Regular readers will know that we've been waiting on this one for a long time. Two Yakuza spinoff titles, Kenzan and Ishin, never made it West despite fan demand, but the latter, localised as Like a Dragon: Ishin! is finally sailing overseas in February 2023. It'll release on both PS4 — its original console, alongside PS3 — and PS5.
A quick summary of what Ishin! actually is: it's essentially Yakuza set in feudal Japan, with familiar faces from the main series popping up as historical figures. It was very positively received by Japanese fans back in 2014 (!).
Is Ishin! your kind of game? Pull a stern Kiryu face in the comments section below.

I need to go on life support after today😭
You know, after the disappointment that was Farmville Direct today, this is very much appreciated.
Thank you RGG.
Dang, I was kinda hoping for Kenzan first. That game was my favourite in the series back when it came out, so I'm eager to play an updated version to see how well it holds up.
Still, Ishin is the only entry I haven't played, so this is still great news.
Let's go! I've been waiting a long time for this!
This could be my first PS5 day one or pre-order.
Finally! I wish they kept it as Yakuza instead of Like a Dragon, but super cool!
Weird as it was seeing Kiryu kill it looked really good. Glad to see Akiyama and Majima make an appearance too
Welp gotta go change my pants!
I thought I was out...
Best news I’ve heard all day
Good stuff. Can never get enough of Yakuza games. Still waiting on Dead Souls getting the same treatment though.
State of Play really dropped that trailer like Majima dropping a watermelon on the table... I'm so ecstatic! Thank you SEGA for bringing this gem back outside of Japan
My wallet will be on fire in the coming years. This and the Ronin game are the highlights of SoP
The "Like a Dragon" name had me worrying that this was going to be turn-based, but good to see it's the old beat em up combat
My body is ready
@PlayStationGamer3919 Sorry if that's a bit unclear — the article is pointing out that the original Japanese release was on PS4 and PS3. This Western release will be on PS5 and PS4, to be clear.
One of the best news I've seen today. Been waiting for this one to get a Western localization and we finally get it next year.
YEEEESSSHHHH!! I played it in japanese, was awesome, don't know what the heck was going on.
Aww, I'll buy it to support RGG but I would have preferred a new entry since I've already beaten this.
It's a ***** remake too? Count me in
Cool.i been wanted to play this.word up son
@RicebinBernacky yeah I wouldn't worry. They're just unifying the name across the east and west. Wouldn't be surprised if Yakuza 8 drops the Yakuza entirely tbh.
I shouted with joy when I saw this. I have been waiting for this for so long.
Omg I'm cooming bruh, this is sick
Been wanting to play this game ever since i played the demo ps4 jp version, now i can wait for this new version, love RGG studio
One of my favorite highlights in the presentation.
By far my favorite part of the SoP. Couldn't see it live since it was so late, but i just watched it and wasn't expecting this to show up before the RGG showcase this afternoon. Can't wait for this and Yakuza 8 which will probably also will be announced this afternoon, instant day 1 for me, RGG never dissapoints me
Sega, I love you! I would have been content with a localisation, but a proper remake has me blown away. I hope this does well enough to let them redo kenzan and perhaps even the PSP titles as well. Team RGG is amazing.
Just watched the whole 5 minute trailer- holy **** it looks incredible. This has so much damn potential. Easily in my top 10 most anticipated games for next year.
I can tell everyone is really hyped about this, hopefully should be a great experience.
