Update: Bandai Namco has confirmed that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot on PS5 will be a free upgrade if you already own the game on PS4.
The publisher has also released an official comparison video, which showcases the visual upgrades in Kakarot's PS5 version. You can find it embedded in the tweet below.
Original Story: Bandai Namco has announced Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot for PS5. This is going to be a graphically enhanced version of the action RPG, which released on PS4 in 2020. It's got much more environmental detail — to a noticeable degree, going by the publisher's Tokyo Game Show presentation — and it'll seemingly run at 60 frames-per-second (the PS4 original is capped at 30).
The PS5 version of Kakarot is scheduled for 2023, and it'll launch alongside a second season of DLC. Three story-based expansions are planned, including one that follows the tale of Bardock as he looks to protect his home from the maniacal Frieza. It looks great in the trailer below.

@ShogunRok Is the DLC PS5 exclusive or is it also coming to the PS4 & Switch versions?
Hope it's a free upgrade.
@TowaHerschel7 Sounds like the DLC is coming to everything. I'll update this article as soon as I have an English press release to go off.
Shame it doesn’t seem to be the updated storyline of Bardock from the Super manga.
Will we be able to bring our saves over from the ps4 version?
Updated the article with confirmation that it'll be a free upgrade if you already own Kakarot on PS4.
@swagbag7 @Snake_V5 See my above comment!
@cschene No word on that yet, unfortunately.
Didn't think this game would get more dlc but this looks cool. Will probably get em all in a clean swoop when it's done
Started it last week, already 10 hours in (playing on PS5). Quite fun, actually, I'll just keep going and finish it, I guess. Maybe I'll revisit next year (especially if the Platinum is fun to unlock).
@helbertpina I thought the plat was good fun. When I finished it I didn't have much left to do for it anyway.
Finding and using the balls got a bit tedious. But it's okay
Oh wow... New Story content and a Free PS5 upgrade. Done deal
Liked the base game, but lost track of it after I finished it. This will bring me back for sure.
I've beat the game twice but to be honest I regret going through it a second time. The novelty certainly wears off. The combat is super shallow and it really shows with multiple playthroughs. If you haven't played it before and are a fan of Dragonball it's def worth a shot but I can safely say I will never play this again
I knew waiting on this would pay off lol. Got the disc used so I’m glad it’ll upgrade. Will dive back into it (didn’t get far)
Glad I never got the PS4 version. Now I can play it in 60fps!
Nice and all but i already played through and beat it and while it was OK, the combat was getting very repetitive by the end.
@Snake_V5 ?? the title of the article is, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Gets Free Upgrade . so why ask if its free? when its clearly free.
@kenshin4ever I asked before they updated the article.
Bought digital and enjoyed never finished though so this is dope to hear especially with news of another season pass. With the 1st DLC pack being for one of my favorite characters in DBZ. I'm willing to bet one of the dlc packs will be about super hero
Wow I never thought I would see new DLC for dragon Ball Z kakarot and it will come with a free next gen upgrade which means I'll be able to play the Xbox Series X version and experience the whole story in 4k HDR 60 FPS I just hope they include New game Plus that has been highly requested for a long time I currently own dragon Ball Z kakarot for Xbox One PS4 and Nintendo switch but they need to show some love and add the entire dragon Ball GT story expansion
