Update: We now have confirmation from Sony that the lineup of PS5, PS4 games joining PS Plus Essential in October 2022 is as follows:
PS Plus Essential: October 2022
- Hot Wheels Unleashed (PS5, PS4)
- Injustice 2 (PS4)
- Superhot (PS4)
The three games will be available to download on Tuesday, 4th October 2022, and thus join the long list of All PS Plus Games. Sony has also said next month's PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium titles will revert back to being announced mid-way through the month, so check back for those in a few weeks.
Owners of Sony's newest console can look forward to the native PS5 version of Hot Wheels Unleashed, which we scored a 7/10 in our review. Praising its racing, car variety, and great multiplayer components, we concluded: "While the tracks tend to feel a bit samey and the random nature of unlocks may lead to some frustration, the end result is a robust racing game that'll appeal to fans young and old."
Meanwhile, Injustice 2 is a very good fighting title, even if it is a bit old now. "The game’s depth in fighting, story, and customisation options make it a worthy addition to not only any fighting gamer’s library – but demands to be tried by people of all tastes," we concluded in our 9/10 Injustice 2 PS4 review.
Rounding out the October 2022 lineup is SUPERHOT, an FPS that is utterly excellent. "It may lack the physicality of its virtual reality alter-ego, but it makes up for this with a mind-bending story and an on-point menu system. The slow-motion shooting is still super satisfying, and the added locomotion makes for a different kind of cadence to the PlayStation VR version. Buy both editions if you can, as they complement each other nicely and are unmissable in our humble opinion."

Original story: Just minutes before Sony plans to announce the official lineup of PS5, PS4 games heading to PS Plus Essential for the month of October 2022, Dealabs has done its usual thing and leaked the selection early. Only this time, you are finding out just before the reveal instead of days prior.
Another game is expected to join the lineup to make three PS5, PS4 games, but the site says two of the titles are as follows:
PS Plus Essential: October 2022
- Hot Wheels Unleashed (PS5, PS4)
- Injustice 2 (PS4)
We'll update this article once we get the official announcement, which should take place in just 15 minutes time from the publishing of this article.

I sure hope dealabs is wrong this time.
Hot Wheels and Injustice 2 are actually really fun games. Strong start!
Hot Wheels was great, only downside was the campaign was over way too quickly. But really enjoyed the time I had with it.
Hot Wheels is fun af (have it on Switch) but do not be fooled: it is DIFFICULT. I bought it thinking it'd be a good kid friendly arcade racer and it is decidedly not. Physics used are way too realistic.
Would be happy with Hot Wheels, good craic for me and the wee man
Injustice 2 is great, but I picked it up for less than $5 not too long ago...not a very worthy addition value-wise
Another freaking racing game? We just had one this month. Also Injustice is trash. 3/10 month again.
Have Hot Wheels on Series X and it’s a blast. There’s a lot of expansion content behind pass paywalls through (I bought the Gold edition or whatever so I have them and they’re fantastic. But worth noting that things like the Batman and Looney Toons expansion won’t be in this base version).
man i hate ps plus
Hopefully the game they will anounce in 5 minutes will make up for this
Nothing for me this month. I bought my son Hot Wheels last Christmas and already got Injustice 2 when the Ninja Turtles DLC released.
I want Hot Wheels for the film cars but didn't want to risk paying for it so I am happy about that. Injustice is a good game as well but think I already have it
Hot wheels seems ok. Only fighting games I can get on with are SF and MK given I’m a 90s kid and certain stuff is locked into muscle memory. Look forward to hearing about the other essential game and the extras (and Premium, for a laugh).
Edit: Superhot. Having played the VR version to death (it’s phenomenal) I just don’t see how it will match up in pancake mode. I guess I’ll check it out from curiosity then likely never try it again.
@get2sammyb really excited about getting a 5 year old (dead) game ! the FGC don’t call it injustass for nothing !
Trash month again.
Those are great games, but I already have the premium versions of both. Hopefully, the PS5 game is something useful to me.
@nomither6 The FGC don't like any fighting game that doesn't have infinite combos and a ridiculous skill ceiling.
An how come playstation never fully takes advantage of the month and gives at least a solid horror title
Don't have any of these so I'll happily take them. They seem decent fun to me. Even better if the other third game I don't own and is decent. No complaints from me
Lame. Not for me
@AdamNovice well imagine your favorite genre being watered down or nerfed
I’m into trying hot wheels but the rest are just ok.
Dang, I was hoping they'd announce the extra and premium games early again.
