After weeks of age ratings going live and the PS Store basically leaking the whole thing, Tactics Ogre: Reborn has finally been announced. Square Enix took to social media to officially unveil the project at last, and it did so with the above launch trailer.
"Arise, and revive your legacy," reads the publisher's tweet, confirming the remaster's release date to be 11th November 2022. Coming to both PS5 and PS4, Tactics Ogre: Reborn "features updated game design, fully-voiced cutscenes, improved graphics, and sound".
It's also being released physically and digitally. A digital premium edition will be available too, and pre-ordering from PS Store entitles you to a mini soundtrack, with three songs from the game.
Bit of a relief to have this one out in the open, isn't it? Are you excited for Tactics Ogre: Reborn? Strategise in the comments section below.

Colin will be happy
Hopefully they re-release the Final Fantasy Tactics games after this too.
Was hoping for a proper modern remake, not yet another "HD" 2.5D game. Infact it's not even that it's like a basic HD port. Il pass
Fully voice acted. That alone is enough for me to buy this day one.
@Master_Shake Genuinely asking; Voice acting is a day one purchase decision factor for you? it's curious how some of us tend to care about certain things, to me fully voice acting is 0% important since I'm not a native english speaker (among other things like I found majority of English voices so 'fake') and don't really care about voicing but translation. I guess if I were native english speaker would matter for me as well. I think is a matter of how you consume games.
It’s finally happening! Can’t wait! Now the deliberation begins: do I go for the Switch version for the pretty little box or digital for my PS5?
@somnambulance I’m happy to see someone else have the same thought! I’m leaning toward Switch because of my current life situation and work. But I’d love to earn the trophies for this on PS5!
Can someone explain why companies announce games with release dates yet don’t make the game available to preorder physically? I type in “TAC” on Amazon and Tactics Ogre Reborn is the top search, yet it’s not listed yet. You’d think Square would want to capitalize on the immediate hype. But why would I expect them to do anything that makes sense I guess. This is Square after all. Remaking Live a Live before FF6, remaking Tactics Ogre before FFT, remaking Chrono Cross (poorly) before Chrono Trigger. Nothing they do makes sense. It’s like they hate money.
@Qu1n0n3z It matters in this case because it is an old school JRPG. I would read everything and imagined the voices and emotions. To have the entire thing voiced seems like it will add newness to the experience. I think highly of the game in general so adding something to make it feel fresh just takes it from a sale to a day one.
I have started Tactics Ogre: LUCT twice on PSP and really enjoyed the start but always been side-tracked and stopped. Perhaps third times the charm? It was one of the best rated games on PSP.
@Niktaw The scope and budget of something mostly unknown like Live-a-live is a lot smaller than remaking something truly beloved like FF6 or Chrono Trigger. I hope when they finally do so they will do the originals justice.
Chrono Cross wasn't a remake it was a simple remaster, and a bad one at that, not anything like the same scope as a remake.
But I agree i'd love to see them sooner rather than later.
A week after Harvestella, the weekly game streak seems to be continuing:
Front Mission 1st remake - Summer 2022
The DioField Chronicle - September 22nd
Valkyrie Elysium - September 29th
Nier Automata (Switch version) - October 6th
Star Ocean The Divine Force - October 27th
Harvestella - November 4th
Tactics Ogre Reborn - November 11th
Dragon Quest Treasures - December 9th
Crisis Core - Winter 2022
Judging by this it feels like Crisis Core will be November 18th or 25th.
@Master_Shake 100% agree with you! can't wait to try this.
Day one buy, looks beautiful.
@Grumblevolcano this list is absolutely nuts. I don’t know how they expect to make money with a release schedule so packed. Not only that, but releasing everything so close to other big games like TLOU, GoW Ragnarok and COD (I know the audience crossover isn’t exactly one-to-one, but there’s definitely some.) I love square Enix games and I really want to support a lot of these series, but I only have so much time and money to spend.
I'm so glad they didn't redo it with that ugly hd 2d style. And a physical copy available? Day one
So it's just a remastered PSP port. Hopefully the pricing is reasonable. $20 would be ideal, I think.
Live-A-Live was $50, but that was a ground-up remake of the game in the HD-2D style.
Yessssss this looks like awesome-sauce! Bringin’ that FF Tactics nostalgia.
@Shstrick
I imagine this game wasn't exactly the most costly to develop. They can recoup their budget for it very easily even if it will take longer than usual.
@PegasusActual93 true! Good point
Great! I'll buy day one and hope the reception and sales can estimulate any move from SE about FF tactics.
@somnambulance Switch!
@Grumblevolcano Winter 2022 extends into early 2023 though. I expect that Crisis Core will be released in early 2023 so that they can space their releases out more.
Can we get Knights of the Lodis next??
good news, although it looks blurry. hopefully that nasty smooth filter can be turned off! how much will this cost physical is the big question now along with the performance of this port... as we saw with the chrono cross remaster, s-e is not in the business of putting the effort in.
What's this selling at?
Not much of a rebirth, more like a port
For me a $40 price tag is fair for this HD port, any higher than that is outrageous.
My God they are charging 50 dollars US for this port?! Jesus, Sony/Square. Sony is just completely out of touch with their base and concerns on their pricing of remaster/minor upgrade resells that continue to fuel the cash grab trend and discourse on it.
This is a decades old title, yet looks largely the same. An HD port with voice acting on a game that originally released in 1995, should be 20-30 dollars tops.
@Grumblevolcano Square Enix is showing mastery over the art of a release schedule at the moment. Never thought I’d say that, but I’m thoroughly impressed with their output this year.
Honestly it looks exactly the same, with voices and cutscenes. Not playing the same game again, the emotional impact is gone.
@Master_Shake the more time that goes by (or the older I get?) the more voice acting is important to me. It’s really almost a complete deal breaker now if there is no voice acting.
Can't wait to play this. SE has been bringing the goods, both with nostalgia and new games.
@Grumblevolcano I'll only be buying Crisis Core day one from that list, will be waiting for sales on the other games.
