Overwatch 2 was always going to be a big game, what with the legion of dedicated fans of the original Overwatch diving in and the floodgates being opened by the free-to-play nature of the sequel. Sure enough, Activision Blizzard has announced some pretty spectacular numbers, revealing that more than 35 million players have jumped into the game in the month since servers went live.
The news comes to us by way of Activision Blizzard's third-quarter financial results, where the publisher noted that "over 35 million people played the game in its first month, including many who were new to Overwatch. The expanded community is engaging deeply, with average daily player numbers for the first month of Overwatch 2 more than double that of its acclaimed predecessor."
What's more, Activision Blizzard reports that "player investment is also off to a strong start, positioning the title to be a meaningful contributor to Blizzard‘s business in the fourth quarter." In addition, a new hero named Rammatra will be coming to the game on 6th December, alongside the launch of Season 2, which is likely to draw in yet more players.
Are you one among the many currently playing Overwatch 2? How are you enjoying the experience? Let us know in the comments section below.

I am one of those 35M players. I installed the game because they said I would get access to all the heroes since I owned the first Overwatch game, otherwise, I wasn't going to bother until the campaign was released. I played a few matches and realized Overwatch 2 is just Overwatch 1.5 without the campaign and haven't touched it since.
Imagine how many it would’ve got if it were any good.
Also, for all the God of War Ragnarok just ‘looks like dlc’ comments this year, quite strange that this managed to avoid so much of that in the build up to its release… maybe as it’d be available everywhere so can’t be weaponised for any console war amateur-shamatics 🤔
@colonelkilgore What do you mean? Literally everyone has been calling overwatch 2... Overwatch 1 DLC or Overwatch 1.5.
The only difference is Blizzard isn't charging anyone $70 to play it...
@colonelkilgore everyone has been calling Overwatch dlc, since it was announced
I played a bit the first month and then dumped it for MW2.
Not looking back. Much much too team oriented, and I love to leave casual matches. I mean, it's probably for the best, I'm too old to stop rage quiting.
Im one of those. I played three matches and haven’t touched it since. I really don’t like their monetization system.
This game sure died fast lol.
@Sakai @AverageGamer guess I haven’t spoke to anyone in the last year… sounds about right actually 🤔
It's fun and free so end of story and drama.
I never played OW1 but I find it pretty fun. Haven’t spent a cent on it. I get a slight bit of nostalgic WoW pvp vibe without the commitment.
Once they dropped the phone requirement I picked it up and I'm enjoying the new heroes more than I thought I would.
As a competitive shooter junkie, i am loving Overwatch 2. It was never labeled from Blizzard as a full new experience and just a rebalance of gameplay from the first. To me the matches are more fun with 5 VS 5, and there is lots of team play involved to win. I bought the battle pass just to support the game and it’s cost. But you don’t have to to have fun with it. For me it’s a solid 9 and i don’t see myself jumping back to halo Infinite or Call of Duty anytime soon.
