like this and the timing matters less then...
This one smells like its going to be a flop
Colin was right!
lol Sounds like they have J.K issues people are going off hairy potter because of her online outbursts.

2023 is going to be expensive. A lot of great games coming in one year.
Sad news this would have been a perfect Holiday release, but this does give the devs more time to polish the game and release it in a less-buggy state.
Though we'll still be getting a Day 1 patch and future patch updates over time.
@Danloaded I think you're mixing Resident Evil 4 remake's release month with Alan Wake II...AWII just has a vague 2023 release window sadly.
@Martijn87 @Shepherd_Tallon @mrtennis1990 @Toypop @Dudeman1 @SinfulDestroyer @Lavalera @Colour @somnambulance If there are no more delays, 2023 is going to be a seriously stacked year for gaming.

@KidBoruto you are correct, apparently i can't keep next years dates straight XD
@Deljo If you hit the ignore button under my comments you'll never have to worry about it again.
Have a good one. ✌️
@KidBoruto Agreed, it would have been a perfect game for Christmas morning. It's a shame. But yeah, it is what it is.
But holy hell that's a serious list.
I think if the Breath of the Wild sequel comes next year I'll lose myself in it completely. I won't be able to focus on anything else.
@KidBoruto lol in 2021, we all said the same thing about 2022. Either way, there’s at least a few potentially strong titles out the gate.
@Danloaded Which is why I make txt file lists that keep track of game release dates! Really helpful for my shoddy memory.
@Toypop That's still just a big rumor for now, plus it's a console so didn't list it. Would be awesome if true though!
@Shepherd_Tallon @somnambulance Even if a good amount of 2023 games do get delayed to 2024+, I still think 2023 is gonna be a strong year for gamers imo.
Fingers crossed the majority of what we want to play stays on track for 2023.