Yeah, very cool. Hot wheels. I was skipping it so far. 2 months on a row they give me for free a game i was planning on. Deathloop and Hotwheels. Awesome.
Pretty sure Injustice 2 was already in other parts of PS Plus but I'll gladly play Hot Wheels for a couple hours and give Superhot a go too.
Nice, i wanted to play hot wheels and could be fun for the kids. I thought we had already been given superhot before though.
Will claim injustice 2, although ive still not played the first one after they gave it away
Happy to give Hot Wheels a spin and will probably download Superhot to the backlog as well. Fairly happy with this month's offerings.
Injustice - I've done all I intend to on that though.
Is super hot VR only
I'm not sure where you're getting Extra/Premium being announced in the middle of the month? This quote from the blog suggests an announcement later this week:
"The PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium Game Catalog lineup for October will be announced later this month."
Hot wheels is really great - far better than the Forza 5 Hotwheels DLC, which disappointed me. Shame I've already got it, but I'm delighted more people will get to play it, as I think a lot of people will enjoy it.
Not too sure on the other two, but I'll give em a whirl!
@Beerheadgamer82 no. There’s a spin-off game that’s VR but the original game is a regular game.
@Beerheadgamer82 there's a VR version and Normal version. I'm assuming this is the non VR version
@Beerheadgamer82 No, the VR version is a separate game. This is the pancake version.
All 3 are very nice. Too bad I have all of them lol
@SoulChimera do you throw pancakes at enemies
This is probably the first time this has happened since the PS3 days but these are all games that I've considered buying before and never have. This is an excellent month for me.
@Grumblevolcano It's most likely a typo and Sony means next month. Otherwise, it has two working days to announce the Extra and Premium lineup. In that case, why wouldn't they all be bundled together like last time?
I don't have any of these, so Superhot and Hot Wheels looks like a good time to me.
Honestly I thought most of these were already included. But on checking it was Injustice 1 only and God only knows how I got Superhot, I don't remember buying it but I definitely played it on PS4. Strange.
superhot looks dope
I’m happy with this. Wanted to check out hot wheels and I’ll happily pay for some dlc. Super hot is great fun as well
Superhot and Injustice 2 are fantastic games.
I like the Injustice storyline a lot, they are some of the best DC comics series, and the 1st game is solid, so I will play Injustice 2 soon (my gaming checklist increased a lot after PS Extra).
@theGoodChap a lot of games are overpriced anyway , the problem is that they go for the lowest hanging fruit with the games they choose . it’s either old as dirt , obscure , or indie garbage or all 3 .
and some complain because we’re forced to use this weak service to play online , if ps plus was optional you wouldn’t hear nothing from me about it .
Literally just purchased a month of PS+ as I’m chasing some online trophies.
Already own Injustice 2 & have SuperHot for VR, but I’m happy to give hot wheels a go.
Wanted to try Hot Wheels.
Granblue Fantasy: Versus was good last month also - I only wanted to play RPG mode and ended up my game for when I needed to step away from SteelRising.
Hot Wheels + Valkyrie Elysium could be another good combo.
Hot Wheels! I'll have that thank you.
@Snake_V5 it's all MP rubbish tbh, no interest 😑
@WallyWest injustice the 1st game was a terrible grind so no Thanks on that one
@Red_Silurian ouch didn’t happen 😅
Oh..........
I rarely play car games and i never play fighting games, and thats 2 months in a row for both, Sony must employ some proper geniuses.
Superhot is worth a try and that's it. Boooo
Already bought hotwheels (solid racer) but im happy with the other games. Good month.
Not too fussed on those to be honest but been busy with deathloop. Great game 👌
Injustice 2 is already included with PS Extra?
@huyi How is Injustice the 1st one a grind? There's no real leveling and it lacks the gear system the sequel has.
Sony just doesnt care if the essential games have already been around on their service forever. How many double dips in the past two years?
@MFTWrecks i felt that way too. It was a struggle to level up. And the cars you get are random loot. Ehhhh.
Hot Wheels is fun but the DLC is overpriced (20 bucks CAD each!) and each pack locks 3 easy bronze trophies behind them. Beware completionists.
No...just no man..
Don't want to sound overly entitled, but the gold edition of injustice 2 would have been nice. That's one game I held off from forever.
Really crappy month once again. Won’t
be complaining though, because of the great higher tiers my backlog is bigger than ever.
I'm pretty pleased with this selection, really wanted to try Hot Wheels and Superhot is excellent in VR, never tried it without though!
