PS4 users might want to start clearing some hard drive space for God of War Ragnarok as it's been confirmed the Sony game weighs in at well over 100GB. The install size seems to differ between regions, but as of right now, it's 106.9GB in the USA and 118.519GB in Europe on version 1.01.
Although, Sony's Kraken compression tech has shaved more than 20GB off the file size of the PS5 version. God of War Ragnarok is currently 84GB on the platform holder's latest system, again running on version 1.01. It's still going to take up a large chunk of space on PS5 — especially with an SSD that's only 825GB in size — but it is good to see one of the console's features continue to reduce installs.
Pre-load is said to be available from 2nd November 2022, and then reviews will hit a day later, including one from Push Square. A wave of previews based on reviewers' first impressions will be published tomorrow. Which version of God of War Ragnarok will you be playing? Clear space in the comments below.

What's with the extra 12GB on ps4 EU version? Extra languages or something?
Games should come on pre loaded external harddrives, or cartridges
@Dr_Derp I was thinking, maybe next gen they will move to memory cards for games, but that will screw up backwards compatibility, unless they will also sell some disc drives separately for disc games.
That’s still a pretty big file on PS5. Takes up 10% of the available storage space!
@Uromastryx You know... plain text takes a lot of space... 🤣🤣🤣
I understand 100GB in huge games like Final Fantasy, but God of War... so it means it will be on 2 discs like Cyberpunk?
@Th3solution 20% if you keep free space ready for patching.
@Sil_Am you will be lucky to get a physical media option next gen.
@djlard God of War Ragnarok is a 30 to 40 hour game that’s pretty huge.
@djlard Yeah, true. I guess I should invest in an SSD expansion, but I’ve become used to just deleting and reinstalling games. Pretty soon if these games keep growing I’ll only have enough space for like 4 games! 😅
@4kgk2 possibly more
Looks like I’ll have to be treating myself to a 1tb SSD sooner than later
@4kgk2 it's also shot in 1 take so no loading,.just at the start then that's it, so yeah quite massive plus 30 to 50 I'd say more likely exploration time side quests and possibly dieing/ getting lost 🤣
Hopefully a decent SSD price come black Friday
This is why having a hard drive bigger than the base PS4 was always the opposite of a problem. Never understood people getting frustrated by it.
Don't know if things have changed much on ps5, but wish there was a more modular approach to things like language installation on ps4 as despite being an English speaking country, down under has always be linked to the EU PSN so we'll get the bigger install!
Oh well, though big much like HZD,unlike stuff like RDR 2 or GTA V,at least it won't have online bloatware so hopefully by the time the patches are sorted out it will only add an extra 15-20gb. 🤞
Edit: Wrong GTA Entry...d'oh!😅
Thats a lot of hard drive for the g.o.a.t. 🐐 👑 kratos.another masterpiece coming.word up son
This is why i got my 1TB SSD, very wise if pricey purchase.
Like how devs celebrate "going gold" but 3 weeks before release they're already up to version 1.01. 😂 People buying the disc Black Friday will have to install 12GB of updates to get to version 1.18. 😉
@djlard In God of War there is spoken VA for almost all European countries. This takes space and you cannot delete the languages you do not need. I want to keep only English and my native, I have no need for German, Spanish, Italian, etc.
Glad I bought a 1TB m.2 expansion this would have needed to delete things for the first time.
Yep gonna have to invest in an external ssd for ps5 as AAA game sizes now are mostly getting up towards 100gb ,it's nothing new but it certainly fills up ps5 internal ssd pretty quickly ,all gd though
Guys, how many games do you keep installed ??? I have like 8-9 and actually always have 1 or 2 that I actually play (excluding Astro, Unravel and Hotwheels that my daughter likes) but still, you can alwasy remove a game that just sits there. And I still have 300GB free.
@Sergo I think you run into trouble if you like playing a lot of the gigantic Western AAA live service / multiplayer stuff that isn't one and done. As someone who doesn't hoard installs and avoids AAA games for the most part, though, I've found even my PS4's base 500GB hard drive to be adequate for my needs.
@Sil_Am kinda like the separate disc drive that PS5 is getting soon?
@Sergo I have 29 games installed on my PS5 with 135GB left in the stock SSD. No external.
@belmont it doesn't need to take up space for everyone though. Not sure if EU games do this, but some NA games will have separate downloads for different languages. Witcher 3 for example comes with English and you can download French or Polish separately.
So you just need to include the region's base language(s) and let people download any others they want separately.
@Milktastrophe good lad I also think it is enough what we have as stock ssd
@Ralizah hmm, you are right here. I am not familiar with those. This reminds me of a friend, crazy fan of MS flight simulator on PC. Damn.... there were soooo many addons. Once he spent one whole day reinstalling those to a new PC .
That’s a lot of trolls.
Hopefully a large file size means alot of content to sink my teeth into 👍🏻
@Uromastryx the ps5 has far superior compression than the ps4. On occasions i've found the ps5 versions of the same ps4 game to be around half the file size so i'm assuming this accounts for the lower install size.
Note to self, make sure to beat any games left installed on my PS5! So I can delete them to make room for God of War.
I suspect most PS4 users have got a healthy size of external HDD space available that they can install to and, more importantly, play from. Looks like it'll be 2 discs for the PS4 with its 50Gb per disc limit?
PS5 SSD is 825GB in size but only about 650 of that is available for use after the system has claimed some of it. Real time compression is good but it's quite a small size of storage.
