As has become a monthly tradition, Sony mucked up the PS Plus reveal for October 2022. Many had questioned why PS Plus Premium additions Limbo and Ultra Street Fighter IV were only being offered with cloud streaming on the PS3, when there are perfectly competent PS4 versions available that run natively on Sony’s last-gen console and PS5.
Well, it’s since quietly updated the PS Blog post, confirming that it’ll actually be offering the PS4 versions of the aforementioned games. It doesn’t necessarily explain why they’re restricted to the top tier of Sony’s subscription – we’ve already hypothesised on how we believe the platform holder’s making things up as it goes along – but at least we now know these two titles will be downloadable, and playable without any of the usual bottlenecks that come with cloud streaming.

We are potentially witnessing PlayStation’s weakest year.
Sony has to mess up every month with PS Plus, right?
Instead of asking the same tired questions regarding live service, mobile in PlayStation exec interviews, someone needs to ask Hermen Hulst and co. on what tf they intend on doing with the premium tier. What a ***** show and we are only 4 months into the new revamp.
I'm beginning to wonder if rather than going to school, my 5 year old nephew is actually in charge of running Sony.
Maybe they should just replace the whole Marketing and Blog Team lol
This is just a symptom of a SIE which is driven by Microsoft and not driving actively -> bad strategy
oh man! grabs popcorn 🍿🍿🍿
When did Liz Truss start running Sony?
They should just rename the PS5 as PS3 two.
Sony’s marketing truly is abysmal. A far cry from the ps1/2 days.
@jrt87
I was with you until you called PSVR2 a gimmick. It is the saviour of this gen and the only thing of true wonder that any of the main players are doing. If it wasn’t for VR I’d have dropped Sony during the 2018-onwards censorship fiasco.
You guys really like to moan about things if u not happy unsub no one forcing u have other two tiers of plus
@jimbouk Personally this culture of talking solely to industry news outlets like gameindsustry.biz or whatever its called needs to stop, and they need to go back to communicating with their customers instead. Its like they have a superiority complex at the moment.
And you are quite right, someone sat in front of Hermen or Jim needs to ask why their PR and comms have been so poor this gen rather than asking the usual non questions

Are we getting angsty about typos now?
@itsfoz Clearly you don't know about or have forgotten the years 2007/2008. That was grade A clown show Sony.
@Rob_230 Actually gamesindustry.biz is one of very few sites that actually do proper reporting on games and don't focus on fanboyism like ign, GameSpot etc.
Yep someone needs to ask the suits about their horrible communication strategy, classic games rollout, Japan Studio closure etc. Sound like no one cares about these issues other than a select few.
@itsfoz They released Horizon: Forbidden West, Gran Tourismo 7 and The Last Of Us Part 1 with God Of War Ragnarök still to come and they acquired Bungie. Far from weak 😂
Trrrrrrrrrriggered!!!!
@Rob_230 You know that those questions are pre-approved so Sony chosses which questions they will answer?
@Pat_trick Naah, the PS3 had plenty of games out 2 years after its launch...
@Smash41 @itsfoz Don’t forget Stray and Rollerdrome. The exclusives this year have been strong for the console and that’s not even including multiplatform games that have made the year even better, such as Elden Ring. 2022 has been a relatively good year for games, even as gaming PR has fallen into absolute muck.
Is the Premium tier the backwards compatibility tier or is it the premium tier? Sony can put anything they want on it for premium subscribers only, no?
The title of this article doesn't really match how minor an issue this is.
Sony messing these up monthly is actually great. Like it's not a big deal, but still enough to chuckle about.
@sanderson72 You're absolutely right.
You just made me realize the PS5 is actually worse than the PS3.
My comment wasn’t actually off-topic. It was a play on Britney song titles (you know, like the one you used in the sub header). Clearly no Britney fans at Push Square towers but ok 🙄
Who could had predicted this program would be a bigger convoluted mess than the PS4>PS5 upgrade program?
All this seems to have started since Jim Ryan and Hermen Hulst took over. Damn how I wish Shuhei had one of those posts >.<
I really don't understand the tier system.
They said premium would be classic games and trials, yet we are now getting psr games locked behind it. They just don't make any sense and still we are here with hardly any classic games.
Oh dear. A blog post got a few formats wrong...
They must be evil, i should immediately destroy any Sony gear I own, repent to god, etc etc zzzzzzzzzzz.
Such a shame this site has attractted such vile people who use any excuse to post hate, but thats what gets hits sigh...
They've cocked up a lot of things lately. Balls to Sony!
I miss the days when you actually purchased games yourself, instead of wait for a monthly drip feed of random old games you've already got. The only people who benefit from these services are people that don't actually buy games very much at all, leaving your most loyal hardcore fans wondering why they even bother subscribing in the first place
I fail to see the big deal here. I understand in this day and age we always need things to be mad about but this is such a minor thing.
Cheers.
Oh Sony, you've dropped the ball hard this year, so much so that it seems a large portion of the fanbase has only resorting to rhetoric about how Game Pass and Microsoft in general will signal the end of gaming, and that gamers will be sorry that subscription gaming ever became a thing.
Well, regardless of all that, there's several thousand top tier PS Plus subscribers lamenting that they have subscription gaming anyway... 😂
@jrt87 I totally agree. I've owned basically every model of PlayStation, home console and portable except maybe the PSP Street/Go, and it's genuinely stunning how much they've fumbled under Jimmy R's sterling leadership. Fanboys know it too, which is why on sites like Eurogamer they're so quick to attack anything Xbox. Certainly is making Phil Spencer look like a Saint in comparison isn't he?
Well said, anyway.
@thefourfoldroot1 PSVR2 is
"saviour of this gen" ? I think not.
