Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is coming to PS5 and PS4 in Winter 2022, and while we don't have a firm release date, one may be fairly imminent, as the title has just been rated for classification in Australia.
The Australian Classification Board awarded the game an M for violence, which seems appropriate, given that its plot is largely concerned with genetically engineered super soldiers, who wield big swords of various shapes and designs.
Much more than just a remaster, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion features entirely enhanced visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, improved character controls both in and out of combat, UI upgrades, and various other quality of life improvements.
We're itching to get our hands on this one, and hopefully, we won't have to wait too much longer. Did you play the original Crisis Core on PSP? Relive those memories in the comments section below.

Just for clarification, they never said it’s coming out “late 2022”, they only said “this winter” which is about the last two weeks of December all the way through March 2023, so I really don’t think it’s coming out this year.
@IOI You are correct, I've updated accordingly
This would be a great December release. I’d be so pumped playing this during the snowy season. But it could be a 2023 release. We’re gonna be eating well with FF the next 2 years or so.
@CWill97 @IOI As lovely of a December release as this would be, I suspect it'll be dropping sometime in Jan-Feb, March worse case.
Hopefully not March, that's when all of the publishers drop their games last minute due to a fiscal quarter ending around then.
December would be amazing, would be a great holiday game. I'll likely grab this on Switch, assuming the performance isn't too poor
@IOI a bit weird definition of winter if you ask me, but I guess that all depends on where you live.
Anyhow, when they say winter, to me it’s a clear signal it’s not due this year. I’m betting early 2023.
As for the game, yeah, it was easily the best game on PSP in my opinion, and a shame it never got a re-release on the Vita. So looking forward to this a lot
@Jeaz that's kind of the "official" (astronomical) definition - winter (in northern hemisphere) is the time between the December solstice and March equinox.
I'm sure it's a much more loose term to game publishers though.
@Voltan as someone living where it’s actually winter I can’t say the astronomical definition is used, well, ever. Metrological winter (when it’s actually cold) is more relevant for us.
Then again, by that account a country like Greece would never call anything winter and never get to experience Crisis Core.
So let’s just agree that giving a game the release window “winter” is a horrible decision. Especially considering half of the globe calls the same months summer. Or maybe when they delay the game until June next year then can say, we didn’t say who’s winter.
@Jeaz I think the most common understanding of "this winter" would be December-February and they might wanna use "holiday 2022" instead if they meant December - so it's probably early 2023.
@Voltan yeah. If you go by dividing the year into equal 3 month chunks, I’d also call Dec-Feb winter, which what I reckon Square Enix is thinking of.
@Jeaz @Voltan Some companies interchangeably use winter and holiday to mean the same thing like the US trailer of Sonic Frontiers in the Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcase says "Holiday 2022" meanwhile the Europe trailer say "Winter 2022".
Given the Square Enix lineup so far I think November 18th, November 25th or December 2nd are the most likely release dates.
@Grumblevolcano Guess we'll know soon enough - TGS maybe?
It being rated by Australia and the ESRB gives me hope that it'll release in December. It would be real nice to end the year with some remastered Crisis Core goodness.
