A native PS5 version of Obsidian's excellent sci-fi RPG The Outer Worlds has been rated by the Taiwanese ratings board, suggesting that an updated version of the game could be heading to current-gen consoles.
Called 'The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition', it would make sense for this version of the game to come bundled with the title's two meaty expansions, Peril on Gorgon and Murder on Eridanos, although that is yet to be confirmed. A 60 frames-per-second patch for PS4 was released ahead of the launch of Murder on Eridanos, it's worth noting.
When it was released in 2019, The Outer Worlds was received well, with Take-Two president Karl Slatoff stating that the title was "exceeding our expectations" in sales. Sadly for the PlayStation faithful, its sequel, The Outer Worlds 2, will not be released on our platform of choice, with Obsidian's acquisition by Microsoft meaning this native PS5 version is likely the last time this series will grace our screens.

great game really enjoyed the outer worlds
Sucks when everyone cant play everything
Great game, but lame cash grab. This game doesn't need a native version. I played through all of it last year on PS5; it ran and looked as great as that art style will allow. Haptics, a small bump in resolution, and some better effects will not make this worth it.
We have got to come together and stop buying into this shameless repackaging and reselling of old content.
It's getting out of hand and completely crippling that creativity that made many of theses successful studios great. They are all being sucked away from the art of it in favor of the potential to make more money off old content via the gullible masses. It's crazy to me that nearly every first party Sony studio has done this as well in the last 24 months. I once thought them above this and their reputation suggested it.
Lmfao nope!!!
Greed, the great corruptor. Only a small few see beyond this self created enslavement humanity is now in.
Well, if #2 isnβt coming to PS5 I donβt see why Iβd want to play #1.
I could not get into this game at all. I found it interesting at first but started to get a bit bored but i'll admit it was not a great time for me as i was in a very dark place for such a long time so i may give it another go some day now i've got better clarity and a rather cynical but slightly more positive outlook..
i loved outter worlds i grinded that much i was over powered lol. well this is silly ive an xbox they dont want to make money??? ive outterworlds on steam,xbox,playstation and switch ah well their loss.
( if i was a developer id release on everything plus xbox360 and ps3 ive no idea but if i did sure il be a genius lol )
yes my crew uniform was matching armor and the moon bobble head πππππ
@Northern_munkey I had the same. The beginning was fine but then the game lost me. It's like it really tried to be a Fallout game, but on their own terms and it kinda didn't worked..
Did they ever fixed the movement? It was too slow for my taste.
Well, maybe VG steaming will have taken off for MS by the time OW2 releases.
I've had this wishlisted on PS4 for a while. So if this is true i suppose i'll get the PS5 version instead assuming it does package in the dlc
@Mad001 if you've seriously bought the first one four times, then they probably don't care if you skip the second. They've already made plenty off you.
This is a kick in the teeth for playstation only users, it's like saying please fund our next game... that you won't be able to play. It's quite devious actually, trying to get more money from the PlayStation fan base before they go fully xbox only.
@Milktastrophe π geez i didn't think about that π€¦ππ
@Al3 To my surprise, on the official website, Pentiment by Obsidian is described as "console launch exclusive". I could see it coming to PS as well for that reason. Or it will just be on Switch, that's obviously another possibility, too.
@KundaliniRising333
βWe have got to come together and stop buying into this shameless repackaging and reselling of old content.β
As someone who hasnβt played it yet, Iβm very happy that, when I do, it will be a better version. Haptics, more solid framerate, faster load times, trophy tracking, etc.
Of course itβs not worth it for those who have already bought the game, but itβs obviously an improvement (however slight it might be) for those who havenβt.
Really donβt get why people canβt see that this is only a good thing for those who havenβt played it.
@Northern_munkey Exactly my case + the loading time was a killer for me, I couldn't do it. I'm looking for this only if the price is right.
Ashly Burch is great in this as the adorable Parvati.
I have this in my physical collection of backlog games so if there's a reasonable upgrade price I might try it, if not it'll likely remain never played like so many other games...
@Northern_munkey Hey man, never give up the fight. Sometimes it gets rough and feels hopeless, but you can and will get through it. Much blessings to you amigo, hang in there, you got this. πβ€οΈ
Like Fallout 3 and 4 I played for about 20 or so hours and then burnt out. I'm just not really into these FPS RPGs personally. Cyberpunk is probably the only one I could see myself finishing at some point.
@Northern_munkey keep fighting the good fight, hope you get through it man β₯οΈ
@ApostateMage I almost forgot how great of an npc Parvati was damn. For what was a relatively short game they really knocked her character arc out of the park.
@kundalinirising333 perfectly said and 100% true.
sadly so many back sony and buy them they will keep on coming.
ps5 is going to be the console of remakes
Great game. Shame no one can play any future titles from them
@Mad001 It's because Microsoft brought the developers so now they exclusively develop for PC and Xbox.
@dschons It's a console exclusive for Xbox Series X. Obsidian is not releasing anymore titles for Sony or Nintendo ever since Microsoft brought them.
