Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is currently the tenth best-selling game on Steam after a peak of more than 13,500 PC users played the game at any one time during its opening weekend. This marks a huge improvement over Sony's previous PC release Sackboy: A Big Adventure, which could only pull in 610 players during its release. And three weeks later, the game still hasn't pulled in more users than that at any one time.
The latest stats make Miles Morales the third most popular PC release from Sony in 2022, behind God of War and Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered. It just managed to beat the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection by a few thousand users.
As of 21st November 2022, Sony's PC ports have recorded the following highest concurrent number of players:
- God of War — 73,529 (10 months ago)
- Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered — 66,436 (three months ago)
- Horizon Zero Dawn — 56,557 (two years ago)
- Days Gone — 27,450 (two years ago)
- Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales — 13,539 (two days ago)
- Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection — 10,851 (29 days ago)
- Sackboy: A Big Adventure — 610 (22 days ago)
Looking ahead, The Last of Us: Part I will be making its way to the personal computer, and a Returnal PC port is a certainty. Did you play Miles Morales on PC this past weekend? Post your impressions in the comments below.

The last of us part 1 is coming to PC. It was announced just no date
I hope they try a day 1 release at some point. Maybe they will get even more sales because of the hype.
Even if they don't, having a version of the game that will still be looking great and playable in 10 years without needing to pay 70 bucks for a 'completely necessary' remake is great for every gamer!
@B-I-G-DEVIL You're right, I completely forgot about that.
@Hindenburg No! While i'm all for making games available to more players eventually, exclusives absolutely have their place at driving sales of console platforms. It's what keeps Sony's dominant market position which in turn keeps their first party releases so strong. They would be shooting themselves in the foot but bleeding out over time. A year or so later is fine.
@themightyant Is there a proof that people buy 500$ consoles that don't require any tech knowledge instead of $1000+ PCs that can run literally 99.9% of all software and thus games because they will play some games a year or so sooner?
That honestly sounds silly to me. Owning a PC as a gamer is the most bang for buck purchase you can make, but people are naturaly ignorant because they are not tech savvy.
@Hindenburg Jim Ryan seemed to suggest PC day 1 will happen with live service games.
@themightyant @Hindenburg
Things to bear in mind:
PS5 has sold around 25 million consoles. PS4 sold 117 million - 142 million total.
There are currently 1.7 billion (with a B) PC gamers.
PC is more than 10x bigger an audience than Sony’s console market.
Most PC games sell slow to begin but better over time whereas console games release with a bang and fizzle out over time (especially the COD’s and FIFA’s).
Many PC gamers are playing on weaker hardware than the current gen, but make do with lower graphics, mods or just playing older games until they get a better PC (hence the long term sales).
Conclusion: The PC market is massive compared to the console market. Just like the mobile market is. However, Sony can release the same games from Console to PC with little effort. They would be foolish to not to cash in on that huge market.
@Hindenburg No there isn't and there never will be, it's almost impossible to test, that doesn't mean it isn't true for a not insignificant number of gamers.
I know personally, and from discussions with fellow gamers over the decades, that it's exclusives that drive many of us towards choosing one platform over another. It's the main reason why I buy a PlayStation. If I can get all the PlayStation games Day 1 on PC why do I need a PlayStation in addition to a PC and an Xbox/Switch?
Yes you are right convenience is key, I prefer console gaming, but I suspect Steam might also enter the market again with a Steam Machine soon to complement the success of Steam Deck. Giving almost console like simplicity to PC gaming with a slew of benefits. Combo it with a Steam Deck to take all your games on the go and whatever Nintendo console there is and you would have every PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo game covered.
I can guarantee that more PC users pirated this game than purchased it legit.
I know first hand of some people who showed me how they downloaded pirated version on release day.
To those who say there are 2 billion PCs, 90% of those are work laptops that can't even play AAA games from 5 years ago.
@Kienda Those numbers are always deceptive. While yes there are an estimated 1.7 billion PC gamers that doesn't tell the whole story at all. PC gaming is not 10x bigger than console by almost every useful metric as that number includes a FAR higher percentage of ultra-casual almost-never-play, or spend, gamers.
