A Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta is coming first to PS5 and PS4 on the weekend beginning 16th September 2022. You will need a code to access the pre-release test for the first two days, but then it opens up for all PlayStation players from 18th September 2022 for three days. A PS Plus membership isn't required to play, but if you miss the first round of tests, the beta returns two days later on 22nd September 2022.
This is when the beta opens up to other platforms: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Designed to test crossplay, you'll once again need a code to play the first two days, but then anyone can download the client and get playing for 48 hours from 24th September 2022. Just before all this kicks off, Infinity Ward will host the Call of Duty: Next event to reveal what's next for the series. Alongside Warzone 2, there'll be a full Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer reveal.
An official Call of Duty blog post says the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta includes "a robust multiplayer experience going beyond the core 6v6 experience with a variety of meticulously designed maps of various sizes, and an equally impressive set of modes, progression experiences, and other aspects". One of the maps you'll get to play on is the new Marina Bay Grand Prix, which simulates a shootout at an F1 track. You can watch a flythrough of it in the video above.
Playing the beta will unlock "a number" of in-game rewards for the full title, which are yours when you boot the full thing up at launch on 28th October 2022. If you've already pre-ordered the £99.99/$99.99 Vault Edition, though, you'll be able to play around with all four Red Team 141 Operators and the FJX Cinder Weapon Vault in the beta. You also won't need to worry about sourcing a beta code since the most expensive version bundles in instant early access to the pre-launch test. Either way, PS4 players must pay more than they did for Call of Duty: Vanguard.
With the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta now confirmed to be just over a month away, where are your hype levels at for the overall game? Don't forget team is your ultimate weapon in the comments below.

I haven't enjoyed these last 3 very much. The disbanding lobbies, no map voting and awful match making makes every game a chore. It's old social aspect is all but ruined by disbanding lobbies. It used to be fun having banter with the same people over a few games, then making friends the old fashioned way of having a laugh together. Playing with my clan is great but not everyone is on at the same times. Why they have made it so hard is beyond me
Activision can get f****** no way am I paying £70 for cod especially after getting ripped off with modern warzone 2019
@Would_you_kindly ripped off by the best cod in years?
Would you kindly move along to another article. Thank you.
I'm just looking forward to seeing the campaign. Love MW campaigns the best.
For the multiplayer, I'm not sure if it's for me but we will see. Always prefered the first MW over the second and third.
The Marina Bay Grand Prix map looks really nice but I think that for a lot of maps and then when I actually play them, they never feel as good as CoD4 maps did. Have my best memories with those.
@Would_you_kindly Funny how playstation get ridiculed for the £70 price tag but nothing gets said about this game being £70, why, just because its cod
It’s losing all the marketing exclusives like this that has Sony so scary. Seething.
Can’t wait to see how Xbox treat cod in the next few years…if they’ll start locking PlayStation gamers out of modes for a year or so whilst still charging them £70. If they’ll go back to getting dlc early. If they’ll get exclusive betas/skins etc…
It’s all these exclusive extra perks that end up swaying casuals from one platform to another when it comes to giant multi platform games. There’s a reason why Sony pushed so hard for exclusive marketing rights all last gen…and Xbox the gen before that.
Add to that the difference between £70 and day 1 gamepass… unless cod suddenly loses the ability to sell…xbox gonna be laughing
@UltimateOtaku91 No, because Sony is a platform holder…the leading platform holder. And when the leading platform holder is fully committed to £70 games do you think this is an encouragement to AAA money hungry publishers…or a deterrent?
I’d also argue the ones that get ridiculed are the simpletons who defend paying more for cross gen games…which on here there were plenty…and not because of multi platform games.
@Jacko11 No good being the best cod if you can’t play it!
Everytime they updated warzone (which was a forced download with MW) they deleted the sp campaign…forcing you to constantly have to reinstall and download texture packs etc. Thus resulting in MW 2019 being one of the worse cod experiences…I know it certainly put me off from buying the game going forward.
@Would_you_kindly better than cold war and vanguard, although cold war is better than vanguard.
@gingerfrog Cold War has map voting...
I seem to spend so many hours playing Demolition it makes it good value despite the price, the bloated file size, the poor matchmaking. Do wish Dice sort out battlefield to make it a contender again.
@Jacko11 when they force in their free to play battle royale & basically make the whole game you actually payed for an additional add on that you have to download seperately & break stuff & bloat the game with every mandatory update for warzone yeah they definitely ripped people off that don't care about warzone
@UltimateOtaku91 exactly the fact that it's £70 not only for the PS5 version but also the PS4 version is stupid if I don't want the ps5 features why do I need to spend the extra tenner
@Bleachedsmiles Activision will soon be owned by Microsoft so let's see if the super consumer friendly tech giant will reverse the decision to increase prices for games like cod or not
@BartoxTharglod yeah There's no PS4 or Xbox one only version you have to buy the cross gen version
@hoffa007 modern warfare itself was great my favourite cod since mw2 however the fact that once warzone launched it became basically dlc to the battle royale mode & like someone said when they'd update warzone it would delete modern warfare & you'd be forced to redownload all the add ons to play it just made it not worth playing
@UltimateOtaku91
It’s never been just Sony. Even Ms does it.
It’s the internet muppet show that’s what it is haha. 🎻👻👺👹
(I’m one of the guys on the balcony)
@Bleachedsmiles you think over 100 million people are going to ditch PlayStation for Xbox because of cod ?? 🤣🤣🤣
@Mikey856 No. why?