@IronTruth What makes you think that? Microsoft is very specific with their descriptions and "console launch exclusive" has always pertained to titles that come to multiple consoles but to Xbox first. Most of the upcoming Bethesda titles will be likely exclusive but that won't be the case for every title. As Phil Spencer has said: It will be decided on a case by case basis. Unlike Starfield or Outer Worlds 2 which are specifically described as Xbox exclusive.
@KundaliniRising333 Do you want this thing to stop? Then the answer is simple: Stop buying it. Itβs the same with preordering games - it makes absolutely no sense. People preorder games and then get burned when itβs a buggy mess, or it reviewed poorly (Battlefield 2042). Moreover, why do people preorder anyway? I have never once had an issue finding a physical copy of a game on release day. Not once. My local Walmart or Game Stop had plenty of copies. And then there is of course the digital route. At the end of the day, I agree with your sentiment about developers trying to get a cash grab; but itβs also up to the consumer. Are you sick of Call of Duty and Assassinβs Creed releasing every year? Stop buying it, plain and simple. Unfortunately, people wonβt.
Surprised they would loop around for a PS5 version after the Microsoft acquisition but that's cool. I would assume PS4 owners won't be offered upgrades if it includes the DLC. I have the game on PS4 but didn't really get into. For whatever reason it didn't click - I think I may have been burnt out on the 3D Fallout style of game from Fallout 76 at the time, or I just don't have the time/patience to open every chest and read every log since becoming a parent.
@IronTruth im a pc gamer fun side of I.T tech lol
To me this feels wrong. They need to be very very clear that you cant play the 2nd one on Ps5 so people can make an informed choice about getting into a franchise that they can't fully enjoy on thier choice of hardware.
@thefourfoldroot1
Absolutely this. I'm sick and tired of smug people who played a game in the past ragging on newer versions with more polish because THEY don't need them.
As an option for those who may want to play now, there is no harm at all in releasing a current version. You don't want it? Fine, no one is forcing your hand. Just move on and let those that want it have the choice.
"Only a few can see beyond their own choices and allow others to have other needs"
@valgore if a game is worth it then play it. its like saying dont play days gone as there isnt a second.
@Cherip-the-Ripper @Amusei thankyou. I'm all good(ish) now and have been for quite a while but its still nice especially when total strangers wish you well..again thanks π
@tintin the people who wanted to play the game most likely have already done so, it isnt going to pull many new players at all tbh.
people who want to ignore it will, just as those who want to buy it will.
being able to say you arent happy with the direction certain things are going is allowed too
I dont see what the problem is loads of games release a complete version with all the dlc at a later date . weve had game of the year versions since the ps3 era
I wonder what happens to those PS4/PS5 only gamers who really enjoyed this first one knowing full well the sequel they can't play. What's going through their heads, does it not matter to you. I suppose it's your choice and there's nothing wrong with that. The only reason I have the Hellblade platinum cause I purchased it before knowing that it's sequel is Xbox only, if I'd have known before purchase then I most likely wouldn't have bothered. Of course none of this would be a problem if can afford all the latest new consoles but that's not always an option for so many. Yh I might have missed out on the first Outter worlds game, seems like a decent time but I feel I'd miss out much more playing the first and not being able to play the sequel. No regrets skipping Ghostwire Tokyo, Deathloop and this OutterWorlds for these reasons
@Oz_Momotaro
Yes they are being attacked or did you not bother reading the full trail? Among other things, someone buying a new version (like I was pleased to do for TLOU) is being called 'gullible masses' among many other smug put downs.
I am also fine playing old games from time to time and right now the game I'm playing most was brought out last gen - that's irrelevant.
People were being 'targeted' for wishing to play a current gen version. Why shouldn't they? Nobodies saying they have to to enjoy the game, but if the devs wish to make it and see more of their vision realized, then why shouldn't those new to the game get to play the best version of it, even if they would have enjoyed the previous version? Or for that matter someone so invested in the title they wish to play it again ever so slightly better?
"That's like saying you won't play any game that isn't native PS5... and if that's your gaming view, then it's very limited and I feel sorry for you."
Don't feel sorry for me, as I don't say or think that at all.
@stvevan Not at all. When the game first came out, Yes everyone should play it because we didn't know there would be a No2 and that Microsoft were going to make future instalments exclusive but now we do know for sure that no2 won't be on PS, so new players that might buy the ps5 version should know this and make an informed decision.
Unless we get a free upgrade, no thanks.
Maybe it is a free upgrade, nobody knows.
@Beerheadgamer82 Same here why play it if i can never play the second part.
Ah, the old Pump & Dump...
@Northern_munkey Glad you are doing better these days, itβs actually a pretty cool game. I enjoyed the atmosphere and some of the characters. Definitely give it a go!
@Blacksmith1985 @GigaGaia @Sqush-Pare I know I won't be buying this if it ain't a free upgrade or $10 for existing owners.