The original PSVR was bought by less than 5% of PS4 owners, making it a slightly successful niche product at best, and I doubt the uptake will be that much better this time around. If anything it'll be an even smaller percentage of PS5 owners getting one for various reasons.
The fact is, for all the devotees crowing about how awesome it is, for most people (myself included having tried a bunch of VR games) it's a fun novelty and that's about it. Folks don't want the hassle of setup and a bulky headset to worry about.
In time, VR will be relegated to the same "defunct peripherals" catagory as the Wiimote, Kinect and Move. All things that the Big Three have long since moved on and consigned to history.
@zekepliskin
Maybe I didn’t phrase it correctly. For me, a soon to be 40 year old man, who has grown tired of the same old pancake games and doesn’t want to deal with idiot children online, PSVR2 is the saviour of this gen.
For people afraid to look geeky; for people who suffer from bad motion sickness; for youngsters for whom the same old stuff is new, or who use gaming as a social hang out; for those who only play 3-4 games before giving up on the whole thing thinking they know it all; yeah, it’s not a big thing right now.
@thefourfoldroot1 Yeah I'm old too, 38 here. Don't get me wrong I'm not slagging off people who like it - I enjoyed the hours I spent playing some modest games in VR - but I don't think it leaves a lasting enough impression for most people to be worth the hassle. After my friend demoed some of his favourites to me and I said "That's neat" I found I paid it no mind for weeks afterwards.
I don't want to deal with idiot children online (and sadly they're not always children even though they act like it!) either but there's still plenty of decent single player only experiences to be had that don't require a bulky headset to be strapped to your cranium.
For me it was combination of not being wowed enough plus the fact it makes second screen use essentially impossible. Bit hard to check your phone when you're wearing a VR headset, and as someone who does buy/sell goods trading a lot, not responding fast is a good way to lose a sale, whereas with the regular TV/gamepad setup you can pause and unpause easily without having to remove a headset or peek below it while trying to avoid motion sickness etc. Personal preference.
@zekepliskin
See, for me, Astro Bot rescue mission is the most wonder I’ve felt playing videogames since Mario 64. Resi7 the scariest gaming experience ever. Flight and racing games immeasurably better. It’s just doesn’t compare to flat games. Maybe you just didn’t play the best ones. May I ask what you tried?
Of course it’s a bit less convenient for second screen. Although PSVR2 has high def video passthrough, it is black and white.
@jrt87 I'm still holding out for holograms but even then it'll probably end up being a novelty. The 2D window that is TV has persisted for a long time because it's a format that works, tried and true.
3DTV failed for similar reasons that VR won't ever break the mainstream - it requires extra headgear people don't want to wear, motion sickness is a thing, novelty wears off quickly etc. I remember all the people justifying their 3DTV purchases by saying them and the missus would sit there watching everything in 3D, even soap operas, and I was like "yeah that'll last" lol.
@itsfoz 2006 happened btw.
@thefourfoldroot1 well that’s probably because you’ve been gaming for over 30 years that you feel that way . nobody really cares about VR , it’s not appealing and is just an unnecessary gimmick to a lot of people , simple . VR was around before motion controls when you were a youngster and nobody cared then.
@Orpheus79V nothing beats 2020 , the world even stopped functioning
@nomither6
No problem man. The new COD is coming out soon and you just had FIFA hit right? Enjoy.
@thefourfoldroot1 and enjoy your small obscure “library” of VR games . how many top games are VR ? oh right . wisdom doesn’t favor age , you still gotta earn it but i digress .
@nomither6
I’ll enjoy them very much thank you. When you get older you’ll learn that following the crowd doesn’t make for an interesting game (or person). “Obscure” and popular are not ranked as you think they.
@jimbouk I agree I signed up for PS1,PS2, psp, vita and Ps3 games, but so far not much other than what they already had. And streaming sucks and uses all my monthly bandwith. And trails I already had just about everyone they put up that looked good preordered. Its nice but I was thinking they might put them up a little before release. But if they don't do something pretty soon Im probably dropping it because the mid teir I have almost all them games, and only downloaded a few out of 8 years of the 2 free a months ones.
@nomither6 I agree there I remember in the 80's they had this big mike tyson punch out vr set up and it was fun but you wouldn't want a rig like that in your house even though graphics have come a long way. Wearing the headset on my psvr its a headache, eyes start crossing, the motion controllers don't always move and pan the right way. And just a small library and they all moved on and for the price its kind of a disapointment, and now the 2nd gen is already here and it will probably recieve the vita treatment too in yr or so. Its just hard to beat the good old tv. And once they can't get high sales the devs stop producing.
@zekepliskin I hate anything online anyways but you add a headset to it, lol I don't need stress like that.
@pip_muzz Pretty close in SOA and the Europe side of things, and the Japanese are just to nice to say anything until they can them. The Clueless ceo's in charge here are lucky they have demand hiding their mistakes some.
@Netbean completely incorrect lmao, I own over 600 games I buy alot but there is plenty I wanted to buy or play and I've gotten great service out of premium. All of you on push Square clearly don't play shut or much at all. I can find plenty of games worth it. Premium I get every Gen and now don't even have to buy games anymore basically. Keep whining tho since that's all yall want to do
@zekepliskin which is why vr2 will be a hit you clearly don't know what your talking about, as I wanted vr2 to have no cords and be better it is exactly that! It's not gonna be a ton of cords to set it and big and bulky. Research
@SerJosh97 I find it funny you throw the word research at me while not realising I did look into this which is how I know less than 5% of PS4 owners had an original PSVR unit. When 95% of people don't have one then that's not a hit, it's niche, a word I already used to describe it. Reading
