A new trilogy of Witcher games is now in pre-production at developer CD Projekt Red, with the first entry currently known as Project Polaris. Now we know who will be helming the endeavour, with lead animator Sebastion Kalemba (who served in that capacity during the development of both The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077) taking up the mantle of game director.
Very little is known about the direction in which this new generation of Witcher games will go now that Geralt has hung up his swords for good. Fans want to believe that Ciri will feature as the new protagonist, but nothing has been confirmed as yet. The only solid lead we have to go on is the above image, depicting a medallion of the newly-minted Witcher School of the Lynx lying in the snow, which has been confirmed by CDPR.
Do you have high hopes for the next epic Witcher saga? What are your theories on the direction the series will go next? Take refuge from the howling winds in the comments section below.

Direction was massively important in W3, so hopefully this one can recapture that greatness.
And hopefully the game plays less stiff
If it’s not Geralt it’s not really the Witcher for me.
@Robinsad I mean judging by the ending, Ciri is most likely the case of being the next MC.
Please please please, let it NOT be norse or snow!!! Enough is enough.
@Robinsad
You know Geralt is not the main character in the Witcher right?
Since it's a new school involved and they have said it's a trilogy they want to get out within 6 years or so, it sounds like they are trying to do something like the Mass Effect trilogy where you create your character and your choices can heavily impact the events of 2 and 3.
Just a guess but it would interesting. Super ambitious too. Hope they can pull it off!
Don't know if I'm alone in this but I hope the protagonist doesn't turn out to be Ciri. As much as I liked her in The Witcher 3, I don't really want to play as a "chosen one" type character in a new Witcher game. I'd rather just be an ordinary, grounded Witcher who winds up knee-deep in some kind of spiralling story.
Maybe it'll be like Cyberpunk where we technically have a set character, but we can create them however we like. That would be interesting.
Wait, so they announced a game that is so early in pre-production that it didn't have a director? Have they learned absolutely nothing?
@Robinsad wow, that's narrow
@djlard Thank you!! Everyone knows the snow levels are the worst levels second only to water levels. Maybe we'll get underwater Witcher
@Korgon I'd be up for the Mass Effect style where you import your character across the trilogy. If they can keep the world interesting, I'll jump into the universe they create.
Way too early for these kind of announcements. More than a decade to get all three games completed.
@Korgon That would be fantastic, and I'm all for it.
@Korgon god yes please let this be a Mass Effect-esque situation. Having choices carry over would be awesome. I wish I played ME when it originally came out
@MrXinaThong That's fair, although who's part of the school of the cat?
Cool news, wake me up when the games have actually released.
@ShogunRok I love too play as Ciri she looks awsome.
