It appears the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion will be the RPG's only substantial piece of DLC, if a comment from the official CD Projekt RED YouTube channel is to be believed. When asked by a user if there's more content to come, the channel responded saying "Phantom Liberty is the only planned expansion for Cyberpunk 2077".
Prior to the game's release, it was stated that "at least" two expansions were planned for Cyberpunk 2077. However, it's possible the game's awful release and CD Projekt RED's decision to delay updates and free content meant the second DLC had to be scrapped. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was well supported with two expansions: Heart of Stone and Blood and Wine. We've reached out for comment from CD Projekt RED.
Revealed during a livestream yesterday, Phantom Liberty is an expansion targeting current-gen consoles β a version for PS4 isn't planned. It'll launch on PS5 next year and sees Keanu Reeves reprise his role as Johnny Silverhand while main character V swears an oath to the US government. It brings with it a new district in Night City and is described as a "spy-thriller".

Fine, one is enough, it's good but not so good I want to play it for years to come. What I am really waiting for is the PS5 version of The Witcher, is there a date for that yet?
I mean, can anyone be genuinely surprised by this news? They want to get away from the sh**show as fast possible and quite rightly too.
I am however looking forward to playing the game again at somepoint now it's been ironed out somewhat but regardless, emphasis is now surely all on Witcher.
Don't really mind. There's a billion Gigs I haven't done yet.
@Jayslow I don't know what the point is of bringing up what CDPR said about DLC prior to Cyberpunk's release. Its not like CDPR kept to their word on how good the game would be at launch so who on Earth expects them to keep to their prelaunch declaration that there'd be 2 expansions?
@riceNpea all we know is Q4 of this year. so anywhere from october to december.
@TheArt I did all the gigs long before the missions. I much preferred the bit-sized chucks of action over the missions, especially the slow-paced ones that delivered loads of exposition.
@jdv95 so this year? That's good to know, thanks.
Never mind Game Over, Game Dead π₯²
This game deserved better. From the devs, to the 'fans' who slighted CP2077 whenever and wherever they could. Even in this comment section. Played the game to completion 4 times already and it's one of the best I've ever played. Will surely play it again in the future. Oh well, can't wait for comments like: I won't buy Witcher 4 from those liars!! CDPR is dead etc
@gollumb82 agree. The PS5 version was very good. Crashed about 5 times in my 150 hour playthrough so not too bad. I'd definelty recommend it for the price its being sold at now.
Oh no very sad.........anyway
Probably for the best. I have a few things that I didn't like about the game but now that most of the game-breaking bugs are fixed, it's a pretty good action game. They are heavily invested in the Cyberpunk IP and the world is great but with all the bad press surrounding 2077, it's better to move on and start work on a new game in this world. Learn from the mistakes of the past and show people with one big expansion that they can create something great.
I mean, blood and wine for witcher 3 is bigger than many other publishers games. Worth waiting to see how extensive this expansion will be
@gollumb82 can you blame those you call "fans" for slighting it though?
It was hyped up to be this revolutionary game to end all games, and in the end all we got was an incredibly buggy, broken mess, and underneath it an average at best RPG with conflicting game design philosophies that make it less than the sum of its parts.
It is a shame that there'll only be this one expansion but I'm sure it will be excellent. It's the game I'm most looking forward to next.
A shame, VR support is now even less likely to happen.
Anyway I hope that they do not give up and produce a sequel which fixes all the shortcomings. I quite like cyberpunk 2077 despite all its shortcomings.
@clvr
Actually, I can. Those opinions are mostly coming from those who played the broken last gen versions. That's on CDPR that they let it happen, but it's not representative of the game. I played it on launch day on XSX and had minor issues, while the game looked and played great. As for it being an average game.... I guess it's subjective. To me it seems you need to be into cyberpunk as a genre to enjoy it. I was totally engrossed in the plot and felt it was really close to what Blade Runner tried to portray (coincidentally, a flop in cinemas). I think an average gamer will be turned off by a game that's more on the philosophical side. Most just want mindless entertainment and I respect that. I like to indulge in that as well.
@Jayslow it's not arbitrary, they stated two dlcs to be the post launch plan. We really need to stop making excuses for this developer using terms like expectations.