I've been secretly wanting to try Hot Wheels for ages, but being a grown adult, have not been able to justify buying it. Excuse me while I pour a chocolate milk to celebrate.
Superhot is so good for those who have not played. Excellent and unique title. I will check out Hot Wheels in offline mode so my friends can't see but it looks like a lot of fun
@WallyWest I think it had online and do certain moves or levels over and over, I gave up after a couple of days 🙄 you enjoy it I guess
A rare month in which I own all the games already. Sad.
Another terrible month, it's October's games for crying out loud, it should have at least one scary game not ANOTHER racing game ANOTHER fighting game, super hot is alright but definitely not for me
Only Injustice 2 isn't on Switch here, but if I ultimately do splurge on the 3 month renewal over the next few days (as September's NFS Heat and Granblue Fantasy Versus have been tempting me to), all three will get tossed into my library as usual. Still on the fence due to the respective region's sub cards costing an arm and a leg now (especially when your local banks gleefully buy Russian ruble for the pre-war ~3.3 BYN per hundred and sell for 4.2 BYN with equal glee - this is Belarus, baby!😏), but I'll have to renew at some point before New Year anyway or say goodbye to the bulk of clouded Vita saves (six months, was it?), so hey.
Everyone's sleeping on Superhot. Smh my head.
I've owned Injustice 2 for ages. Hot Wheels is pretty good, but you'll have to pay for a lot of its best content. Superhot is a decent novelty that's pretty fun in VR, but wears thin fast. Hopefully Premium has a few fun surprises. At least I've got Plague Tale Requiem on GamePass.
Nothing really for me but I do think people
Who haven’t played Hotwheels should be all in with giving it a shot. It’s like a throwback to the olden days of arcade racers with lots of unlockables. It’s also surprisingly tough!
Good games, already in the collection 🙂
Edit: HW:U has a good base game but they ruined it with the amounts of payed DLC imo. The game is now available for under €15 now but every DLC pack will set you back double that. Nowadays a lot of DLC gives me questions, is it part of the game (like in the old days) or are they a bit greedy at times?
Glad for an excuse to replay SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot SuperHot
Errm, got carried away there
I’ll throw Injustice 2 and SuperHot in my library but I doubt I’ll ever play them since I’ve played both before w/ my kid. Never know tho.
“SUPER. HOT.”
Its a ok list of games.word up son
Terrible was hoping for at least one remotely horror themed game for Halloween
First month i'm uninterested in
recycling games again for the freebies, second time they have given us Injustice 2 on ps plus. pfft
Nothing for me
@tameshiyaku damn just buy it. In 5 years you could've saved up to buy a house lmao, and I thought I was cheap. I got the legendary edition at some point. I only make 12.50 an hour and can afford this ***** so most of you can too
@Deadhunter I'll actually be buying and supporting plague tale on ps, as I actually support devs and don't use the industry killer that is gamepass. Ppl don't use there brains to see that one day gamepass will ruin the industry when every game is on there and no one buys them quality will go down and you wanna talk about the end of good games that's its right there
Very happy about Superhot, and excited to try Hot Wheels. Great month for me.
Hot Wheels is great, found it got repetitive after a while but enjoyed the time I spent with it. Haven’t tried Superhot so looking forward to that but can’t say I’m too fussed about Injustice. Solid month!
@uptownsoul what drop in quality?? Everything on gamepass depending on what you are playing on you get the highest quality version that device gives. Its called smart delivery (yes this applies too gamepass too). Honestly people who doubt the power, accessibility and value that gamepass offers are blind. Lets be honest now which has had the better lineup for the last 2 months for gamepass and ps plus?? This month im glad im no longer subbed too psn plus its a joke at this point and octobers offerings for psn plus are laughable at best.
@SerJosh97 "I'll actually be buying and supporting plague tale on ps, as I actually support devs and don't use the industry killer that is gamepass."
How do you think games end up on gamepass and ps plus exactly?? Sony and microsoft both use the same sort of system too procuring games for there services its called "take my cheque". And how is "gamepass" an industry killer? Many developers have been pretty outspoken about how gamepass has brought attention to there games too a larger community where some would of completely overlooked some. Industry killer? Or are you just full of s$%#.
Another dead month meh glad i no longer subd.
@theGoodChap i think the problem is they are all old games that you could liturally outright buy 3 of them titles for the same price as 1 month of plus. As of june 2022 there was around 45 million subscribers which brings income to 500 million a month ($9.99 x45 million) If this month is $100 worth of games it honestly feels like they could of given you more. It also brings in roughly 6 billion yearly (thats just base psn plus and doesnt include other micro-transactions, dlc). They are making bank while subbers are getting spanked.