See the 2022 report of global gaming share by analysts Newzoo:
Source: GamesIndustry.biz But this isn't new, this is old news: 2020
In most useful metrics it really isn't. Yes if you include every PC owner who's ever played Solitaire but that isn't representative. If it is so much bigger why collectively do they spend so much less? Answer: The metrics that really matter like revenue from paying customers isn't that much bigger, it's actually smaller.
100% agree. I didn't say they shouldn't cash in, they ABSOLUTELY should, I'm all for PS games on PC, never said otherwise, but I said they should wait, it should not be Day 1 except in exceptional cases.
@themightyant @Kienda A lot of gamers don't follow the news daily like we do so Sony day1 first party releases is still something that they are not aware of wanting. If it became clear that Ragnarok will launch for PC in November a lot more people on PC would have bought it and even upgraded their PCs with a new GPU just like people want PS5 instead of PS4.
I get console exclusivity, but PC is not a competitor to consoles and will never be. People are just not tech savvy and they never will be. If VR ever becomes a thing it would be due to accessibility and simplicity.
@Sil_Am Don't obsess over that 1b+ number. It really doesn't matter and no one cares for it. Also, the people who pirated the game weren't going to buy it anyway.
Actually, that's still pretty low. We'll see if they'll keep porting them.
Another sales flop.
As a PC gamer now I can say I have already double dipped on Days Gone and Detroit. I'm planning on double dipping on God of War, Horizon, Spider-man and Uncharted. All I'm waiting for is sales, discounts, price drops. People forget game prices on PC plummet shortly after launch. Soulsborne games are probably the only exception. Sackboy can already be bought 30-40% off on some sites.
@Hindenburg I've been in IT for 25 years. I've built my own PCs. My first gaming rig had a state-of-the-art CD-ROM so I could play the new Betrayal at Krondor CD-ROM game with a CD-quality soundtrack (that same disk is now signed by Raymond Feist, for those that care).
And I don't own a gaming rig today. A PS5 is way more bang for the buck than anything else I would put together. No need for anything with horsepower to browse the web, which is 99% of the non-game computing that 99% of people do these days, including me.
And yes, I chose a PS5 because of the games that I had and that were coming. I also picked up a Series S, which gathers dust - wouldn't have bothered if the trade-in of my old XBox didn't make it darn near free.
Neither compares to a $1k+ computer, sure, but all my bases are covered with little fuss. After troubleshooting servers and third-party software all day, I want simple and uncomplicated at home. I don't need to spend time figuring out which video card is the best bang for the buck, when they all cost more than my console - I just want to use an axe to break a few chests (for kills or for loot, depending on the type of chest).
@RobN You are not a tech savvy person. You don't realize just how much you can do with a pc. It's fine. Enjoy your consoles, but their value proposition is bad in comparison to pc which gives you access to 99% of all software ever made.
@Hindenburg Sure, I've made a living working with computers for 25+ years, but I don't know what a PC can do. Run with that - it's a good look, and doesn't make you look arrogant at all.
@RobN My aunt works with a computer, but she can't do anything besides using the company's internal software.
PC is not only the best platform, but also the best when it comes to bang for buck
@Hindenburg that's not IT. I imagine if you had to look at what he used on a daily basis you'd call him an alien and be absolutely bewildered at how to use a computer a on a higher technical level. or that someone knows how to read and troubleshoot that stuff.
@Hindenburg Excellent. My budget is $500. Spec me a new PC that can outperform a PS5, AND can play my UHD movie disks. Heck, you've got Black Friday deals coming, that should help. The SSD alone is going to be nearly a fifth of that budget, and a UHD drive is probably going to be more than a quarter. Good luck.
Oh, you can can do a lot better than a PS5 for $1k+, and likely even match it now (if not two years ago, when I bought mine) sub-$1k. But even then, I'll probably have to deal with Windows Updates, won't I? Meh.
You're trying to convince me it's cost-effective - it's not cost-effective to buy more than I need, and most people agree - or else the units sold of gaming computers would be higher than they are.
