A new slice of God of War Ragnarok gameplay has been uploaded today as part of Game Informer's exclusive coverage, focusing on the new weapons and abilities included in the follow-up to the 2018 iteration. We get a look at a new enemy type called Grims, and a few new skills involving ice are shown off. Shields look to play a bigger part in combat this time around, with attacks designed around them like slamming one into the floor.
More coverage is expected next week as the website states it has four minutes' worth of gameplay to share. New shield mechanics and signature moves were also recently unveiled. What do you think of this latest look, though? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

I have to say, the more I see of this game the more excited I get.
Wish they would’ve had the game audio in this video. Maybe it’ll be included elsewhere soon.
This reminds me a lot of Uncharted 4 in the way the combat is being expanded. Bigger arenas, more options, more verticality. Combat in this game could be something really special, because GoW (2018) was already fantastic fun.
The Game Informer youtube page shows the airing of the longer footage on September 6th at 4pm BST.

I'm so stoked for this... I debating a media blackout from now on. I know there will be a huge trailer incoming for this probably this month and I'm wary to watch it. I kinda wanna go in blind but gosh dang it'll be hard haha
The expanded combat has me pretty hyped.
Looks good. I like that there's clearly more verticality to the arenas, should make combat more varied.
I'm looks very polished just from that little clip, the 60fps option should be the default. I do hope they make his blades more fun and combo wild like in GOW3, the blades of Chaos were my only complaint in an otherwise fantastic game.
Game of the year 2022.
Another masterpiece coming.that gameplay looks amazing and the graphics also.kratos 🐐 👑.elden ring and god of war will fight for game of the year.word up son
This looks WAY faster paced than the original and that is a big improvement! Let's hope the bosses are good!
This reminds me to take Nov 10-11 off at work 😅 make a long GOW weekend. Super excited.
Start the year with Elden Ring and end with God of War. Good times
Is this God of War vs the Battletoads? I know that they are not toads, but that was my first thought upon seeing the video.
They sure are being very cautious of revealing too much aren't they?
I like the added vertically but I couldn't glean much more than that from the video. Looks pretty good so far though.
The faster pace looks great but man the environment there looks bland and honestly uninspired and dated, something about it all just looks off and I think they know it thus why we have seen pretty much nothing of such a major title, and it is releasing in a few months.....
I really wish they hadn't made this cross Gen.
I'm not a huge fan of 2018. The samey environments, narrow hallways, repetitive puzzles and lack of combat variety felt like a downgrade from the old GoW games. I like it well enough, but never got the hype around it. But I have to say it looks from this like they've brought back at least some of the kinetic fun of the old series...it looks a bit more arcade-fun and a bit less stiff. I can't say I'm super hyped in a "must play this at launch" sort of way, but I'm getting a feeling I'll definitely enjoy it more than the first when I do play it.
For a moment I thought this was saying the game is short and I had serious questions.
@NEStalgia agreed
More like short but boring gameplay. Im not impressed with what they've shown thus far. The roll out of this game is so meh.
@LiamCroft Do you (or anyone) know if the gameplay is going to be presented in one long continuous shot with no cuts or edits like the last one?
@Stevemalkpus Yep, it will be: https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2021/09/god_of_war_ragnaroks_camera_is_a_single_shot_from_start_to_finish_just_like_the_last_game
Still haven’t played GoW 2018 even though I really want to. I don’t have a valid reason why I’ve held out. I’ve delayed it long enough. I think I’ll play through it in October before the sequel hits in November
Already preordered. It's gonna be incredible and GOTY 2022. 🙂😍
Day one buy here
God of war has some of my favourite combat ever I really love the recallable axe wish I had a dualsense so I could feel it when you call it back
@Juanalf looks like you can use the blades as a grapple in this one
doesn't look like much has changed from the last game. Not that excited, looks too similar..
@CWill97 I have just started playing through it...seems good..not as amazing as some people make it out to be..but defo good
@Mylo game informer has I think ten minutes of gameplay coming Sept 6. This was just a tease. I think I'm going to avoid all coverage though.
This game reeks of PS4
@BrockSmith I'm having the same conversation in my own head. I won't be watching anymore trailers for it.
I'm saving it for Christmas too, so now i just need to figure out how to go that long without stumbling across something online.
Looks amazing, as expected
@Grumblevolcano Thanks for the heads up, I'll just wait for that!
