Here's a surprise announcement for you: Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is a brand new Yakuza title from RGG Studio. It takes place between Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, and Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and explains what happened to Kazuma Kiryu.
It's being described as a slightly shorter experience. Bigger than the Lost Judgment expansion, The Kaito Files, but smaller than a standard Yakuza title overall. It's an action game, meaning that it'll utilise the series' traditional action combat, and it's coming to both PS5 and PS4 in 2023.
In part, Like a Dragon Gaiden is meant to introduce new players to Kazuma Kiryu, who will play a major role in Like a Dragon 8, which is scheduled for 2024.
Are you ready for the return of Kiryu? We mean, er, Joryu? Leave your identity behind in the comments section below.

So much for leaving Kiryu behind, but honestly... I'm excited for this.
After I’m done with LaD (which I’m currently playing) and dead souls I’m finally caught up with the western releases of the franchise.
Glad we are getting 3 new games.
I wonder if the launch of this dictates the eventual launch of Like a Dragon 8. Always happy with more Yakuza lol.
Edit: saw the article for like a dragon 8 in 2024 now
"It's an action game, meaning that it'll utilise the series' traditional action combat, and it's coming to both PS5 and PS4 in 2023."
PERFECT! Thank everything holy. Sorry, but really do not like the turn-based gameplay of LaD.
Looking at the trailer, tears at my heart a little that it seems Daidoji and his ilk have control over Kiryu essentially.
3 new Yakuza titles over the next couple years, that's the best recent gaming reveals for me. Plus Rise of the Ronin has huge potential to be something special and of course Ragnarok. Just hoping Rise of the Ronin gameplay ain't some souls like bullcrap
Not going to lie, this RGG Summit was perfection. Dead excited for all 3 of these games. Yakuza fans will be eating well the next couple years.
Good to see another Yakuza action game and Kiryu's story to not be over yet. I guess i now have a complete new top 3 of most anticipated games with 3 new games being announced, great day to be a Yakuza fan.
The more the better. He’s so much better a character than Ichiban, although I hope the latter grows on me.
Story has me quite intrigued.
Love Ichiban, as per my avatar, but yess this is so awesome.
This is a Mickey Mouse name 💀
(Still hyped)
Interesting! This is not how I expected RGG studios announcements to go this week at all. I thought it was just going to be Yakuza 8 and maybe a localized remaster of Ishin. Instead we are getting a remake of Ishin, Yakuza 8 starring Ichiban and Kiryu, and a prequel game starring Kiryu once more? Sounds good to me!
I'm really excited for this but I kinda wish they left Kiryu alone. They should've killed him at the end of 6.
They won't let Kiryu retire in peace 😭. But holy cow have I got so much to catch up to, I'm only up to Yakuza 4 right now as I have made it my mission to platinum/100% achievement every single Yakuza game, guess it's time to start investing time into these games again as I take these announcements from Sega telling me to hurry the heck up and buy more Yakuza games or face the wrath of spoilers and FOMO 😂
Cool more yakuza is always welcome.definetly getting this game.word up son
@ShogunRok: My thoughts exactly.😄
So much Yakuza goodness. I’m so happy. Especially with PSVR2 impressions also being released today. Plus, I’m off to see Harry Mack now. Good day.
@GorosBat
I gave myself the same mission last year, and all I’m missing now is Ishin and Dead Souls. At least I can get one of those ticked off soon.
For the plats you’re hitting the worst in 3 and 4 in my opinion, just in terms of combat and mini game handling in the remasters, plus 4 is so tedious in its story. You can look forward to 5 though, that’s my personal favourite, although it’ll take the longest to plat at about 200hrs.
Yesterday and today is like Christmas to me. So many good announcements! Feeling like Sony e3 2015.
What, it's gonna be a step backwards back to being a beat em up!? Didn't they announce a while back that the Like A Dragon games would be RPG's and Judge Eyes would be beat em ups?
Nice! Would be a fresh release from Yakuza like a dragon, I'm in for some brawling, and I'm also excited about the ishin release to the west finally! Off to read the article 😃😃
@GorosBat 100% all Yakuza games? Lol good luck with the mini games, both 3 and the dancing mini game will kill you straight 😰😂😂
I have plat on almost all games, wouldn't have time to play them all lol
@ShogunRok they can't leave the star of the show just yet 😂😂
I’ve only played 0 & LAD. I want to play more. This looks so good though
this franchise is not going away anytime soon! that is fine by me, but i hope they mix up the gameplay a bit more to breath new life into the property. also, ps4 appears to be heaviliy supported well into 2023 and beyond. when will the ps5 console cycle officially take off? 2024 — 4 years after its launch?
Happy for the fans! I still need to get around to playing this series.
