Fans of Sega Dreamcast — and eventually PS2 — classic Resident Evil Code: Veronica X may want to forget about their hopes and dreams of a PS5, PS4 remake as Capcom has once again shot down the possibility of it happening. In a new interview with Noisy Pixel, Resident Evil 4 producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi said the company doesn't have any "concrete plans" to remake Claire and Chris Redfield's trip to Rockfort Island.
He does offer a slither of hope to fans, claiming Capcom might do it if the "opportunity comes" up, but after the success of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and the presumed accomplishments of the aforementioned Resident Evil 4, it doesn't seem like there'll be a better chance than right now to bring back Code: Veronica X. For now, however, the oft-requested remake doesn't appear to be in the works.
Nevertheless, it's going to be interesting to see what Capcom does once it's finished with the Resident Evil 4 remake. We can't imagine Resident Evil 5 or Resident Evil 6 will be next in line for a modern version, so maybe it will turn its attention to other franchises. Dino Crisis or Onimusha remakes, anyone? Check back in two to three years and maybe there'll be an answer.

I feel like Devil May Cry 2 deserves another shot through a remake. Hopefully something reimagined, cuz even tho the execution is pretty bad, there are some solid concepts there.
I personally find that sad if they don’t as I LOVE Code Veronica, but even if they were working on it, they aren’t going to tell us yet. Rumors were going around about them remaking RE4 for some time before it was officially announced and they wouldn’t confirm anything then either. Who knows what else they are currently working on.
Do it. You can easily improve it by fixing the soft lock situations and the backtracking.
They will probably remaster the Resi 4 remake for a couple of generations based on history
Better go for new installment in the series.
Village is awesome.
In spring we will get remake.
New game should be next.
I am more than sure that Veronica will get announced that it will get the remake treatment sooner than later. It’s probably the one that most fans would want to see. It would definitely sell exceptionally well. I also also like to see Capcom branch off into other series’. Devil May Cry 1 - 3, Dino Crisis and Onimusha would be amazing remakes with the RE engine!!!
@Bionic-Spencer onimusha needs to come back eventually though nioh did a good job scratching that itch. Perhaps the Netflix Anime will spark more interest.
Anyways, code Veronica is long overdue, though I do prefer RE9.
I'm all for Modern Onimusha!!!
I didn't imagine Resident Evil 4 would get a remake, so I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they do churn out a remake of Resident Evil 5 next...
They should remake re5 not 6.
I honestly have no idea where Capcom will go after REmake 4. Remaking 5 would garner divisive press, for sure, and, following that, remaking 6 would actively make many RE fans feeling concerned. I’m hoping that 4 is the last of the REmakes, personally.
@C25CLOUD
RE5 & 6 are complete oddballs and don't deserve a remake. CV is the only place Capcom can go after RE4
I'd love a remake of Code Veronica and a part of me wants them to remake 5 and 6. I want to see if they can make those action games fit into the horror style but if they can't then they shouldn't touch them, and really think they can't.
rather have new onimusha game probably a reboot
i dont see code veronica being remade since its not the mainline game
also about 5&6 capcom can fix what went wrong these games with a remake
Of course they’ll do it, the remakes have been good so far but after 4 they are getting into scraping the barrel territory and Code Veronica is the only one that still makes sense.
Would be a shame, since Code Veronica is such a good game.
But I have the feeling, this entry gets the lowest attention in the series.
It be funny if they got to 6, called it Resident Evil 6 Remake, and the game literally shares absolutely nothing in common with the RE6 we all know and love. 😆
I actually like RE5 well enough(excellent co-op game) but I don't think they need to touch that one. Code Veronica, or heck the original would probably be the best choice if they continue with the remakes.
Please make new games. Thank you.
@Korgon Who loves RE6? Lol.
So basically a never say never thing.
@somnambulance I think RE6 was better than RE5.
@arra1213 Shinji Mikami was against numbering Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. It was going to be a spinoff called Resident Evil 1.9
He said the real sequel was supposed to be CODE: Veronica, because it was a proper continuation of Resident Evil 2 and was a better game.
The only reason it didn't get called RE3 is because it was a dreamcast exclusive and the first two were Sony exclusives. Sony wanted the numbered titles on their console. Code Veronica is the true spiritual successor to RE2 and that's from the legend Mikami himself.
The fans deserve a remake of Code Veronica and most have been begging for it for years.
@Stevey_Mac i know my point here is capcom is just interested on remaking the mainline games for now
and we all know that cv sales are low compared to other games in the series
maybe capcom is just on the waiting game for the moment
Onimusha remake would be amazing.i like the ps4 remastered version.cant wait for dragon dogma 2.dragon dogma dark arisen is and was amazing.one of the best games ever made.yeah a resident evil code Veronica remake is definitely coming at some point.word up son
Well after 4 releases, they will be searching for content to fill out their remake instalments that run parallel to new entires. A proper remake of 1 is probably priority, then theres only reall CV left (they act like 5 & 6 dont exisit anyhow)...so im sure it will become a possibilty. I hope so, its the only entry i never gave a go.
thank god. one less remake.
far too many this generation.
@Snake_V5 I didn’t really love either game, but 5’s game modes outside the main story make me feel nostalgic, as I had a lot more fun with them than the story. However, 5 has more of a story that could be salvageable for a remake, in my opinion. 6 just felt like Resident Evil 5 2 for me, which made me sour on the franchise for a while.
