The sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon will be called Like a Dragon 8, and it'll release for PS5 and PS4 in 2024. It's a while off, then, but at least we have the fantastic looking Like a Dragon: Ishin! to keep us occupied next year.
The big talking point here, though, is that previous series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu is back, and he's seemingly being pushed as one of the game's main characters alongside Like a Dragon hero Ichiban Kasuga. And yes, he has a completely new haircut, but RGG Studio isn't ready to explain why just yet. Mysterious.
The developer says that Like a Dragon 8 may be the biggest game it's ever made, which would explain the elongated development cycle. It's going to be another RPG, like its predecessor, but we're yet to see any gameplay.
Are you hyped for Like a Dragon 8? Bring Kiryu along with you to the comments section below.

Last Gen will never end huh?
Whatβs the LaD7 prequel with kiryu that was announced for 2023? Anyone been able to translate the title yet?
@darkswabber Its Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man without a Name
Releasing this on PS4 and X1 in 2024 is wild to me tbh
CHOTTO MATTE YO! Kiryu's back? NANI?!
@darkswabber Like a Dragon Gaiden: The man who erased his name
I know a lot of eyebrows are being raised at the last gen versions, but tbh Jrpgs have always been kind of slow to get off cross gen. Persona 5 released on PS3 in 2017 from this same publisher.
Kiryu is a big BTS fan
ps4 in18month time? going to be noticeable on the ps5 version.... look at tekken8 visuals thats ps5
Kiryu's haircut looks interesting to say the least.
With all these announcements, I've got some catching up to do with the series.
Hoped to see more of it, but considering its coming in 2024 explains a lot. Good to see that Kiryu story isn't over yet and hes back. Hes such an interesting personality and can't wait for this one!
Gives me plenty of time to play Yakuza 0-6, Like A Dragon, Judgment 1 & 2. All sitting in my backlog...
Kiryu and Ichiban teaming up? This will be Legendary!
I can't get over how weird it looks seeing Kiryu with that hair.
These dudes really cannot stick with a naming convention eh?
I like that they're honoring the original name, but its weird that they skipped 7 and now it's "Like a Dragon 8" ?!
I like the like a dragon series.
2024? Dafuq! So when's the next Judgment game coming out then? A year later after that or maybe two? Geez that takes way too long.
Hearing the voices of Nanba, Adachi and Saeko makes me happy. I hope they'll all stay a team and not got dropped for boy band Kiryu.
It is a damn good time to be a Yakuza fan.
I like how Kiryu's face is still the same when he's supposed to be around 60 lmao π
YES!... it is raining amazing games. And now my list has something for 2024 on it. Love it.
Keep games coming to PS4. Not every Yakuza fan has cash for new hardware (or even want one). For a turned based jRPG, it will look good regardless.
Hey would you look at that, I was right about them finally dropping the Yakuza name.
@GorosBat It's amazing what a trendy haircut can do!
@ShogunRok It's almost as if it can shed over 20 years off your life, I hope Sega share this technology with me when I turn 60 in 35 years so I don't have to go to a plastic surgeon, I will need to get a hair transplant because I will 100% be bald by then. ππ€£
@Athrum Yeah it's overdue but they handled it in the clunkiest way possible.
Yakuza 6
Yakuza: Like A Dragon
Like A Dragon 8
???
Should have been either Yakuza: Like A Dragon 7 or Like A Dragon: Yakuza 7
If it's turn based combat I'm all for it.
I still havenβt beaten 7 yet. I kinda fell off on the series.
So much for leaving Kiryu behind, lol. His new hairstyle though, I get that people age and all but...well it will take time to get used to it.
Either way, nice to see him again.
Well they sure ruined Kiryu with that ugly haircut :/. It's like they slapped Sugiura's hair style on top of Kiryu's head.
Itβs exciting but also a bit daunting how many great games there are in this series to play. With more on the way.
A nice problem to have!
@DTfeartheBEARD lol you will be skeleton and bones by the time you finish π€£π€£ good luck
@huyi True π€£π€£. I'll definitely have to take a break between games and play other things, or I'll be burned out lmao. I am almost done with Judgment 1, so I should get back on that soon!
2024 and we will still be getting PS4 games. Regardless, still hyped for this!
@DTfeartheBEARD I still have to finish lost judgment lol keep your game up! there never is enough time ππ
@huyi Haha I'll try. It doesn't help that I recently upgraded to PS Plus premium. I already downloaded about 12 games that I'm interested in, and feel the need to complete those (Game Pass games included) before there removed from the subscription services. As a kid, I would have been amazed at so many different options of games to play at any given time. I'm thankful for it but sometimes I feel overwhelmed with so many choices lol.
@DTfeartheBEARD oh oh, someone is in trouble... Plus extra is just as bad but premium? And completing multiple 100+ hours games, you need to be on top with a situation like that π°π
With all the free time we had as kids I think we take it for granted honestly,
I went download mad with extra too, but I'm keeping it safe I know some games can be a time sink and I want to fairly have time to play the games I download, I'm probably in a better situation than you right now, spouse abroad and nothing to do at this time so I'm getting my hours worth and enjoying it, but next year we are in trouble with all the new games plus I have eye on the psvr2 aswell, adult life is more tiring π±
@huyi I'm probably in a better situation than most, since I work from home and my consoles are on my desk near me at all times. Plus I usually have free time throughout the day in between work to get a few gaming sessions in.
I agree, the rest of this year and next year are packed with games I'll be buying day 1. RE 4 & RE Village are kinda motivating me to get a PSVR2. But we will see.
To be fair, I upgraded to 90 days of premium for $15 to try it out. If I like it enough, I'll renew my subscription for another year...
@DTfeartheBEARD I'm willing to upgrade in January next year for certain, extra has definitely been value for money!
Your setup seems ace, working from home is a bonus, manage the time well but make sure you have balance πͺπͺ
Same for me resident evil 4 remake, psvr2 resident evil village will be awesome and n01 reason I want one plus there are other games I want for the headset, it's a shame that some older psvr titles are not BC with the psvr2 headset, but I do believe it will be very immersive!
I wonder if this will combine turn based combat for Ichiban and action based combat for Kiryu. It wouldn't make much sense for Kiryu to be engaging in turn based combat.
Cant wait π
@IonMagi my thoughts exactly. we are talking about ps4 games well into 2024 at this point which is 4 years into the current gen! i'm not sure there will be a true ps5 console cycle this time around... while there will be a fair number of ps5 exclusives no doubt, i have a feeling that some publishers will support ps4 all the way through which means we won't see them take full advantage of the ps5 hardware necessarily.
Zero reason to get PS5, happy with my PS4 pro
@DTfeartheBEARD better set aside about 600 hours. You got a loooong road ahead.
@DTfeartheBEARD Same here, just too many good games these days to play thru lol. My backlog keeps growing every year.
