Seasoned composer Sarah Schachner will no longer be involved with the recently released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, leaving fans to wonder about the status of the game's soundtrack.
As reported by Variety, Schachner cited “challenges in the working dynamic with the game’s audio director” as the reasons for her departure. While not named by Schachner in the statement she released on Twitter, Stephen Miller is listed as the audio director on Modern Warfare 2.
Elaborating on the reason for her departure, Schachner explains that "over the past couple of months, the working dynamic with the audio director has become increasingly challenging, and I don't see any path forward. As of now, I am unsure of the status and release plan for the soundtrack as it's been taken out of my hands.”
It seems that differences of opinion regarding the final master of the Modern Warfare 2 soundtrack lie at the heart of the split, as Schachner notes that "what will be released on the soundtrack is not my artistic intent in regards to mixing and mastering”.
Schachner has been working on the Call of Duty franchise ever since she was brought in to help score 2011's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. She is responsible for some very recognisable themes, including Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, Anthem, and Far Cry 3, amongst many more. A soundtrack has been released alongside every major Call of Duty game, and Modern Warfare 2's own will be the 20th such release by our count.

this generic game has a soundtrack?! 😲😲😲
Who cares about COD soundtracks? Her parents maybe.
The rudeness in the comments is proof that when you're on top everyone tries to throw you off.
Stay classy.
@Constable_What So nobody is allowed to have an opinion that differs to yours? Everyone's opinion has to be nice and fluffy and not critical of anything. Grow up.
Always hard to read these without hearing all sides. As many lawyers have said:
What I do know it that on a giant project like COD the process is usually far more collaborative and you lose some of your artistic control. As a creative that can be difficult. Seems Sarah wasn't happy with the amount of that. Can't read much more into it from just one side of the argument, but always a shame to see working relationships break down, and publicly.
I loved the Valhalla theme tune. It’s one of the only video game songs I’ve ever listened to outside of the game
@__jamiie Like I said, stay classy. If being rude for no reason is your idea of grown up, I'll stick to your definition of childish.
Thank you very much.

@__jamiie so, was that an opinion? I read your first comment more as a question for which you also was so kind as to provide an aswer... of sorts.
@themightyant What other side of the argument do you want from the artist she is not happy with it and thats what she said.
I think we as the public do have the right to say what she thinks about the work. She has the full right to distance from the score if she does not like it.
@__jamiie I think you are a little rude you make a comment about what she and music is a massive part of a game.
@Flaming_Kaiser Distancing herself from the work sure, no problem.
But she's also finger pointing publicly, specifically singling out the audio director, and the insinuation is that he is to blame for a lesser work. That is where we shouldn't take what she has said verbatim. See Hellena Taylor as recent example. Every story has many sides.
@themightyant You have to go that route and make everyone the same as that lady but we always need more defenders of big corp.
She only said its not my vision I didn't have the same vision as the director and why can't she say that?
I was so happy to read she left over creative differences and not sexual harassment or something and then I started reading the comments and 😫
"Bros before hoes" isn't so much about the brotherhood as the hate.😝
@Flaming_Kaiser She 100% can, I never said otherwise, but she is also being accusatory, specifically singling out a colleague publicly and in doing so throwing shade at the project. Had she wanted to Sarah could have easily said she left over creative differences without throwing anyone under the bus, it just comes across as bitter and unprofessional.
This has nothing to do with being a "defender of big corp", just common sense not to take only one side of a story as gospel truth, she's hardly impartial.
@huyi
Yes it does.
Unfortunately the series will never recapture the musical genius of the Black Ops 2 soundtrack.
But I will say that MWII isn’t a bad soundtrack. It’s just not memorable.
Doesn’t everyone disable the music?
@themightyant Dont worry he won't lose any sleep over it. She just stated the truth she could not work with him and and thats why she left.
If you cant go to work with fun and you cant make your own vision then it's totally fine to say something like that but thats me.
