It's hard not to be hyped for Atomic Heart if you are a fan of the Bioshock franchise, as the upcoming immersive sim wears its influences proudly on its sleeve. And while the former's alt-history Soviet setting is worlds away from the nightmarish libertarian dystopia that is Rapture, it looks like there will be a lot to love in this new adventure.
As a part of IGN's First preview coverage, we got a bunch of new gameplay and, of course, impressions of the game itself, and we learned a lot about what lies in store for us when the game launches on this scribe's own birthday, 21st February.
Featuring a 20+ hour campaign, wildly imaginative enemy design, and the sort of retro-futurist tech that was previously the province of the Fallout series, all set in a semi-open world replete with cars, zip lines and innumerable hostile machines. Atomic Heart is shaping up to be much more than simply Bioshock in Russia, and we can't wait to get our hands on it.
What do you think of this latest look at Atomic Heart? Will you make time for this adventure during the stacked first half of 2023? Let us know in the comments section below.

This could be a real suprise hit!
Looks ok to me!
After it was revealed how badly they've been treating their staff I'm not excited for this anymore
I won't stop asking you all to boycott this game.
I sure hope its good. There aren't really all that many immersive sim type games out there apart from the Shocks, Thief games, Deus Ex's and Arkane's offerings...
@skaarj217
Why?
@Kuromiano really? You're asking why?
Okay, maybe you've missed it. Maybe you've missed what's going on in the world... I will re-post my message one more time.
...
It's so sad to see here all the people who "don't care if it's russian". By supporting russian developers, you support more war, more hostility, more killings. It's sad to see that Sony releases the game at all.
Full boycott the game for me. I am Ukrainian, yes. They are shelling our cities, killing, raping, torturing our people just because we don't like pseudo-communist ideas and just because we dare to have our own culture and history.
By buying this game you support genocide.
And yes, the average russian citizen are all in the wrong here, not only their government, because they all support this war.
You can at least not support the war by not buying this russian-made game. By not buying any russian-made stuff.
But it's so far away from UK and US, and it's easy to just don't care, right?
...
Or maybe you've missed something.
It looks almost like Singularity and Far Cry had a love child. I am okay with this.
@Choppaz
Why would you punish people who have absolutely nothing to do with what is going in Ukraine and are just trying to feed their families? Were you boycotting American video games when our military was committing atrocities in the Middle East post 9/11? Probably not.
@skaarj217 I have great respect for people who have compassion for Ukraine, but I have absolutely no sympathy for statements that are completely directed against an entire nation. As well as your comments about whoever asked "why" would have no idea what was going on in the world. Also like people from the UK and USA don't care what's going on. Your arrogant manner does not get us any further here and generates even more hostility. So stop posting that every Russian programmer as if they are a supporter of WAR. Political discussions don't belong here either. Pushsquare reported on the game and is looking forward to the game. Just like some here.
@skaarj217 wait so every single person in Russia is responsible for the war?
Really liking the enemy and world design, can't wait to get my hands on it.
@skaarj217 I do respect the idea of supporting Ukraine for sure but this perspective that you're sharing here is just ridiculous and extremely shallow. I assume that you've already walked through your entire apartment or home or wherever you live and taken everything that's made from China which is pretty much 99% of all consumer goods on the market and thrown them away right... and you don't buy anything unless it's ethically vetted, made by yourself or somewhere locally? I assume your clothes are just all handspun by yourself or friends? Because news flash those are all produced by oppressed people
Enslaved by the hands of Nations that prioritize themselves Above All Else.
To suggest that everything Russian including a video game should somehow be shunned in boycott is truly insane. Especially considered in this specific situation, which is horrible don't get me wrong, a lot of Russians are against it.... a lot of people being forced into their military are defecting or speaking out and people have literally left that country because of what's going on.
Unless you are completely All In on boycotting all that is produced via oppressive nations, then you honestly are just being a really shallow hypocrite here
@KundaliniRising333 the man said he is Ukranian. Have a heart. Talk about shallow- I've rarely seen a more embarrassingly tone deaf diatribe on the Internet than what you have written here.
I have it on my wishlist, but not excited to buy it day one etc.