CDPR did not create nor did customers have over stated expectations regarding this fraud that became cyberpunk. CDPR literally stated things about the gameplay, features and quality of the game that were outright false come release. Then tried to hide it for as long as possible to gain short term pre-order and release window profits.
@riceNpea Woah ALL...wow. Yeah the side content was pretty interesting with little stories to them. The gameplay of hacking stuff and causing commotion while you waltz through buildings is just satisfying.
Not a surprise really after the reaction to the game, and honestly I would rather they move on fully to their next project so it gets as much development time and resources as it can.
Still have yet to play Cyberpunk but I plan to pick it up soon on PS5 now that it has gotten a ton of updates.
@TheArt oh man absolutely. I got so powerful that I just had to turn up and hit them with contagion and walk around shooting them in the head as they died. It was like being in the Matrix, I was a god. I used to do drive-by contagion attacks, didn't even bother watching them die. And I played it on Very Hard. The game needs more difficulty levels because I didn't even bother using all my ability points. I still had 11 to use by the time I finished the story (I cleared every gig and loads on NCPD stuff before I entered the mission of no return). I was so overpowered I had to enforce rules upon how I killed people take it interesting.
Ok then GOTY/Complete native edition for ps5 on disc with the dlc in 2023.
@Reeneman now we have to wait, it's already cheap as chips now anyways
@gollumb82 and is it the fans' fault that the main (and for 14+ months only) version was a disaster? At this point you're just sounding apologetic simply because you like the game.
As for the rest, I am into cyberpunk and I found the setting and some of the worldbuilding (along with the writing in general) to be by far the best parts of the game.
The game being average is not subjective though, you just have to compare it to other games on the market in the same genre and you'll see that CP2077, as an RPG, falls flat on its face. It's a decent action adventure game, but the RPG systems are quite poorly implemented and in deep conflict with all the other systems they wanted to put in the game to make it the definitive game. It doesn't work as an RPG, nor as an immersive sim, nor as a GTA clone, and that's exactly because they tried to do all of it at once.
Lastly, I found the game to be well written, but philosophical in any way? Absolutely not. This game to me is exactly the kind of mindless entertainment you're talking about, nothing more than that. It had a few interesting themes, but nothing really deep.
As you said, heavier games tend to not sell well because they put the average person off, but this game sold gangbusters and is widely appreciated by a lot of "casual" gamers, so I'm not sure where you take that from.
@clvr you regard prey as a "masterpiece"
Your opinion is valid as everyone else. But when you give your opinions and type them as facts it's stupid :/
And for your last part your hinting on its poor sales data. But I'm sorry with all the negative press it constantly gets it's already sold 18 million within 2 years. To put this into perspective Witcher 3 sold 20 million ( alot copies were sold with PS4 consoles and boosted sales ) and that came out 2015
Cyberpunk has a rough start but most the hate left is just petty hate
If you can see prey as a "masterpiece" and you still see cyberpunk as a flop and all that than I'm sorry tell you but you are letting personal feelings not even related to actual game play affect how you feel about a game possibly denying yourself hours of entertainment
@Ukpukk I said it sold gangbusters, which means it sold a lot. How you managed to gather the exact opposite from that is beyond me, seriously.
I'm not denying myself anything, as I've played CP2077, so I'm not sure what you're hinting at.
And yeah, Prey is a masterpiece, by virtue of being one of the best immersive sims of all time.
Cyberpunk, though, for as much as it would like to also be an immersive sim, is an RPG, so I'm not sure what you're comparing them for. They're different games from different genres.
@clvr
I guess you could say the same about Mass Effect (poorly implemented rpg elements, especially in 2 and 3) and yet it is generally considered to be a milestone in gaming (as a trilogy). I will agree that the rpg elements in CP2077 are fairly light and most choices are meaningless but people seem to have zero issue with it in new Assassin's Creed games and call them rpgs...
