Samurai Maiden is an upcoming action game in which a modern-day schoolgirl is transported back in time to the Sengoku period of Japanese history, forced to use her kendo skills to fight against an undead Oda Nobunaga and an army of skeletal samurai. It's just about the most anime thing ever, and we think it could be a good bit of hack'n' slash fun when it launches on PS5 and PS4 on 1st December.
Protagonist Tsumugi Tamaori is joined by a colourful cast of shinobi friends who each bring something unique to the table. Iyo is a stalwart companion who uses explosive kunai to deal devastating AOE damage, Hagane is able to use her mechanical arm to pin enemies in place, and Kommimi is equally adept at casting onmyoji magic as she is at wielding her massive hammer.
What do you think of this extended look at Samurai Maiden gameplay? is this one you will be picking up or passing on? Begin your training in the comments section below.

Looks ok. Not much to get excited about visually unfortunately. Just very slight and brief flashes of magic.
Is this not coming out on the 8th December rather than the 1st?
I don;t say this often, but day one for me. This is right up my street.
Looks really cool, will buy if no news about censorship
@KaijuKaiser
Are we watching the same video? These women definitely do not look underage. Not in the slightest. I think they actually specifically tailored the visuals exactly for people in our situation; for example, doing their best to ensure the fabric of the skirt lacks realism to avoid “embarrassment”.
@KaijuKaiser
But I thought we were referring to this game.
@KaijuKaiser
Except that I’m saying it clearly isn’t. Not trying to be difficult. You are just saying this is sexualising young girls when it clearly isn’t. These are, somewhat blatantly in fact, adult women. Now, whether that’s still embarrassing for you in front of your wife is a different matter of course, but I don’t see much sexualisation really. In fact, sex appeal is much toned down to what has been available in the past.
@KaijuKaiser
Fair enough. I happen to not think it’s sexualising them really, compared to the past it’s much toned down. And, yes, I have no problem saying I find that unfortunate. But also find it amusing when people say any Japanese animation type game has their female characters look childish no matter the clearly protruding evidence to the contrary.
@thefourfoldroot1 it does say "modern day school girl" who gets transported back in time...
So is she college or high school
Regardless I do believe late teens is what's being portrayed here
@Jbuggydroid
Every other site I’ve seen says “young woman”. All you need to do is google the game’s name. The schoolgirl thing is just an inference this site made I think.
@KaijuKaiser
Graduation from high school in Japan is 18. I defy anyone to look at these women and consider them underage girls. I know there is a problem with this in some games, with girls who clearly appear pre-pubescent, but this is just not one of those games, so let’s not all have some knee-jerk reaction.
The game looks excellent and day 1 buy for me. Games with such protagonists are my favourite games.
Game is clearly made by a Japanese developer for certain audience. If you don't like the game or have problems with it - just don't buy it.
I didn't buy Horizon Forbidden West because I didn't like Aloy.
Simple.
What the hell is this and why didn't I know about it before?!
This is my kind of game!
Looks fun but launches too close to the Crisis Core re-release. Have to make a choice and it's a pretty easy one since CC is my favorite Final Fantasy game and one of my top 5 from the PSP.
@KaijuKaiser so you don't want to play this because you live with a wife and child. Hypothetically, would you be interested in playing this, if you didn't have them living with you?
I think the game looks akin to Dynasty Warriors. A fun diversion of life. I'll probably pick it up on sale down the road.
@KaijuKaiser You want sexualised, checkout Nights of Azure or Blue Reflection. This is a low budget D3 game, that lost all its great content years ago.