Given how Capcom’s been lately, I think they’ve gotten a lot better on QC than the RE5 and 6 days though, so I’m looking forward to what’s next, regardless of what it is.
I think we will get another new installment before another remake. And I think the original will get a brand new remake before code V. However, saying that. My personal choice would be for a Dino Crisis remake. We haven't had a decent Dino game for many years, and I think they could really do it justice.
I would love a CV remake. I bet they do a new remake of the original before we get it though!
Well... that's less money for Capcom from me then.
Would I like to see RE code Veronica X get a much deserved polish up even if it meant putting up with Steve again, yep! 😅
That said RE 3 remake needs a remake given all the cuts made to the original...or just give us the PS1 Classics on Deluxe!
If they ever bothered fixing the dumb A.I. of your companion in RE 5,it might actually make playing it in single player mode less of a chore!🤔
Otherwise it & RE6 can stay buried where the E.T. cartridges were buried!😅
Remakes/remasters....is it worth having this current gen?
Getting quite sick of it as someone who has gamed since the late 70s. It's bad enough that PS4 is holding PS5 back. I've actually started moving towards PC... Games like Cyberpunk and Plague Tale Requiem are vastly superior.
Wow I am surprised that CV gets so much love. I thought this game was generally not well received. I mean a remake would be a good idea for me since I don't like the OG game that much, but the game needs a lot of changes in the story. Steve and Alfred are some of the worst characters in RE. The whole concept of Alfred is bonkers even for RE standards and I never got around the suggestive stuff that clearly Steve tried to do to Claire while she was sleeping in the plane. Also, he sounds very bad even for RE voice acting.
@Stevey_Mac Nemesis and Veronica were both intended to be spinoffs.
@jrt87 You might have hit the nail on the head, I never gave that a thought that Capcom might not want to touch Alfred’s character in 2022. It’s a different time now and makes total sense why they skipped over Code Veronica. I’m still hopeful that they will remake it though.
@Orpheus79V Shinji Mikami said in an interview:-
"On the other hand, Resident Evil - Code: Veronica, which isn't a numbered title, that game is a title that deserved more to be a numbered one. It didn't end up becoming one for political reasons between Capcom and the console manufacturing company. Personally I wanted it to be a numbered title."
Sony wanted the numbered titles on their console.
@Stevey_Mac didn't code Veronica (original dreamcast) come out at the same time, or very close to playstations resident evil 3? I remember playing code Veronica first, going back to the playstation to play 3 felt like a bit of a downgrade at the time.
@Balosi Code Veronica came out in Feb 2000 and RE3 came out in Sep 1999. Short window between them both though yea.
I would love remakes for both CV and 0
Boooo code Veronica needed a remake more than 4 hopefully they aren't thinking of remaking 5 & leaving code Veronica out
Code Veronica sucked so it would make a lot of sense to try to fix it up into something good.
Big sigh. Unbelievable how they remake RE3 but don't remake code veronica (the real RE3).
Lets hope they come to their senses soon.
Code veronica is a very god game that needs a remake yes it playable in its old forms on current consoles but my god its old the tank controls show just how old it is
That's not a 100% no answer, so I'm sure fans will still be holding out hope.
Prob worth mentioning that the original code Veronica is only 3.99 in the halloween sale. Though I was surprised to discover that its a direct ps2 port rather than the more polished (if I recall correctly) ps3 version.
@EvilSilentFrame if history is correct but its funny Code Veronica doesn't get the love it deserves due to the fact Resident Evil 3 actually is Resident Evil Code Veronica.
The story goes that they was hard at work on the third gamez when Sony came to them and asked for a sequel asap on the huge success of 2, but it was such a way off that they put code Veronica on the back burner and quickly made Resi3 to capitalise on the success.
You can actually tell that resi3 was more of what we now call DLC rather than an actual sequel.
Game length for 3 is around 6 or so hours.
Code Veronica is 12hours.
Boooomm blown your mind hahaha
@Stevey_Mac Code Veronica was Resi3 but Sony wanted it asap which wasn't possible so they used resi2 assets and quickly made resi3. But reality is resi3 may never of existed if Sony hadn't demanded a quicker turn around.
But Code Veronica is the true sequel to resi2
@Bez87 I do remember them talking about how Veronica was supposed to be 3 and then they decided to make Nemesis into 3 to have a trilogy on a single system.
I think a remake of Veronica will sell well. So many people played the remake of 2 and a lot of them were new players and didn’t play 2 originally. They would finally be able to see what happens with Clair and Chris if the Veronica remake was to happen. Who knows, Capcom could currently be working on it. They aren’t going to tell us ahead of time before it’s announcement.
@EvilSilentFrame maybe but I doubt they remake code Veronica, so many people passed on it because it wasn't a numbered entry to the series.
It makes sense that it was ment to be 3 as why is resi 3 Jill Valentine and then she never shows up in any other game again properly, also Code Veronica is Claire and 4 is Leon both characters from 2.
It would make sense to remake both 4 and Code Veronica remakes even before 3 as it would carry on the story of both the main characters.

@Bez87 I personally think they remade 3 so fast because parts of the assets for 3 were done already when they remade 2. Though I didn’t hate 3 like others have, I don’t think Capcom put in the effort like they did with 2 or are doing with 4. I think for them, 3 was a quicker way to make some money.
