Will God of War Ragnarok get an expansion? According to game director Eric Williams, it's probably not happening. On Kinda Funny Games' spoilercast for the newly released PS5 and PS4 blockbuster, Williams is asked about potential DLC, and he replies: "I dunno man, [God of War Ragnarok] is big. I think we put everything we had into it, so I wouldn't count on it."
And he's not wrong — Ragnarok presents a shockingly robust adventure, both in terms of scope and runtime. As much as we'd like to play even more of the Norse saga, we can certainly appreciate what Williams is saying.
Still, we suppose Williams isn't outright denying that DLC could happen. After all, Sony seems to enjoy building on its PlayStation Studios titles with paid expansions. Recent examples include the likes of Ghost of Tsushima, and Horizon Zero Dawn got The Frozen Wilds back on PS4.
Or maybe Santa Monica Studio will grace us with a smaller scale post-Ragnarok project, like Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. We'll obviously have to wait and see, but at least for now, it sounds like the developer doesn't have any plans.

Wouldn't mind a stand alone loki game
Imagine that. You buy a game and get a full game.
I do hope it won't get any. Not all games need DLC.
I'm in an area in the game just now that feels like a game in itself. Sidequests are awesome but I really can't wait to see where the story goes now that I've reached a certain point!
Thats really great to hear a complete game now one with only a small patch needed or even better no patch and its perfect to run it without mayor issues.
@Flaming_Kaiser once it has photo mode it will be perfection.
Unfortunately, really unfortunate because it did leave us with some questions and we won't see the next franchise in maybe 5 yrs or heck even 6.
@MightyDemon82 I have not bought it yet I just don't have the time now I just bought Rachet and Clank for 39,99 and Death Stranding for 19,99 oh and the Nioh Collection for 39,99 or 29,99 I don't remember. 😆
I have no time to play more.
@Flaming_Kaiser they will keep you busy, I enjoyed R&C and Death Stranding, the Nioh games are still in the backlog. Have fun!
I don't want to post spoilers but there is a huge unresolved thing lol
Reckon there's a potentially fun PSVR2 puzzle/target mini-games spin-off with the weapons types used in the game, though not sure how Santa Monica would fit that into the lore unless they are like Muspelheim challenges.
Good for them. I was telling my nephew about a time where console games and mobile games used to just be full games with nothing else attached. Now games have dlcs, active services, battle passes etc. And mobile games are just ads with a small game attached. Nice to see that they made an incredible game and are going to leave it at that.
I’ve only just begun my Ragnorok journey but if there IS a big cliff hanger, it definitely wouldn’t be resolved with DLC.. I’m one of those people that once the ‘movie/game’ rolls the credits - I’m done with it completely.. I’ve bought more DLC than I’d like to admit in the past that I never ended up playing because you have to beat the game first.. Horizon Zero Dawn actually let me play the DLC before I did the last main mission so that was one of the rare exceptions
I really hope there's not going to be any DLC as I didn't enjoy the game enough to be excited to jump in again just to experience the continuation of the story.
Hopefully they don't change their minds 🤞DLC for story heavy games usually doesn't advance anything foward and is there just to waste our time on meaningless stuff and telling us about something that happened midway into the game.
Game is pretty long as is and it has several side quests so no need for DLC
I’d like to see a horde mode for this game. Perhaps even Co op with supporting characters
Would potential like to see a smaller scale atreus spin off where he is adult to rap up that story line but apart from that happy to not seen anything from the GOW franchise for a while now. Without spoilers the story ends In a great place for the franchise and would be nice to see the studio work on other new IPs and come back to the franchise later.
My first thought after finishing the game was ,’I hope there’s dlc in the near future’. But even without dlc this game is a complete and fully satisfying sequel. One of (if not the only) sequels in the last 5 years that didn’t disappoint in any way. When you compare it with something like Horizon Forbidden West, which was a good but completely forgettable sequel with nothing interesting to say. Or Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, which was good but far too short. God of War Ragnarok delivered in every way I hoped and actually exceeded my expectations. Please Santa Monica, can I have some more?
Very good. all i need is new game+
@MightyDemon82 Thanks.
Everyone who tells me there is nothing to play is nuts. 🤣
new game + incoming?
@johnny30 I agree and Ragnarok jusifies that it could work very well.
I doubt it, since we never got story DLC for the first game.