@Jaz007 Honestly, I use a web browser and terminal software (I prefer MobaXTerm, for those rare times I need to run XWindows apps remotely - Oracle installers are notorious for that) most of the time, so what I use isn't really that alien. What I do with it might be, and the things I ask for from other IT employees likely would be.
If his aunt worked where I work, then I'm the person the help desk would call if his aunt called for help with that "internal software," and they couldn't figure it out themselves.
Anyway, if this wasn't off-topic before, it sure is now. I'll drop it, unless he comes through with the $500 PC that can beat my PS5, because that would be interesting to see.
@RobN Think about what pc offers you. Access to 99% of software ever created. Connect it to any devices, connect any device like the dualsense into it, stream emulate or play natively the entire PS and nintendo llbraries, multitsasking, modding, playing any game in vr or in ultrawide etc, highter framerates, better tech like dlss, you won't have to buy games for a second time ever again, play classics like Deus Ex or new titles like Elden Ring, and I can go on and on and on
As for the price you can definitely build something solid for about ~1000 bucks. You mentioned that you own a series s so that makes the value proposition of a PC even better:
GPU 3060ti - $439.99
CPU 13600k - $300.00
MOBO ASUS Prime Z790M-Plus - $200.00
EVGA 600W 80 Plus Certified - $60.00
SAMSUNG 980 SSD 1TB - $110.00
CORSAIR Vengeance DDR5 32GB - $140.00
some case - $100
Final price for a brand new 13th gen pc is ~$1400 and you can save a lot of money if you go down to 12th gen and ddr4. It will still be much more capable than the console. And you can do EVERYTHING with it.
@Hindenburg FAIL.
Nearly 3x the price and I still can't play my UHD movies on disk.
You missed the word BUDGET. The GPU alone costs more than a diskless PS5.
And 99.99% of that "99% of software ever written" isn't stuff I want to run, anyway. As someone who once taught an intro to Visual Basic by having everyone build their own calculator, trust me when I say that volume isn't anything to brag about, at least when it comes to number of applications.
I'm not dissing anybody who chooses PC gaming - I did it once upon a time, and I won't rule out doing again (probably after I'm retired). But it's not for me these days - and it's not for many, many people for a variety of reasons. Heck, most people have more computer power in their phone than they need, and if it weren't for word processing they might not use a PC at all.
And the point - that people pick their consoles based on the exclusives for them - Microsoft wouldn't be spending billions to buy Activision if there wasn't some truth to that, and if you believe otherwise I have a good deal on a long bridge you might be interested in.
(PS - better deals on the SSD these days - you should be able to get a 1TB with heatsink under $100 - I was looking at a 2TB to replace my 1TB that was going to be around $170, but decided to save the money and shuffle games, instead)
It's actually a great success.
I can't possibly imagine why would you want to NOT have access to 99% of games and more flexibility in general. How much money will console gamers spend on ps plus and 70 dollars releases and rereleases of old games? It's really not that much cheaper. And let's not ignore that facts that the ps5 pro and ps6 will cause a lot of extra spending. Last Of Us Part 1 Remake Remastered.
I am pretty sure that Microsoft bought ABK just because they can and it will generate a lot of passive income for them. They can't possibly beat Switch and Playstation in console sales. They would actually prefer to allow those users to subscribe to gamepass without buying an XBOX
@Hindenburg Gave you three requirements. You got 1/3. That's a fail.
And if you think anyone spends billions "just because they can and it will generate a lot of passive revenue," you're a fool. Or Elon Musk. Some people would say I repeat myself, but with that I'm out.
Removed - flaming/arguing; user is banned
Two straight flops. No way that little influx of cash is worth it.
Now for Bloodborne and Demon Souls to hit PC.
Sony is literally picking the worst time to release these games. They should have waited till next year to release this. Most normal people haven't even finished the first one that release 3 months ago. On top of releasing in a super pack month with tons of other newer games
As much i like seeing psx exlusives come to pc i got to say Sony is dumb as hell with ports. Make those support studios work on making psp and vita titles for there ps plus(dont know the tiers),making ps3 emulation priority, optimizing PSN etc....