Yes, it sold many copies but mostly because of the Witcher games. CDPR would sell real crap if they wanted to before CP2077 and people would gobble it up. As for the themes, Mikoshi, living as an AI beyond our actual selves to me seemed way deeper than most games tackle. But to each their own. Oh and by the way I will be playing Prey soon so I'll check out what to you is a masterpiece π
@clvr hahaha what? Okay that one is on me I didn't read the very last sentence just the one saying about heavy games selling less. Which with that last part you said does make me incorrect,
And yes you are you have played cyberpunk but it's obvious your first impressions have had a big impact on your view. Tell me if it went different at lunch would you have had a different view of the game.
The game type and genres doesn't matter. My point being was what you said was opinion as cyberpunk has alot more and better reviews.
@gollumb82 I haven't played Mass Effect nor the new AC games, so I cannot comment on those. The things you say about AC though sound to me like they would be rather poor RPG's.
It's not that if everyone calls them RPG's then they're automatically good RPG's, that's a non-sequitur.
Excited for you to play Prey, hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Have fun!
@Ukpukk I'm not sure why you keep assuming things, but I did not play it at launch. I played it on my Series X after the 1.5 patch dropped, so I managed to play it at a (mostly) stable frame rate, which let me assess the game at its best, and I still came away thoroughly disappointed.
I liked it, don't get me wrong, I never said it's a bad game, but it's a pretty lousy RPG, that's what I'm saying.
But ok, if you insist I missed out on something I'm sure you are the one in the right ππ»
Regarding the last point, erm, no, CP2077 wasn't that well received. Push Square for example gave it a 3.
Prey wasn't as well received as it should've mainly because of the name and the expectations that went with it, it's pretty well documented.
Lastly, I don't put much stock at all in reviews, I find analyses and critiques to be much more useful in assessing the actual quality of a game. A review, by its short format nature, can't amount to much more than an advice on whether a game, intended as a product, is worth buying to you or not, while a critique's job is to analyze a game and its design in a much deeper way, as the piece of art it is.
Check out the numerous retrospectives on Prey online and you'll see that the consensus is that it's a mistreated masterpiece that deserved better reception.
If you don't want to, trust me, I've spent who knows how many hours indulging in Prey-related content.
Also Prey was never, like Arkane's other games, meant to have mass appeal like CP2077 was always supposed to, and that entails, as is often the case, that CP2077 is a much shallower and less focused game.
@clvr Iβll also add that Witcher 3 has an amazing story, but all the RPG gameplay elements are poorly implemented and mess game balance and design. Itβs an incredible game, but in many ways, a terrible RPG.
@clvr Regarding the last point, erm, no, CP2077 wasn't that well received. Push Square for example gave it a 3. and than 2 years later gave the 8/10 same as preys review 8/10.
And first part you miss understood alot. Look you used a old rating you even knew the score you either googled it and choose the old review to support what your saying or you just remember the old one. But point being you went straight for the negative and if you play any game with the same mindset that game won't be as good.
If prey had a lot of bad press and a lot people hating on it when you played it that would affect how you preserved the game
So if cyberpunk just came out now clean state and you played it tell me would you have the same opinion
@Jaz007 I have it but I haven't gotten around to play it yet, so I'll reserve judgement.
I've heard that complain leveled at the game, though.
@Ukpukk ok dude, you have already decided that I'm wrong and my opinion isn't valid cause I went in with a negative mindset, ok. Never mind that I'd been super hyped for CP2077 as my comment history can confirm.
You seem like a nice guy and I don't wanna sound rude but I'm having a really hard time having a serious discussion with you to be perfectly honest, seeing as you're dealing in "if's" and not what actually happened.
Have a good one.
@clvr at what point did I say your opinion isn't valid it's the complete opposite i been saying. You're opinion is very important to you and I imagine friends ext
That just proves my point ? You want facts. Tell me you were hyped for the game but didn't buy it for 6 months
Iβd rather them save ideas for a sequel and focus on that than a second DLC expansion. This Cyberpunk world has so much damn potential. Excited for the expansion though.
As long as I can spend more time with my best girl Panam. I am happy.
I wish there was more, but also want them to move on to another engine.
I hope there will be another Cyberpunk game made with UE5 someday in the future.
This is great news for me, means I can start playing the game alot sooner.
Since I am refusing to touch it until all DLC and updates have been released.
