Not at all happy with releasing a new Star Wars movie or TV show every ten minutes, Disney is reportedly looking to pump out a new Star Wars video game every six months. This is according to Insider Gaming, with sources saying that the entertainment juggernaut wants one AAA title and one smaller project hitting store shelves every year, in rotation.
The article goes on to list all of the Star Wars games currently in development, and it's safe to say that Disney's plans are already very much in motion. Eight titles have been confirmed, including Amy Hennig's AAA adaptation, Quantic Dream's Star Wars Eclipse, the Knights of the Old Republic remake (which was recently passed off to a new studio), Star Wars Jedi: Survivor — the Fallen Order sequel.
But the report says that these announced games aren't the only Star Wars projects in the works. "Several more" are apparently in pre-development. The content machine is well and truly trucking along.
It doesn't sound like everything's running smoothly, though. The aforementioned Star Wars Eclipse is supposedly in a "development nightmare", and may not be ready for launch until 2026.
How do you feel about all of this Star Wars stuff? Tell us how much is too much in the comments section below.

I'm looking forward to a lot of the stuff they've announced, but there's such a thing as too much.
Franchise fatigue will bite sooner or later.
As I said elsewhere, I’m hoping for Detention Level Garbage Masher Simulator.
That and Podracer for PSVR2 and a follow up to Star Wars Squadron 2 for PSVR2.
Super Bombad Racing 2 and Masters of the Teras Kasi 2 would be awesome as well. Infact, stick them in VR too. Haha
@Shepherd_Tallon I think many would argue that Star Wars franchise fatigue bit a long time ago. But then I would imagine that Disney's profits probably say differently!
The Star Wars brand is large enough world-building-wise and genre-wise, that this can go down really well if they play their cards right. I mean this is essentially how it was about 20 years ago, with the huge influx of games both good and bad as the prequels were releasing.
I’m personally incredibly excited for Jedi: Survivor next year, but anything else on the slate is way too far off for me to get excited about yet.
Meh not a fan of star wars but Disney hasn't really published anything other than star wars or marvel games recently anyway so not like I'll be missing out on anything
I think one big game per year is a reasonable tempo for the franchise. If they want to also have a smaller game in between that’s okay too, but it’s treading lightly into over-saturation if they push it too much beyond that. It kind of depends what the games are. If one year is Jedi: Soulslike, and then the next year it’s Battlefront 3, and the next year it’s a LEGO game, and the next year it’s a narrative story driven choice game, etc, then I think it’s fine since they are different genres of games
That's the Pokemon way of life
Yeah remember when Disney wanted to release a new star wars movie every year from 2015 onwards? How did that go? Less is more.
Now we got an endless stream of shows but the movies are pretty much at a stand still.
The last two films, 8 & 9, threw me right off Star Wars. I'll have to re-watch the entire series of The Clone Wars to get that magic back.
Cant wait - The Mastertronic £2.99 range reborn in Star Wars titles
Seems alright for me. Will pretty much be like the mid 90s till just up to around 2010. And each game will have a different dev team so it shouldn’t be an issue
Mmm, yes, spoonfeed me that Star Wars daddy Disney.
Not satire.
Star Wars.
As long as one of them is a Squadrons PSVR 2 port then I'll be happy.
I want the wireframe arcade game done, that was my favourite 😀
Disney is determined to ruin their franchises with over-exposure, weak storytelling and not actually understanding the lore, and Star Wars is suffering from this more than any other.
@ShogunRok I definitely agree.
Since the exclusivity with EA ran out and we started getting good narrative driven titles I've been on a renewed buzz with Star Wars games. But if they clutter the calendar for the sake of it I'll start to drift away again.
At least two of these AAA titles are having issues in development too. It all makes me worry.
Disney laughs in the face of franchise fatigue, expect a new Marvel or Star Wars game to be uncovered by the end of the week!
Anyone sick of Star Wars yet?
Darth EA.
I guess that's life.
They can make as many as they want, and I will play the ones I'm interested in, and leave the others. Most people probably feel this way? You can't get fatigue if you don't force yourself into every single release.
But I do I remember saying I'm really interested to see how Eclipse goes, with an art-house, auteur style approach applied to such a big popcorn/blockbuster brand. Is the development hell perhaps creative differences? 😬😬😬
As long as the quality is good then I'm all for it. 1 AAA title a year is perfectly fine when there's multiple studios doing their own things. Bring it on.
Yeah Disney, do it like your Disney +.
