PS Stars, the free new loyalty program from PlayStation, will see you completing various quests and activities in exchange for rewards – including digital collectibles. These virtual trinkets – which, as has already been iterated, are not NFTs – will represent various iconic characters and products from Sony history, including the PocketStation and Polygon Man, as revealed in a trailer during State of Play.
“Once you’ve earned collectibles, you can arrange them in a virtual display case within the PS App and, if you choose, you may display your collectibles case within your PSN profile to friends,” Sony’s Grace Chen explained. “There will be different ways to acquire or earn collectibles – the primary way will be through completing campaigns.”
Interestingly, one of the first campaigns sounds a lot like Heardle – but with PlayStation games! “A campaign may be a point-earning or collectible-earning activity. One of our first campaigns is ‘Hit Play/1994’, where members who correctly launch games that match song-based clues receive a special collectible. More campaign details to come.”
PS Stars is launching first in Asia later this month, before expanding to Europe and North America in the weeks that follow. It’s going to be interesting to see how this exciting initiative expands and matures over time.

No, they aren’t NFTs but I’d much prefer earning points towards actual games like Microsoft does than things I literally will never look at for more than a few seconds. Just my opinion.
@awp69 But they've already announced they're going to do that as well?
Wow, Sony remembered that Toro exists!
Would be great if each game had their own collectibles to earn
@get2sammyb probably shouldve focused on that instead of the stuff to decorate your profile XD
Kinda reminds me of the stuff you find in Astro but you display them on your profile. Interesting.
Meanwhile on Game Pass, I got Elden Ring, Steelrising and pre-ordered Callisto Protocol for £0.00p this year and still have over £100 in cash value on my account. Step it up Sony.
@UltimateOtaku91 Would love that honestly.
@BeerIsAwesome this instantly reminded me of my avatar on my Xbox 360 and I think mine wore a Bioshock tshirt? I now have PTSD from remembering I used to be Xbox fan boy.
The reaction to this on Social Media is wild
This is like if everyone hated the Smash Bros trophies by just assuming they were something they weren’t
@Danloaded Eh? They announced this ages ago. This was just an update showing the digital collectibles. There'll be more information as this launches, too, I suspect.
Sounds like the rewards programme will be rubbish not like gold points on purchases on Nintendo or being able to exchange points on Xbox for gift cards & stuff but just getting some meaningless digital picture lol
@Shigurui you have to play A LOT to get that many points I get enough points to claim a £5 gift card every 4 or so months & then use it on something on sale usually a BC game lol
@Would_you_kindly it’s confirmed that PlayStation Stars also involves earning PSN credit.
@Deoxyr1bose I didn't hear that just these digital collectible things lol
jeez people getting shi**y over something free that can be ignored.
That pocketstation brings back memories, even though I never had one. Just memories of really wanting one. Can't even remember why, some game I played worked with it or something.
Oh my god, guys, the digital collectibles are just one facet of this program that they wanted to show today. It's not the ONLY part of the scheme.
@Would_you_kindly you really don't , I spend approx 6 mins a day doing the daily rewards and end up with approx 26000 points a month
@Would_you_kindly - Not at all, the monthly and daily sets plus quests alone will net you around £5 per month bare minimum with less than one hour played.
toro and kuro with birthday cake is the only digital trinket I’ll ever need
What a load of garbage
@Balosi Final Fantasy 7 or 8 with Chocobos i think thats the only one i seem to remember.
I think this is a great idea. Hopefully the display case is nice. Can't wait for this to start.
Also with the comments im seeing so far. Many of you have questionable intelligence and need to quit overreacting. If you don't like it ignore it.
@get2sammyb tbf, with no mention of it in the article, I was beginning to question if i'd read into the previous article incorrectly, as it was awhile back and I've slept since then, because yeah I just saw these digital collectibles and thought wait, that's all they're doing with this?
i want to know how much wallet credit i can earn and how to earn it?
I get about £20 a month from Microsoft rewards i will get some digital tat from sony
This could actually be a great addition to PS. If they were to make a couple of collectables for each game then collectors will definitely pony over thier points for these exclusive awards. Maybe make a collectable only purchasable once you've completed the game or what not, it could bring a who new element to Trophy hunting. Obviously people not interested in these collectables can still redeem thier points towards games etc so everyone is covered I believe (I hope).
They think the digital collectibles are the highlight though. The highlight should be that you can earn credit to buy games not get some digital gubbins to show off to people. I hope I can cash in all points for credit and show off my empty collectibles case.
I'm sure this has it's niche, just as collecting boxed editions does. All power to you if that's you.
But honestly to the larger audience this is very disappointing so far, hopefully the other 'rewards' aren't so lame. Why would I want some digital tat "to show off to friends"??? Could not give two *****
Hopefully the other rewards are tangible things like discounts on PSN store or PS+ memberships. It doesn't have to be a lot, pennies add up, we have this on both Switch and Xbox already. But currently this is pretty worthless to the masses.
Looking forward to earning some! Won't go out of my way to earn them though. Usuaully I treat Platinum trophies as my little digital collection but this is a great idea for another way
@stvevan exactly ignorant children who are on there phones all day yet can't take 2 secs to Google search and research on there own. They would then see you CAN earn psn credit. Instead they take the time to bitch and whine and complain. I hate most of these so called gamers
@Martsmall no way. I call bull. I also did daily I have gamepass started thus feb to be exact and no you can't get over 26k lmao
@SerJosh97 25383 this is my months ( August ) and I was missing 500 points for the rewards top 10 ( far cry didn't do it and 75 points for assassin's creed level up quest )
https://ibb.co/59t3gkW
Oh and thats without taking part in any of the get so many points from sales and if you look at the bottom there is 7500 points I didn't get from buying games in special sales, if I had so 26000 is very possible and I also said approx
@Shigurui I have my doubts that it would come to £5, and certainly that it would exceed that.
It's a fun little idea for trinkets, but beyond that I don't really see it surviving. It feels much more like a gimmick to me, and won't have the longevity that we have seen in trophies and other system-wide 'reward' mechanisms.
@Mythologue - I said £5 at the bare minimum. Monthly set and daily/monthly play GP quests alone will net you 3500+, add in the daily sets and it will be about £5. That's without even doing mobile searches, achievement per day or playing the monthly game quests.