Nice month for me. Hot Wheels has tempted me a few times, SuperHot VR was great so I look forward to trying the couch version, and I enjoyed the story mode in Injustice 1.
I'd gladly play through Super Hot again and go for the platinum if it isn't to hard or tedious.
Hot Wheels sounds like fun for a few hours.
Actually a great month. I’ve almost bit at Hot Wheels a few times, and Injustice 2 is great, Superhot is great. Been a couple solid months recently, colour me impressed.
Looking forward to an arcadey racer. I've played the others on the old psnow. They were ok. One was Mortal Kombat with different characters. Which is fine for a little bit. Super Hot was neat until it got difficult. Just didn't feel any incentive to keep going figuring out the perfect moves you need to do.
Injustice 2 couldnof been had for $2.99 at one point. My sub is up in Dec and I'm not sure I'm renewing.
It's a fantastic selection tbh, something for everyone. Unfortunately for me, first time in a while that I already own all three titles. Can't complain too much I guess, can't even remember last time that happened.
@SerJosh97 I'd like to know where you live to save up for a house in five years on that salary
Guess injustice 2 just wasn't high on my priority list.
@Gh05tm4ch1n3
Are you some kind of joke poster? The equivalent Microsoft service to this is Games with Gold, who this month offer -
Windbound
Bomber crew.
PS plus essential absolutely kills games with gold every single month to the point where the Microsoft's offering is a complete joke, and even die hard Pure Xbox fans are begging for them to kill the service as its so pathetic.
If you want to talk extra vs game pass, your in the wrong thread and commenting on the wrong thing, ably demonstrating you have no idea what you are talking about.
@Titntin actually the equivalent to psn premium is gamepass ultimate you got 4 games for the month ultimate gets 12.....
4 old games compared too 12 new games (give or take 4 of them). 12 games you can most likely play on pc and xbox and mobile and tablet compared to 4 games ... that are just old tat. Are you missing something.. like you know a brain.
@uptownsoul are you seriously using food analogies?? Nobody in there right mind uses that argument.
@uptownsoul when is it just gold vs psn plus?? Your definitely short in the spare change department aren't you.
@theGoodChap those 17 games are not worth it. Most were enticed by sly cooper but the rest were meh. Is that your quality over quantity argument. Lol.
90% of September's psn plus was old pre gen titles. Is this your argument of quality over quantity lol.
Yes my numbers are not exact as there are far too many variables too consider.
1. Are they subbing yearly or monthly? As the my original comment suggested this was based on just monthly. My point still stands.
2. Did they make any micro-transactions through psn and of what would be considered money too psn plus??
3. What overheads are they paying?
My points still stand regardless of the context.
@uptownsoul have you actually played halo infinite?? You call it trash but its single player was a fun action filled shooter with an actual full budget story. Its multiplayer is the only thing thats dragging it down. Broken promises and slow releases of modes etc. All games drop in price eventually it has nothing yo do with "quality" babylons fall anyone?? Godfall?? Are these the quality titles you boys seem to harp on about seeing as they released at 60 to 70$.
@Gh05tm4ch1n3 You continually show you have no understanding at all of what you are looking at. If you cant even compare the correct services then the only message you are sending is that MS trolls have absolutely no intelligence.
If you prefer GP over PS plus extra, more power to you, but to continue to peddle that PS plus does not destroy the competing games with gold every month shows you are not even aware of the services. Everybody on total Xbox also agrees games with Gold is awful.
You've made yourself look silly by doubling down on your complete miss-understanding
....and halo infinite is the worst AAA game I can ever remember playing, I was delighted after 13 hours to put the controller down and uninstall that game. The gunplay was good, but that's been good since Halo 2, everything else is absolutely awful, from script to presentation to cut scenes, what should be the best of the best has the worst of everything, an absolute joke from the richest corp on the planets main I.P. Even all the Xbox Halo fans are begging MS to change developer because they have completely destroyed what was a brilliant IP and made it a joke. If you still wish to c,laim its brilliant, despite all the metrics, or no one playing or caring, all the streamers who have dropped it, and the calls from the fans to change devs, then you are clearly in a tiny minority of people who think its OK. The current state of Halo is a sh*tshow, and for you to suggest otherwise in the face of overwhelming disagreement from Xbox fans, undermines your credibility even more.
