The marketing machine is kicking off for God of War Ragnarok, a game that's due out in just a couple of months. For Sony's big first-party titles, it loves splashing the cash, and they don't get much bigger than the sequel to one of PS4's most revered exclusives. Just one avenue to drum up excitement is this: pair the game with the consistently popular Rick and Morty.
Yes, the pair of dimension-hopping adventurers hop into the nine realms of Norse mythology, with Rick's sole motivation to get his hands on the legendary Leviathan axe "and other unannounced upgrades". It's an amusing skit, and it's always fun to see crossovers like this — though we'd have liked to have seen Kratos' reaction to having his prized weapon stolen.
Amazingly, this isn't the first time PlayStation has partnered with Rick and Morty. The duo promoted the PS5 console in 2020 too, though that was a more phoned in effort. They've upped their game with this Ragnarok ad.
Kratos and Atreus' big sequel arrives on 9th November. Will you be playing on day one? Will you be secretly hoping for continuity from this ad, which will see Kratos without his axe, and so he'll have to track down Rick and Morty to get it back? Or is that just us? Tell us in the comments section below.

Everyday we stray further from God's light.
Now that was awesome! More please
I love Rick and morty PlayStation ads.
Rick and Morty more than 'phoned-in' their promotion of PS5, it featured in the episode where Rick tried to get a pardon as a turkey, from the President. He had a flashback of his life where he revisited all the PS consoles he owned. When's the next series start? The last episode was a real cliffhanger.
They also did one one for Death Stranding which is the one to beat, but this is really well done too.
The ‘unannounced upgrades line’ was funny. I hope they reintroduce some more of the old weapons.
Would you really go into Ragnarök without the Blade for Olympus? I imagine most of the gods will be ‘immortal’ like Baldur.
No one beats Sony PlayStation for getting PR etc spot on year after year.
Nintendo do ok.
Xbox, what is one of those(Hello PR Team)
Hype! Gotta love this pr, so good!
Just two months away!
It should go gold soon. I'll shed a tear when that happens
Shame where not getting high on life on ps5 hopefully its only a timed exclusive on Xbox.
@riceNpea First episode aired yesterday I think
What do these two properties have in common? I hate the age of mind-numbingly stupid crossovers.
@Meehanuk_1987 it's definitely a time exclusive
The Death Stranding Rick and Morty ad was pretty good.
We need video game ads with Smiling Friends.
@Meehanuk_1987 High on Life looks like it nails the humour really well. And it's the only thing so far that's made me really want an Xbox
But I can't justify buying one for just one comedy sci-fi game 😭 that would be silly. So I too hope one day it comes to PS5
I love these guys banter is rough as heck keep it coming lol
@DaveScoffin oh really?! Thanks 😊
@clvr it's an advert not a crossover. I agree with the sentiment though. Fortnite skins in FIFA is dumb-as-feck
Was Rick hinting that Atreus will be rowing the boats this time round? maybe Kratos can fight while he rows?
That was well done.haha.that was funny .we need more crossovers like that.word up son
@clvr They're both popular and targeting a similar audience, one has a game coming out soon and the other is just starting its latest series. It's an odd mash-up but I can see the logic from both sides.
BOI. That was awesome! Two of my favourite things put together!
Lol fantastic. Missed watching Rick and Morty. Ill have to find a way to watch the newer seasons.
@Quintumply obviously I understand that, but that's just marketing, not a crossover motivated by some kind of affinity between these two properties or anything. It's exactly that that irks me about crossovers these days.
@riceNpea I know, I know. Still doesn't make any sense though.
@clvr neither did Diana Ross taking a penalty at the World Cup 94 opening ceremony but it happened 😄
Besides Rick is always telling us how nothing actually matters, and he's right! 😊
So, we get a Rick and Morty promo before any actual marketing for the game aside from a year-old clip, a lame sotrybook reading promo, and a few days old mediocre PS4 looking clip.
Why do I get the feeling this game has had some development problems... and that Sony is committed to nose diving into concrete consumer perception of this division of their business.
Hate rick & Morty find the voices & the 'humour' incredibly annoying
Okay, the combo of two of my favorite franchises... Like I needed any reason to buy this game, but that was awesome.
@Dezzy70 to be fair, all three have had pretty big wins, PS more so
@KundaliniRising333 yo, relax, use your brain.
If it had problems, they wouldn't be gearing up for a GI Cover or releasing all this promo.
@clvr it’s supposed to be entertaining. Learn how to have fun, grandpa
@Akurusu well, entertaining doesn't mean anything goes. I like things that are structured to make sense and have some kind of logic to them, not this kind of random BS thrown together because "A: popular, B: popular, then A+B: mega popular".
If you thought "but it's entertainment" was a gotcha, I'm sorry but it isn't.
Also you don't have to worry about me, I just finished my shift and I'm gonna have a whale of a time with Elden Ring, but thanks regardless 😘
Hilarious ad, love Rick & Morty!
