Update: As predicted, Bandai Namco has released an English version of the announcement trailer for Sword Art Online: Last Recollection. You can watch it above.
Original Story: Bandai Namco's Sword Art Online series of action RPGs will continue in 2023. The next instalment will release on both PS5 and PS4, but all we have to go on right now is the above Japanese announcement trailer.
Titled Sword Art Online: Last Recollection, the game will chronicle "the final moments of the Underworld". The official description continues: "The gate separating the Human Empire and Dark Territory is about to open, and a war is about to begin." We imagine an English trailer and more information will be pushed out by Bandai Namco's Western arms this week.
Last Recollection is going to have a single-player story, but it'll also support four-player co-op. Hopefully it's better received the series' previous entry, Sword Art Online: Alicisation Lycoris. The 2020 title launched in a shoddy technical state, and its storytelling was, at times, a poorly paced mess. It was a shame, too, because prior instalments, like Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization and Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment were decent games.

Impressively fast turnaround. I enjoyed last one so I’ll probably give this a go.
Man... Why can't they take the time and put some actual effort into releasing actual good Sword Art game instead of shoveling out these half bake PS3 era looking games? They won't cause anime fans are fine with buying trash.
The games will never end as long as SAO keeps its popularity the games will never end. I hope they font ignore the VR potential to make a VRJRPG. even if the anime, light novels, and manga end the games will continue. I do want a game based on SAO Alternative Gun Gale Online because unlike SAO no one ever dies in real life in that game.
Shame that the Last Recollection leak didn't turn out to be a new Dot Hack game or a IMOQ remaster/remake.
I completely fell off with this anime/game series.
It became very much a harem and there was hardly any story.
Not really looking to go back. The games were very meh to boring.