@Titntin metacritic gives halo infinite a 87. Horizon forbidden west is at 88. If its such a trash and badly recieved game why is it scored that high. Does it also mean Horizon forbidden west was also trash, not worth playing. Simple answer no and you trashing a game from xbox and praising a game from playstation its liturally all you ponies do. Keep hating.
Why is this a repost? 🤷♀️🤷♀️
Geez I hate fanboyism on any side but man is it toxic here.
@Gh05tm4ch1n3 it didn't deserve players choice award when only the multiplayer beta was out but it got it & it doesn't deserve the praise it gets for its mediocre campaign either lol
@awp69 when it hits 100+ replies you know what's up. Also applicable to a bad ps plus month, though I think this one's good.
@huyi isn't though is it? Just bumped the dealabs leak article when it proved to be true.
@get2sammyb yeah, I'll be playing these 2 for sure. I'll probably play Superhot on vr though. Not a bad month at all
@Would_you_kindly thats just your opinion. Clearly the majority of official reviewers from official magazines beg to differ. Its also standing at a 8.0 on user ratings on metacritic. I am going t9 say that your are the weakest link.
@awp69 that is social media in a nutshell lol
@Gh05tm4ch1n3 343 outright lied when they said the game would include local co op , co op & forge are both still not in the game an unfinished underwhelming game shouldn't have gotten those review scores peiod it only did because it's halo.
I had a blast with the Halo Infinite campaign. And that’s really what the reviews were about. The multiplayer aspect was a separate F2P game, although missing co-op was definitely a negative. Still think the campaign deserved the good reviews it got. But that’s just my opinion. And we’re all allowed to have our own one of those.
They did blow it on MP. Core gameplay is still good there but just too many missteps otherwise.
IJ2 was $2.99 at one point. This is ridiculously bad. My PS sub runs out and I think I'm out.
Well I guess I'll check out the story in Injustice 2. As I've said before, it'd be nice to see more Japanese games, especially JRPGs. Even supposedly bad ones. I know it makes sense why this is the case, but the typical month of PS+ feels like when you go to a person's house that you're not really friends with, like your sister-in-law's brother or something, and you see their game collection. All western games, basic genres, playing it safe, AAA (but in this case old AAA), often with craploads of DLC.
Or to put it another way, it's the modern equivalent of the types of PS2 games you'd get at car boot sales back in the 2000s. You'd expect to see a Toy Story game, a Medal of Honour, an old Tomb Raider... You'd very rarely, if ever, see FFX, Persona 4 in or DMC3.
@Grimwood lol. It says im prepared to give everything a good try, particularly if its an important title thats likely to invite debate. Im an opionated old git, but I do like to base the opinion on personal experience, and ive many happy memories of Halo 2.
In Halos Infinates case, it was hard to believe it wouldnt get better, the mechanics are supurb and the gapple gun was really nicely implimented. I kept waiting for the story to make sense or some characters to grow so I could care, or a brilliantly scripted battle to excite. By the time it was obvious this wasnt gonna happen I was nearly at the end, so I finished it anyway. Only encounter I remember was fighting three generals in a large spaceship graveyard, that was memorable and decent, but nothing else sticks in the mind.
Your right, I could have put down the controller and uninstalled much quicker. But I find some games take a while to open up and show you why you should play, so I tend to give games much longer to make an impression if Ive started them. Sometimes that pays off, in this case it didnt!
@awp69 "But that’s just my opinion. And we’re all allowed to have our own one of those."
We certainly are, and Im as glad to hear your experience as anyones, its a shame I didnt get the enjoyment you did as I didnt play wanting to be dissapointed, and you are not alone in enjoying what you played.
I remember my wife watching me play for a while, before looking at me with concern and saying 'surely this isnt Halo?'. Neither of us ever lost that feeling and I still find it hard to believe this was a 7 year money no object development from the worlds richest corp to show they are leaders in the world of games... It should have been so much more imo.
I really dont begrudge anyone enjoying anything, though, and whilst ill never understand why anyone thinks this title was good enough, I am grateful that some people at least were satisfied and had fun.
I'd love to see some more first party games releasing to subscribers. I love what's on PS plus extra but it definitely needs more playstation exclusives. I hope to see forbidden West sometime soon as it's a game I missed on release. I bought God of War, spiderman remastered, death loop, miles morales and ratchet and clank rift apart day one and they're all brilliant games I just wish we got more included with our subscriptions
I'll def be trying out Hot Wheels Unleashed. Already own Injustice 2 and have zero interest in Superhot.
