The wait is over: Overwatch 2 has now officially released into early access on PS5 and PS4, available for everyone to play right this minute as a free-to-play title. Servers are being switched on at the same time this article goes live, so if you didn't pre-load the game in the three hours prior, head on over to the PS Store and get downloading if you want.
Overwatch 2 essentially replaces the original 2016 title, with Overwatch no longer playable now the sequel's out. Don't worry, though, as long as you log into the same account, all your currencies and items accrued from loot boxes will carry over. The controversial system won't be part of Overwatch 2; instead, there's a Battle System with both a free and paid tier.
New hero Kiriko will be unlocked automatically if you purchase the premium tier, or you'll have to work through the levels to get her free of charge. Meanwhile, Sojourn and Junker Queen are unlocked for everyone who logs in during the first season. Eight new maps will also be packed into Overwatch 2, and new heroes and maps will arrive every nine weeks after launch. The game's new co-op mode won't be ready until next year, however.
We'll get to work on a PS5 review of Overwatch 2 in the coming days, but until then, share your first impressions in the comments below.

I'll play a little bit of it. Haven't played the first game in years but enjoyed the gameplay and it's free, whatever.
lol no thanks
I might try it but I understand this requires good cooperation within a team and I got no team
(also, I haven't played a competitive shooter in ages)
I remember I tried the original in a beta or demo form way back. Definitely not my thing but good for folks interested.
I'll wait for a price drop, seems too pricey right now.
I'm good, thanks. Some of the new changes for the game don't really convince me to go back. I'll wait for gundam evolution instead.
Never played Overwatch as when it originally released i was moving all year between houses and flats so MP games were a no no. Might as well jump if its F2P and see what the fuss is about.
Used to be way into Overwatch. Between the insanely toxic community who’re massively homophobic despite half the cast being gay, Activision-Blizzard being union-busting, abusive nutters and the game moving towards a battle pass nonsense system with paid characters, I’m out.
Used to love Overwatch when it first dropped, so much fun and people actually played the game mode rather than going for kills.
But gradually you’d just have insane losing streaks cause nobody would play the objective and it got very tiring.
How does the “I’ve played Overwatch 1 and don’t want to unlock everyone again” thing work? I played a ton on PC, but never on PlayStation and I’d like to be primarily on PS going forward.
I realize I was on another thread saying how much I like to unlock things. I may be having second thoughts 😅
Wasn't the Co-Op the main point of the sequel? A year out? Yeeeah that's going the Halo infinite route then.
It may be out but seems very few people (including me) have been able to get on a server since it went live.
Shame…was looking forward to that this evening.
Hopefully tomorrow
Was just doing the tutorial & got disconnected from the server now it's put me back in the queue with 30000 players ahead of me feels like they should be paying me to try their game for them 😂
of course there’s server issues ,
of ***** course , what the ***** is even the point of betas these days , for real . they’re just glorified demos , because they don’t test and fix ***** . they never do . goddamn .
@Shstrick Overwatch 2 has cross-progression! You should be able to carry over any unlocks from the PC version of Overwatch 1 into the Playstation version of Overwatch 2.
It's under a ddos attack or whatever apparently. I still got a match in, was pretty fun
Sucks that it's getting DDOS'd. I was hoping to play a little today.
Is anyone having issues with overwatch 1? It won't boot up
@GKT that’s hilarious
@Sequel you have a better chance of trying to play what we have now than ever playing overwatch 1 again …
@Sequel You can’t play the first game anymore.
This has been disastrous launch for this game. The servers can't handle the player base and most people including myself seem to have lost all our progress and cosmetics which for me was over 2500 hours in the game. They made mention of account merging but didn't warn anyone that it had to be done before they shut down the original servers. Now all that content is lost. I may be done with Blizzard for how they've handled this.
@nessisonett Exactly this. I was huge into it but got tired of hearing all the toxic and bigotted language. I heard they fixed it since then but it left SUCH a bad taste in my mouth that it's a no.
@Stevey_Mac Yep, I lost everything. All my skins, heroes, career profile. ****ing everything. Blizzard needs to work this out somehow, a lot of people paid for content as well.
@Constable_What @Stevey_Mac Jeeeezzz, my younger brother was going to check it out even if I wasn’t fussed but he’ll be gutted that all our thousands of hours worth of content in Overwatch 1 is gone. Had no idea you had to migrate the data before the servers went down for the original game.
@nessisonett Yea I actually think the whole thing is absolutely scandalous from Blizzard. Even if I had known about it I was working all day on Monday and wasn’t home before servers went down. They will have to sort this out or me and many others may just abandon the game altogether. I mean they have just taken away 1000s of hours worth of content people have paid for in certain cases, unfathomable how bad they have handled this migration.
@nessisonett I'm pretty sad and mad. I'm hoping that it's just the servers not able to process all that data (COPIUM). Tell your brother to wait a bit before logging in, and maybe that'll help? I had everything during the beta, so I am not sure why I lost EVERYTHING. I put in a ticket to support after a few minutes of navigating Blizzard's truly terrible support site.
I won't be playing until they finally add a single player story campaign.
