A new firmware update for the PS5 is available to download and install now, but don’t expect any major changes. The latest software – which weighs in at around 1.08GB – promises “improved system performance”, so expect various bug fixes and security tweaks behind-the-scenes, rather than any forward-facing features.
For those of you keeping check, the update is labelled 22.02-06.00.01, and you can refer to your console’s Settings to ensure it’s been successfully installed. The last major PS5 firmware update introduced Game Lists and 1440p support, as well as a variety of user interface optimisations. It’s rumoured that Discord will be integrated as part of the platform’s next major update.

Wonder if this has anything to do with the jailbreaking story from earlier in the week - but then that was only affecting consoles running older firmware
It's so funny when you think of it...each fw update during the lifecycle of the console says it improves system performance & stability...how super-broken must've the OG firmware been? How did SONY dare to release such a product to retail?
I was hoping it would be an update to let me disable that new Continue Where You Left Off feature.
The feature itself is fine, but the bland screenshots that replace the lovely art work are, well, bland. Leave the feature, just stop replacing the artwork.
I've yet to see anyone else complain about this though so maybe I'm just being a little too particular.
@Shepherd_Tallon Exactly.
@Shepherd_Tallon I'm not even sure what you're referring to.
@Rob_230 I should imagine it is to stop the Jailbreak.
@Shepherd_Tallon absolutely agreed!
YES! FINALLY we get (system performance) and (various bug fixes)! I've waited so LONG for this!
@get2sammyb Basically when I turn my PS5 on the default tile is Forbidden West as my last played game.
It has the lovely background art theme for that game, and all is well.
But if I navigate around and then go back to that tile, the quick resume feature overlays it all and the background has been replaced with a brown-orange screenshot telling my to resume the arena at Chainscrape or whatever.
If anyone knows of a way to disable that please tell me so I can hate myself for not knowing.
Hopefully they’ll begin the beta for the discord integration this year. Really looking forward to that integration.
@tofuman86 I remember that ps4 was the most broken console I ever played but Sony managed to fix it in less than a year..ps5 was very stable from the beginning.
I hope they fix the dualsense controllers not having a stable connection, I never had this problem with any other console.
@get2sammyb Been playing through Ghost of Tsushima, and since the update, my lovely art of Jin contemplating the Ghost mask has been replaced with ‘Continue Where You Left Off’, and it loves to suggest tales of Ishikawa for me to complete, complete with a picture of Ishikawa ready for action!
@BrintaPap agreed! I have a similar issue. About 50% of the time when I turn my PS5 back on from sleeping the controllers don't connect. So I have to restart the PS5 to get them to connect. I've had my PS5 a year now, and I'm a bit frustrated Sony doesn't have a fix for this yet.
@Jeaz i doubt it , xbox is always 2 steps ahead with features
Yanno, I personally expect a crap ton of noticeable “performance improvements” for a ~1GB download.
Is it me or do system updates like this just seem… really bloated for such a meaningless release note (especially one seen time after time)?? 🤔😕
Would be nice at game library to 'select a single tile', press options & have 'check for update'. Having to start something , then hit with an update.
@Shepherd_Tallon I had to login to my PS5 to see what you are talking about.
On the games I have "resume" on I have beautiful art but it is different to the main art, I logged into my secondary account to check. I think this is tied to the card activity artwork so is developer controlled. Though I agree there should perhaps be a toggle to return it to the primary art. That would be better than disabling the feature.
Hopefully it fixes the WIFI card bug on the older PS5s because sheesh having to restart every time for my WIFI to work is insane.
@BrintaPap me and my missus have had a PS5 since day one and have put some serious hours into it and have never had connection issues with the Dualsense. So its either a controller or console issue for you.
After making my folders in the "my collection" area ive found that adding another title to it theres no auto alphabetical sorting or any option to move games within the created group. First world probs i know but surely a basic ??
I wish my PS5 would stop spinning up the disc drive nearly every time I open a Media app. Or during every hour in general.
It performed so well after the new update that I gave my PS5 a standing ovation.
I don't think i ever felt a performance increase from these patches and i am always suspect of what they are doing and not saying.
@Rob_230 No, the jailbreak is working with version 4.? and prior, while the last major update with 1440p display support etc. is version 6.
@themightyant Yeah that's exactly it. The feature is great, but for example sometimes on RE8 I end up with a very pixelated image. A toggle for the background would be great.
It's a shame because the PS5 home screen UI is otherwise very nice. Probably my favourite on a console so far.
@Rob_230 i thought the same thing
I just want them to fix when it shows a ps4 game tile everytime I want to play the ps5 version ,its really getting on my tatties
@Shepherd_Tallon Also love the clean UI on PS5. Which as a UI designer myself is rare! Elegant simplicity.
@themightyant Ah very cool! I didn't realise that's what you did.
We had one UI designer in my class in college. You never saw so many people be so nice to one person 😂
Totally doesn't have anything to do due to the exploit made few days ago 😁
@Nem it's less about performance and more of keeping ahead of jailbreakers. Fixing kernel exploits and such.
The only thing I noticed with the new update is that the HDR Settings have moved in the Display menu - I don't remember HDR settings being all the way at the bottom.
Also, was ALLM Mode always in System Settings?
Effin gutted. Was doing the terminator resistance infiltrator dlc last night. Which is a no save mission. I did every target on it and before I knew it was time for bed, with have to get up for work just over 5hrs later. I thought I would do the final two trophies when I got home tonight. So I put it in rest mode, to find this bloody update has closed the game and lost all the progress. Waste of a good hour.
@BrintaPap @LoopBak127 I hate that. It happens to me too, tho less than you're 50%. Makes me so worried to turn a game off without first saving my game. Just a good thing games boot up so fast nowadays. If this was a problem back in the day then it would be even more excruciating a problem
@Shepherd_Tallon
Yep, sucks.
@Rob_230 Doubtful. The exploit was 4.03, many firmware updates have occurred since then. Sony would’ve been aware of the vulnerability and had it patched in one of the past updates. If this update was to do with the hack then it would be working with later firmwares all the way up to the most current prior to this one.
@LoopBak127
I have this exact problem. So frustrating. Every time there’s a firmware update I cross my fingers…and then get disappointed