Release a lot of content with bad quality.
Oh dear. It's back to the 'throw ideas at the wall and see what sticks' approach instead of making quality over quantity.
They should probably go back and pump some money into SWOTR since that is relatively ignored for the most part with Knights of the Fallen Empire being like that last huge expansion in 2015 followed by what I consider small updates. We did just get Legacy of the Sith but you can finish it in like 2 hrs.
Disney never understood "oversaturating the market" is a bad thing and devalues any brand. the same goes for "quantity over quality". Then again, Disney is garbage.
@Brydontk Star Bores.
Pet baby yoda 2000 times for a trophy
If they’re all good then by all means keep em coming.
Thanks for setting the mood with another dumb snarky article full of hyperbole. "Aaah, they ruin Star wars, they ruin my childhood, yadayadayada". So called fanboys ruin things for themselves and want the rest of the world be just as miserable.
@riceNpea and the Marvel content lately has been atrocious, She Hulk in particular.
@Msw7089 She Hulk and Ms Marvel have been absolute rubbish. Whoever is writing these shows has no interest in telling a story that isn't an excersize in trying to get across a point they're dieing to make.
as long as their not mobile games , i watched the original trilogy as a kid love the galaxy and all the characters in it, i love getting lost in the lore of these games.
Jedi Survivor is the only SW property I care about, so I hope they don't disappoint with that one.
I'd love to see them make something in the vein of the old Jedi Knight games, 2 and 3 were exceptional for the time. I'd guess their stories are now Legend status, but if like to see something that takes that style of 1st/3rd person dynamic lightsaber fighting with the force powers that kinda interplay. Fallen Order scratched that itch at a very surface level, but it kinda felt more like the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy than it did the classic Star Wars games.
@BeerIsAwesome Agreed. I finished up pretty much everything up to the end of the new jedi order series this year after several years of intense reading and its really terrible that all those beloved characters, eg the solo twins, Corran horn, kyp durron, gavin darklighter and more are not canon and they couldn't come up with any characters anywhere near as good. All those beloved stories thrown out cause disney think they can do better.
Ps, they can't. Well Filoni and Favreau maybe
@riceNpea exactly, which is why i haven't attempted to look at ms marvel or she hulk for that very reason. Absolute trash. Watching people trash the shows on youtube is way more interesting lol
In gaming I don’t think there’s any Star Wars fatigue at all tbh. Historically Star Wars games have been dog.
I’m an old fashioned Star Wars fan and as a kid I dreamt of great Star Wars games and basically never really got them.
Until such a time as there is an actually an established trend of genuinely good Star Wars games, I’m still very much hungry.
Having said that I also miss arcadey games with loads of unlockables, governed by simplicity and hunger for Star Wars games a bit like the old vehicle combat arena one I can remember. I also remember loving masters of Teras Kasai as a kid even though it got panned. I didn’t care- it was a Star Wars beat em up which let you unlock a new character every time you beat it. The days of games like that seem long gone and I often bemoan the new era of gamers who are DISGUSTED by having to actually play tk unlock characters and stuff. To me - that was what I wanted to play for.
I digress a bit. But either way, I’m very hungry for a range of new Star Wars games and kinda want them like right now! Both big new AAA adventure games and smaller arcade based games. I don’t even especially want them to be original. In a way I want the nostalgia of my youth rendered with modern graphics and games engines. I’m even slighy turned off when I hear that it won’t REALLY be Star Wars cos it’ll just be some bugger inventing a whole load of non-canon characters and claiming it’s Star Wars.
The conclusion of the (intolerably excessive) rant might actually just be that I’m kinda old now. I’ll get my coat.
I was getting Star Wars fatigue but Andor is absolutely incredible so far. Seriously recommend it.
I don't mind if it's good games, but i doubt it's gonna happen.
Even George Lucas knew that too much of something is a bad thing. Disney are just interested in short term profits to show to their shareholders every year. They're nothing more than a factory making and licensing "content".
Oversaturation is always a good thing.
@Shepherd_Tallon Unless of course most of it gets cancelled or postponed like those announced movies. Feels like Disney’s just repeating their lack of ability to prepare but in a different medium.
Star Wars has so many different areas of interest (jedi with swords, fighter pilots with ships, bounty hunters, foot soldiers, etc) that I feel like every 6 months would be acceptable as long as it doesn't turn into the same kind of game every 6 months.
I'll never get tired of new Star Wars games, bring them all on!
